1. REQUIREMENTS

1.1 General Requirements for Mobitel Post Paid


The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has directed that all mobile
phone subscribers must register with their respective network and prove ownership of the SIM
(Subscriber Identification Module) in their possession whenever they are requested to do so by the
security forces or police personnel.
Hence in compliance of this all operators should register the Personal Information corresponding to
the name, surname, type of personal identification document (NIC, Passport or Driving License,
photograph and address of all Mobile users.

1.2 Signing up for a Post Paid connection

A duly filled Registration/ Re-registration form

National Identity Card/Valid Driving License/Valid Passport

Billing proof

Subscriber is expected to pose for a digital photograph at the Center. If the


customer does not wish to be photographed, a recent passport-size photograph
(3.5

cm X 4.5cm) conforming to passport specifications, should be produced.

UPAHARA Package:

Letter from Head of Department (HOD) / Administrative Officer (AO) /Chief Clerk (CC)
mentioning Service particulars OR a latest Salary slip certified by Accountant* OR
Pension voucher

Government Identity card (for those in active government service)

A Connection Fee of Rs. 1,000/- (inclusive of Government taxes and levies) will need
to be paid

1.4 Your Credit Limit


Every customer will be assigned a credit limit as detailed below. The amount assigned as the credit
limit could be utilized for billed and unbilled usage.

Initial credit limit will be fixed on the following basis:

1.5 Invoice periods


The invoice period comprises the monthly period covered by the invoice and the billing date will be
assigned on the date of your connection.
The billing date for customers` subscribed to UPAHARA package would be 2nd ,4th &6th of the
month. The due date of the bill would be 24th, 26th & 28th of the month respectively.

1.6 Number portability


Any Mobitel pre paid customer who is eligible for this package has the capability of obtaining this
package without changing the Mobitel number. This would require the SIM to be changed.

1.7 How to Read your Bill

Customer Name & Billing address

2.

Account Number: A unique number that identifies your account

3.

Mobile Number: The ten digit identification number assigned to a customer by Mobitel

4.

Bill Number: The number that uniquely identifies customers bill

5.

Bill date: This is the date, on which the bill processors every month

6.

Balance as at last bill: The balance remaining from your last bill. If Mobitel had not received
a payment for previous bill/s, prior to the billing date, the account will reflect a past due
amount, which will reflect here.

Received: Payment received during the last billing period will reflect here.

8.

Balance: If a payment is not received for the total amount payable, the balance carried
forward will reflect here.

9.

Total of this bill: The total bill for the current billing period, is stated here.

10. Total amount payable: This reflects the total of the current bill & any balance carried
forward from the previous bill/s.
11. Due date: The customer is required to settle the bill on or before the date stated here.
12. Total Call Charges- The total Call Charges of all Local(Voice/Vedio), IDD(if any), Roaming
(if any)for the period for which the bill is generated.As per the above example, the billing
period is from 2nd Aug to 01st Sep
13. Total of Subscriptions- The Monthly Subscription/s of the Tarrif package & chargeable
VAS services is stated here.
14. Total usage of VAS (Value Added Services)- The total charges on VAS for the period for
which the bill is generated. As per the above example, the billing period is from 02nd Aug to
01st Sep
15. Total Charges for the Mobile No.-Call Charges, Subscriptions and VAS charges are
totaled here.(The figure stated here includes Value Added Tax (VAT).
16. Totals Account Adjustment- The MSL & ECL applicable for the Total Call Charges
(excluding VAT) is stated here.
17. Total of This Bill- The total bill amount for the current billing period, including Government
taxes and Levies are stated here

4. MAKING YOUR FIRST CALL

All you need to do is: Insert the Mobitel SIM card into your 3G/GSM phone and get connected
to a world of benefits.
Your Mobitel number is the 10 digit number which begins with 071.The Number can be found
on the back of the SIM card pack and the plastic card on which your SIM is attached to.

4.1 Steps of making your first call


1. Insert the SIM card into the SIM slot
2. Switch on your Handset
3. When Mobite, Mobitel 01 or SRI 01 appears on the screen of your phone you are
on Sri Lankas most caring Mobile Network
4. Dial the number you want to call and press the OK key or

Important Note:
If at any instant the phone requests PIN insert 1234. In the event the phone requests a PUK 1
code you could contact our Customer service Consultants for assistance. Entering the PUK 1
code incorrectly will block the SIM and might have to be replaced.

5. BILL PAYMENT METHODS


5.1 SMS Bill payment & SMS Banking (24 Hours round the year)
The advantage of using this service is the convenience of the Mobitel Menu driven system for
performing SMS Banking. This user friendly system which is built into your SIM ,completely
eliminates the hassle of remembering endless lists of short codes.
Mobitel customers banking with Hatton National Bank(HNB) , Sampath Bank and Commercial
Bank can pay their bills through a simple SMS.
Some other features offered through this SMS Banking service also include:

Credit Card Status Inquiries,

Payment of Utility Bills.

5.3 Cheques
By post a cheque written in favour of Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd along with the tear off part at the
bottom of the bill under registered cover to Manager Finance, Mobitel (Pvt) Limited, W.A.D.
Ramanayake Mawatha, Colombo 02 (Please include your Mobitel number clearly on the
reverse of the cheque).

5.4 Standing Order


Just fill the application available at Mobitel for Standing Instruction for MASTER & VISA
credit card holders and we will debit your card directly every month. Amex Card holders need
to obtain / send application directly from / to Amex Card Centre No. 107, Dharmapala
Mawatha, Colombo 07.

5.5 Credit Card


By filling & posting the tear off part of the Mobitel bill for credit card payments. (The credit
card number, expiry date & Mobitel number should be clearly written in the cages given)

Online Payments by credit card through our website for MASTER & VISA card holders.

