1.1 INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY
Organizational studies is the examination of how individuals construct
organizational structures, process and practices and how these, in shape social relations and
create institutions that ultimately influence people organizational studies comprise different areas
that deal with the different aspects of the organization.
As part of Master of Business Administration program, the researcher
conducted organizational study JJ orthodontics Ltd. Munippara. This will give a complete picture
about the organizations structure and departments of the organizations and also study each
department and functions. The researcher selected this topic to understand the well organized
managerial structure of the organization. So the study, regarding this topic is very crucial to
analyses the factors which contribute to the quality of orthodontics products as well as the factors
regarding the defects of organizational climate development of organizations.

1.2 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
To get a clear idea about the entire functioning of the organization, this study is very
important. This study provides an overall idea about the functioning of an organization. It helps

For the purpose of this study is analyzing the overall performance of JJ Orthodontics Pvt
Ltd. The investigator used primary data and secondary data. This data give us valuable
information about the companys performance.

Primary Data
Primary data are those data collected directly from the organization.
It is fresh information collected by the direct interaction with the workers and discussion
with the managers and other staff in the organization.

1.5 PERIODS OF STUDY
Organization study started at JJ Orthodontics Pvt. Ltd. On 3 rd June
2013. The company officials permitted to start my organization study by giving me the
information regarding the company profile. After that they send me to each department and to
make a interaction with the department heads. There are explained me about the functions,
responsibilities, duties and departmental plans. The schedule for the departments visit as, initially
the procurement and development department, then the production, marketing, finance, HR
likewise. Then I visited the plant and the production process of the products. My days of
organization study came to end by 3 rd July 2013. Mean while my visit they explained me with
regard to the production.

1.6 LIMITATIONS
Any study cannot be 100% accurate at all the times. This is because of the inherent
limitation that could be present in such a study. In my study limitations are:-
One of the most important limitations of this study is shortage of time.
Busy schedule of officers and employees is adversely affected the researcher.
As a human being the researcher has personal limitations.
Certain areas are restricted, so a detailed study is not possible.
The information provided by the company assumed to be authentic.
Some of the questions mostly contains multiple choices of questions hence the
response.

2.1 THE HISTORY OF DENTAL INDUSTRY
ANCIENT ORIGIN
Archaeological evidence of the dentistry of antiquity suggests that
treatment included medical methods of combating dental affections, mechanical means of
treatment such as retentive prosthesis and the art of applying artificial substitutes for lost dental
structures.
It is believed that the oldest civilization that knew something of density was
Egypt. The earliest indication of such knowledge is found in the Edwin Smith Surgical Papyrus.
It contains detailed directions for the treatment of wounds about the mouth, but no mention is of
restoring lost teeth resulting from these injuries. The hard issuesof the mouth were in general
considered untreatable. In closing his discussion on this topic one ancient Egyptian surgeon
advises One having a fracture of the mandible over which a wound has been inflicted and he
has fever from it, it is an ailment not be treated.
Providing prehistoric mans ingenuity, researchers have found that dental
drilling dates back 9000 years. Primitive dentists drilled merely perfect holes into teeth of live
patients between 5500 and 7000 B.C. Researchers recently carbon-dated at least nine skulls with
in 11 drills holes found in a grave-yard in Pakistan. This means dentistry is at least 4000 years
older than first thought.

Researchers figured that a small bow was used to drive the flint drill tips into patients teeth.
Flint drills heads were found on site. This dental drilling probably evolved from intricate
ornamental bed drilling.
The drilled teeth found in the graveyard were hard to reach molars.
Although it is secular that drilling could have been decorate or to release evil spirits more than
frightening tooth decay, the hard-to-see location of the drilled teeth in jaws seem trouble out
drilling for decorative purpose. No sign of filling were found.
History of dentistry Oral disease has been a problem for humans from the beginning of
history. Skulls of Cro-Magnon peoples, who inhabited the earth 25,000 years ago, show evidence
of tooth decay.
The earliest recorded reference to oral disease in history of dentistry is from
an ancient (5000 B.C.) Sumerian text that describes, tooth worms as a cause of dental decay.
There is historical evidence that the Chinese used acupuncture around 2700 B.C. to treat pain
associated with tooth decay.
The history of dentistry dates back thousands of years to ancient civilizations.
Evidence of this history is available through archeological excavations. Archeologists have been
able to date dentistry as far back as 3000 B .C. One example of history of dentistry is found in
human skulls which include various forms of tooth replacement as well as other dental
procedures.
In addition to actual remains, scientists have discovered dental tools
such as forceps and dental picks. It is interesting when we realize that many of the designs of
these ancient artifacts are utilized in the instruments today. In many civilizations such as those of

