Dear parishioners,
Today we honor the Most Precious
Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.
Whether you are a Catholic for one
year or for a long time its not hard to
get the idea that the Eucharist (the
Body and Blood of Jesus) is the source
and summit of our Catholic life. This
Sunday is an opportunity to acknowledge this reality
again. Of course every Mass honors this special sacred
meal that Jesus shared with His disciples in the Upper
Room.
As I noted in a homily a few weeks back on the Feast of
the Ascension the Resurrection appearances were filled
with celebrations of the breaking of the bread (the
Eucharist). Since that time every Christian born from
the womb of mother Church has celebrated this event as
the central mark of Christianity.
At the time of the Protestant Reformation is the first
time we see any serious break from the tradition of cele-
brating Mass. But even today there are a number of
Protestant traditions, who once having abandoned
communion altogether, are celebrating it more and
more. Of course the theology of what really happens in
this act of worship for them is not really the Eucharistic
Real Presence of Jesus Christ (Body, Blood, Soul, and
Divinity), but it is interesting to note that there is recog-
nition amongst even the Evangelicals that Jesus really
did intend something special about this Sacred Meal we
call the Mass where we receive, as Catholics, the Resur-
rected Body and Blood of Jesus.
BIG NEWS! We have launched a new website. Same ad-
dress, new look. Please take time to visit and enjoy. My
hope, as I worked alongside with the staff, was to pro-
vide a website that is beautiful in its presentation (youll
notice you open to a wonderful picture of the interior of
our Church), easy to navigate (the Menu tab on the left
provides navigation through the whole site), and pro-
vides fluid content (so that you keep wanting to come
back to find out what else is happening).
Note that I have a Recommended by Fr. Jacob section
which I will update regularly with videos, books, and
prayers I think you will enjoy and of course you can lis-
ten to my most recent homilies right from the website as
you scroll down.
Have a blessed weekend!

That God is a certain life eternal,
unchangeable, intelligible, intelligent,
wise, making wise,
some philosophers even
of this world have seen.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOU
Our Common Ground Collaborative outreach
ministry is looking for willing parishioners to
perform two important roles:
#1 - A computer gifted individual who can
help organize our communication, both
among our members and outbound. Four hours a month
would likely be all that's needed.
#2 - Coordinator for our school music program - bringing
'live' music performances to students at our Common
Ground served school. You don't have to carry a tune, just
be able to juggle dates with both school administrators and
music providers. This person is picking up with the second
year of an existing program.
If you can help with either one of these needs - or would
just like to learn more about them - please contact Dennis
Regan at (619)670-8487 or dennis@mainstreetus.com

The Mass truly celebrates, teaches, nourishes and strengthens every aspect of our Faith in one
gathering. It is the Sacrifice of the Cross made present to us. At Mass, we gather together in the
presence of God not only to give praise and thanks to Him, but to pray for one another. We learn
from and are inspired by His word in Scripture, and when we receive Jesus in Holy Communion,
our faith and unity in Him and each other are nourished and strengthened. By actively and de-
voutly participating within the Mass, our Faith is refreshed and renewed, making us more fully
prepared and willing to go forth and live as the People of God.

Attending Mass each and every Sunday in particular, is necessary in keeping with the Command-
ments. Sunday is not like any other day of the week. It is the Christian Sabbath, the one day each
week set aside and blessed by God to be kept holy. If we want to live His commandments, love
God with all our heart and love others as He loves us, then why wouldnt we attend Mass, where
we gain the strength, courage and know-how to do so?

Although attendance at daily Mass is possible for Catholics, the Churchs precept (the minimal
obligation for growing in love of God and neighbor) obliges all Catholics to attend Mass every
Sunday and Holy day of obligation. Holy days of obligation are the principal feast days of the
Church in each country.

We prepare for Mass by dressing appropriately, aware that we are in a holy place and in His holy
presence. Arriving before Mass begins, we take some time to pray so that our hearts, souls and
minds can focus solely on the Lord and be ready to fully participate in the Mass with sincere and
spiritually gainful thoughts, words, songs and physical gestures. We prepare for receiving Holy
Communion during Mass.

I, the Lord, am your God You shall not have other gods besides me

day is a Sabbath of the Lord your God