6 INTERNATIONAL CALL CHARGES


Your Mobitel Number comes with IDD facility which enables you to call abroad from Sri
Lanka through Premier IDD which offers superior quality and Buddy IDD which offers low
rates.

7 ROAMING

Wherever and whenever you travel, Mobitel International Roaming makes sure you stay
connected to everyone at home. Mobitel will look after you with the perfect solution to suit
your communication needs.
Whether you live in Sri Lanka or elsewhere, stay connected to the latest technology, check
your e-mails, chat online, and access the internet even while you travel; through Mobitel
GPRS Roaming. We are the only operator to offer personalized assistance while roaming.
Essentially, it's the convenience of being contactable on one number wherever you are - so
you can take your world with you.
To activate voice roaming, just fill in an application form and submit with the relevant
documents and refundable deposit as appropriate.

Getting started with Roaming


Select Your Network
Once you switch on your mobile phone at your roaming destination, it will automatically
select the network with the strongest signal. Your mobile phone will display the network.

7.1 Dialing while using your Mobitel number abroad


OPTION 1
Dial 0094 (10 digit Number without the 0 at the beginning)
E.g If you want to call 0712755777 while abroad , dial 0094712755777

OPTION 2
CALL HOME Feature
Use the Call Home feature, This feature allows you to enjoy low rates from as low as Rs.35
per minute. This option may not be available in certain countries.

E.g: If you want to dial 0712755777 when you are abroad press *140*94712755777#
and Press the OK or SEND or CALL Button on the phone

7.2 SMS Roaming

SMS Roaming facility is pre enabled on your SIM to activate the service simply type ACT1 and send
to 9911 before leaving Sri Lanka. To deactivate SMS Roaming type DCT1 and send to 9911 once
you arrive in Sri Lanka.

7.3 Sending SMS using your Mobitel number abroad

Type your message and send it to +Country Code + 10 digit number without the 0 at

SMS Home feature
This feature allows you to SMS any number in Sri Lanka for lower rates.

e.g: If you want to SMS 0712755777 when you are abroad press *123*94712755777# and
Press the OK or SEND or CALL Button on the phone and type the message
The message needs to be keyed in within 45 seconds & should not exceed 182 characters

8 VALUE ADDED SERVICES


8.1 Free services
8.1.1 CLI (Caller Line Identification)
Allows you to see the number of the person who calls you. The number may not appear if
the caller may calling you from overseas or from a pay phone booth.

8.1.2 MCA (Missed Call Alert)


MCA is a notification by SMS each time you have missed a call. It is the ideal solution to
return the calls you missed

8.1.3 Voice Mail


Mobitel Voice Mail enables the incoming caller to leave a message on your mobile number if
you are not reachable.

8.1.4 Call Waiting


Call Waiting is a feature which enables you to answer a second incoming call while you are
already on a call. It ensures that you never miss a vital call because you are engaged on
another call.

8.1.5 Call Divert


There are many times when you do not want to be disturbed or when your battery is very
low, but you do not want to miss any incoming calls. With Call Divert, you don't have to.
Just forward your incoming calls to another number, either on a land or mobile connection
where they can be answered by someone else.
Settings -> Call settings -> Call Divert -> Voice calls -> Divert Always -> Divert to ->

8.2 Pay as you use, services

8.2.1 SMS (Short Message Service)
SMS is what we normally referred as text messaging or texting. SMS is a method, by
which a text message can be sent from a handset to another handset. One SMS
message will be a maximum of 160 characters.
Benefit of SMS

Texting is ideal in places where its too noisy or too quiet for a phone call

If a recipients mobile is switched off, message will be stored for a specified time
period and delivered when they switch on their phone back.

8.2.2 Voice SMS


You can now send voice messages, by simply dialing * followed by the Mobitel
number. The maximum duration of this message would be 20 seconds.

8.2.3 GPRS (General Packet Radio Services)


With GPRS you get internet on your handset where you can send and receive emails
using GPRS and browse the Internet.

8.2.4 MMS (Multimedia Message Service)


MMS allows you to send and receive multimedia messages such as texts, pictures,
video clips, audio clips, etc. It's an advanced messaging service that lets users send
multiple media in one single message to one or more recipients.
Benefit of MMS
When youre away from your loved ones and some moments just need to be shared.
With MMS, you can take a photo, add text or sound, and send it from your mobile
phone, right there and then.

555 from your Mobitel phone and access a variety of local and international content
which includes Music Stations, Karaoke Specials, Mobile Drama and Jokes.

8.2.6 Mobitel Junior 333)


Kids also have a place in our hearts. Mobitel Junior, built exclusively for kids can
be accessed by simply dialing 333 from your Mobitel phone. Kids can listen to their
favorite stories, songs, jokes and also learn about good habits and other interesting
topics.

8.2.7 Mobitel M Guide (888)


Enables you to explore the true beauty of Sri Lanka, by dwelling deeper into Sri
Lanka's rich cultural heritage and history, giving you more insight into the most
popular historical sites around the country.

8.2.8 Mobitel Info Counter (666)


Information portal provides you with the information such as News, Lottery Results,
Business News, Astrology Info, & seasonal services.

8.2.9 Mobitel Directory Service (444)


By dialing 444 you can access the SLT Rainbow Pages to obtain numbers listed in the
classified business section.

8.2.10 Cricket updates (123)


Cricket lovers can now dial 123 to access Mobitel's Cricket Scoreboard to find out
latest cricket scores with commentaries in English, Sinhala and Tamil.

3.5G Services
To enjoy 3.5 G services you will need to have a 3G compatible handset and with the network
mode selected as UMTS or Dual mode