the Chinese, the Egyptians, and the Greeks, there were designated healers who experimented in
the treatment of dental ailments.
The ancient Roman civilization is an excellent source for information
relating to the lifestyles of ancient times. We are fortunate to benefit from the writings of Roman
scientists and scholars, as it is from these works that we are able to learn from this civilization.
There was a scholar who lived about A.D. 30 named Celsius. He created a medical
documentation called On Medicine, which is considered to be one of the best medical works of
his time.
It is interesting to note that although his work has served as one of the
first medical texts, Celsus was not a physician. Celsus wrote in his book on several areas of
history of dentistry. One subject of interest to him was in the induction of sleep for patients who
suffered from toothaches.
He also wrote quite a bit on the treatment to aid in the resolution of pain
from dental abscesses. The writing of Celsus also contained documentation regarding the first
recognized cases of orthodontic treatment in history of dentistry. This was accomplished through
the use of appliances and finger pressure.
Arabian physicians attached great importance to clean teeth. They described
various procedures to scrape the teeth and designed sets of specialized instruments to
accomplish that task. The Arabians in history of dentistry used a toothbrush, a small polishing
stick that was beaten and softened at one end, applied mouthwashes and dentifrice powders.
Dentistry in the middle ages The Middle Ages, for the most part, was a time of stagnation as
far as dental history is concerned. Medical advancements as a whole seemed to come to a

complete standstill. Dental advances during this time were almost absent, with a few noted
exceptions. This dry spell continued until the days of the Renaissance.
Though the advances were limited in dentistry in the middle ages,
there were some notable discoveries during the Middle Ages. One of the most prominent was by
a physician named Scrap ion who lived during the tenth century. This physician, through his
research, accurately described the number of roots found in a particular tooth.
He also hypothesized correctly the reasoning behind why teeth contain
a different number of roots. It was his opinion that lower molars only required two roots due to
their strong jaw support. He also noted that, in contrast, upper molars required three roots as they
have less jaw support.
Another noted dental figure in the dentistry in the middle ages was
Abulcasis. He was a resident of Spain and lived between 1045 and 1120 A.D. He noted the
necessity of oral hygiene. He wrote many works on the subject of teeth cleaning.
These works included the importance of oral hygiene and the
consequences of not following it. Abulcasis also wrote a list of his opinion of the rules to be
followed for completing dental extractions in dentistry in the middle ages. This did, however,
include his opinion that any tooth extraction should only be done as a last resort.
Throughout the dentistry in the middle ages in Europe, physicians or
surgeons who would go to the patients home made dentistry available to wealthier individuals.
Decay would sometimes be removed from teeth with a dental drill, a metal rod that was rotated
between the palms. Soft filling materials provided short-term alleviation of discomfort by
keeping air from the open cavity.

Dentistry in the middle ages for poorer people took place in the
marketplace, where self -taught vagabonds would extract teeth for a small fee. From the Middle
Ages to the early 1700s much dental therapy was provided by so called barber surgeons. These
jacks-of-all-trades would not only extract teeth and perform minor surgery, but they also cut hair,
applied leeches for bleeding, and performed embalming.
Italian sources from the 1400s mention the use of gold leaf as dental
filling material in dentistry in the middle ages. Later, the French described the use of soft lead
fillings to repair teeth after decay was removed.
There is little documentation of any advances of dentistry in the middle
ages. It was not until the dawn of the Renaissance that any medical discoveries flourished. It was
during this time that the study of dentistry became a separate science among the prestigious
scientists of the day.

Metal Injection Molding is expected to be very efficient for manufacturing small
and Complex Metallic component in large batch. Larg e amount of components with excellent
mechanical proportion and high geothermal accuracy may be obtained by this newly developed
technology, under a cost much lower than traditional MIM is a novel manufacturing technology
that allows highly complex parts to be obtained completely reliably and precisely, with
mechanical properties similar o those of any machined, micro fused or laminated materials. The
Metal Injection Molding production process combines the advantage of sinter processes with the
flexibility of processes that use thermoplastic injection. It provides a vastly superior quality than
either process and achieves densities that can be as high as 99%.

