We will be known as an Indian company
Gopal Krishan Gupta, CEO, TBEA Energy,
speaks on his companys expansion plans
and focus areas.
Your parent company, TBEA Shenyang, is
one of the largest manufacturers of
transformers in China. Has your Indian
arm been able to leverage the strengths
of the Chinese parent to open up
opportunities in local markets?
TBEA has already captured 27 per cent of the Indian market of 765KV transformers, we
have successfully penetrated the Indian market through major central and state utilities
such as PGCIL, NTPC, GETCO, HVPNL and esteemed private customers like Andritz
Hydro Pvt Ltd. TBEA is also participating aggressively in many of state utilities tenders
such as MPPTCL, RRVPNL, APTRANSCO, BSPTCL and we are also participating in events
like ELECRAMA, GRIDTECH, and VIBRANT GUJARAT.
One common complaint across a number of Indian players has been over the
quality of Chinese equipment. How do you convince potential customers that TBEA
Energy comes out with equipment that meets global standards?
It is a common notion all over India, TBEA Energy (India) Pvt. Ltd. is having world class
manufacturing as well as testing facilities with highest manufacturing capacity of
20000MVA annually, the highest in India. We have also got approval from PGCIL for
manufacturing of new units of transformers & reactors up to 765kV. Various esteemed
customers from central utilities and state utilities and major private players have
already visited our Green Energy Park.
What are the advantages youll have through localisation?
We will be known as an Indian company. Through localisation, the Chinese factor will be
eliminated from the mindset of our customers. Also, once we start manufacturing the
products locally, our qualification will build up. Therefore, in another couple of years,
we will be qualified in almost all SEBs on our own name TBEA Energy (India) Pvt. Ltd.
How strong are your support functions (mainly sales and marketing) in India? Do
you plan to further beef up your support functions?
TBEA Energy (India) Pvt. Ltd already has its regional offices in all four major metro cities
across the country: Delhi (NCR), Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai with its Head office and
factory at Karjan, Vadodara, Gujarat. We are further expanding our reach by opening
offices at other major and important cities like Bengaluru, Lucknow, Chandigarh,
Hyderabad, Raipur, Bhopal and Jaipur.
Which are the product categories that you plan to focus upon?
TBEA is having the manufacturing capacity of:
Transformers: up to 765kV
