FDT technology
FDT is a standardized software interface, defining the
integration of special device drivers, so-called DTMs
(Device Type Managers), into any FDT software environment
(FDT Frame Application).
FDT Frame Application
... is a configuration, Asset Management or engineering software
with a FDT interface for managing and accessing DTMs. The FDT
Frame Application offers:

DTMs (Device Type Managers)
... encapsulate all device-specific data, functions and parameters.
DTMs adopt the task of former parametrization, diagnosis and
service tools. They are developed and provided by the corresponding
device manufacturers for:
Field devices, i.e. sensors, actuators, low voltage switchgear,
motor starters and drives (DeviceDTMs)
Communication components, such as HART modems,
segment couplers, remote I/Os, gateways, etc. (CommDTMs)

Whether from the host or locally in the field, FDT offers versatile
possibilities to access field devices through:

EDD Integration (Electronic Device Description)
iDTM-HART offers integration of HART EDDs into FDT-based
Plant Asset Management. It is delivered as part of FieldCare
Standard and Professional, providing the following benefits:
Operates HART field devices without DTMs
Handles within FieldCare as any other DTM:
entry in the DTM catalog, automatic bus-scan, etc.

FDT technology is supported and enhanced by the FDT Group.
This is a non-profit organization of international automation
suppliers and users. It currently has over 60 member companies

DTM certification
The certification process of the FDT Group verifies that DTMs
conform to the current FDT specifications. The dtmINSPECTOR
provides the necessary test environment. The DTMs can be
operated in any FDT-conform Frame Application.
Endress+Hauser offers certified DTMs for all intelligent field devices.