This is the first stage of the company. This stage is start when the
company is launched. At the time of introduction stage and demand are very low. During this
period promotional activities are heavy. Profit is negative due to heavy expenses at the stage.

3.5 THE PRODUCT AND PROCESS

SELECTION OF RAW MATERIAL
Metal injection molding uses different kinds of raw material according to the final
product. Metal Injection Molding can be used by alloys of nickel, chromium, cobalt,
manganese, copper, titanium and many other alloys. But the most commonly used alloy is
nickel, chromium, cobalt.
FEED STOCK

The feed stock is mixed from fine metal power, with a binder. Different feed stock will
have specific characteristics like viscosity, injection pressure and temperature, a
rebinding process.

DESIGN AND MOLD MAKING
Design and mold making are the most important and complex part of Metal Injection
Molding process. The designing usually done using CAD/ CAM software and the molds
are usually as 4 or 8 cavity molds.
MOLDING
Molding is done by special Injection Molding machine. The mold is designed as a mold
for plastic but with allowances made for shrinkage and cooling requirement for a feed
stock, highly loaded with Metal particles. Molding can be done on both vertical and
horizontal machines.
DEBINDING
The parts are removed from the mold. At this point they are called the green parts . The
bulk of binder has to be removed the parts can be sintered. The debinding is simple step
in which the binder can be extracted by using a solvend, water or thermally or a
combination of above in any methods. The deboned part is called brown part.
SINTERING
The brown part is placed on a tray and processed in a high temperature furnace sintering
temperature goes up to 500 ft. During the sintering process and the part shrinks, the

shrinkage depends on the raw materials, which we used the part will be the original
product after the shrinkage process.
POLISHING
Normally the sintering part will not do of the polishing procedures. But some
manufactures can undergo electro polishing to get more brightness.

Marketing is one of the most important operative function of
management. It is the process by which goods produced are made available to the consumers.
Thus goods produced are to be shared and transferred from the place of production to the place

are orthodontic brackets. Bands, Ligature, Wires. The products of the company are high quality.

creating additional production capacity.

procure locally without payment of duty all types of goods including capital goods, raw

This department is functioning under the authority of managing
Director. It keeps an overall record of the employees and staffs. As the companys labor

5.5 WAGES AND OTHER BENEFITS
5.5.1 BASIC WAGES
Increase in basic wages in certain categories on account of special increase
given y the management. Increase in basic wages as per the term of IRC (Industrial Relation
Committee of dental product) settlement dated 29 June 2006.
5.5.2 REVISED OCCUPATIONAL WAGES
Occupational wages means the basic wages fixed for the category or
occupation under the IRC settlement and doesnt include the annual increment.
5.5.3 DEARNESS ALLOWANCE
Dearness allowance will be on the basic of Trivandrum cost of living index
with 1970=100
5.5.4 EMPLOYEE STATE INSURANCE (ESI)

The ESI Act provides benefits to employees in case of sickness, maternity or
any injury. An employee drawing salary less than 15000 per month will come under this Act. It
is applicable to both accidents and sickness. The employee will get free treatment and
compensation. The employee can take 90 days leave for sickness and accidents. For accidents
leave, he or she will get 75% of their basic wages and dearness allowance. In case sickness leave,
the employee can draw 50%of their wages and dearness allowance.

5.5.5EMPLOYEE PROVIDENT FUND SCHEME
The employee contribution towards PF is 12% of monthly contribution by
the company. It is the amount received by the employee at the time of retirement in lump sum.
5.5.6 METERNITY BENEFIT
The Maternity Benefit is also provided as per the provision of ESI Act
1948. 84 days leave will be granted as Maternity Benefit. If delivery is done at hospitals referred
from ESI hospitals then the full amount of treatment will be reimbursed.
5.5.7 GRATUITY
If the employee complete a five years of continuous service, they are
eligible to get gratuity. In case of death or disablement the qualifying period of five years is not
necessary. Orthodontic Pvt. Ltd provide gratuity to the Act, 1972.
5.5.8 CANTEEN

management and the workers. Canteen extends its service for round the clock.
5.5.9 SHELTERS AND REST ROOMS

meals.
