Introduction to an AISG Device

Introduction to an AISG Device
AISG Appearance
Figure shows an AISG device looks like

As stipulated in AISG1.1 and AISG2.0, ALD can be used in an antenna and feeder system. It can
be one of the following devices.
TMA
TMB
RET
Other auxiliary device
AISG interface
An AISG device is primarily referred to as the TMA or RET. In some cases, RET is also called
Remote Control Unit (RCU) or Antenna Control Unit (ACU). RET can be physically connected to
an antenna for the purpose of remotely controlling the antenna tilt. The connection between
an RET and an antenna varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Note: If an RET is improperly connected to an antenna, you may fail to fine-tune the RET. If you
manually adjust an antenna tilt, you may be unable to query the actual antenna tilt. During the
deployment, therefore, you must first fine-tune the RET, and then configure the antenna tilt
through either OMC.
The AISG interface is shown in the next figure.

Pin Number Signal Remarks
1 +12V DC(optional)
2 -48V DC(Optional)
3 RS485 B
4 RS485 GND Optional
5 RS485 A
6 +24V DC(Nominal) 28V(typical)
7 DC GND
8 N/C

AISG Applications
The AISG application can be grouped into two categories.
Single antennatopology
Chain topology

Configuring an AISG Device
Scanning the AISG Device
Purpose:
The purpose of this section is to describe how to scan the AISG device.
Procedure:
To scan the AISG, perform the following steps.
1. Navigate to Aisg Equipment Management.
2. Select the desired site from the navigation tree.
3. Right-click the selected site.
4. Select Parallel Scan from the pop-up menu, as show to below.

Fig. Parallel Scan Menu Item

5. Wait patiently for some time until the scanning results are displayed in the parallel scan
tab page, as show the Figure.

Creating the AISG device
After scanning the AISG device, you need to create the AISG device as follows.
1. On the Parallel Scan window, click the create button to display the create AISG.
2. Configure the AISG ID, User Label, ANT number parameters accordingly.
3. Click OK.

When the creation of AISG device is finished, it will display the following result, as shown the
figure.

Querying the AISG Device.
Procedure:
After creating the AISG device, you need to query the AISG device as follow.
1. Navigate to Aisg Equipment Management.
2. Select the desired site from the navigation tree.
3. Right-click the selected site.
4. Select query AISG Device from the pop-up menu, as show the figure.

Performing Data Synchronization
Procedure:
When adding the AISG device, dont forget to perform the synchronization with the eNodeB as
follows.
1. Open the configuration management window.
2. Select the desired site from the navigation tree.
3. Right-click the selected site.
4. Select Synchronize from the pop-up menu.
5. Select record level Increment Synchronization from the pop-up menu, as shown the
figure.

Sending Configuration Data
Procedure:
1. Open the Aisg Equipment Management window.
2. Select the desired site from the navigation tree.
3. Right-click the selected site.
4. Select parallel scan from the pop-up menu.
5. Right-click the desired record and then select send configuration drop-down menu, as
show the figure.

6. Select the desired configuration file.

Querying the Antenna Tilt
Procedure:
1. Open the Aisg Equipment Management.
2. Select the desired site from the navigation tree.
3. Select Query AISG Device from the pop-up menu.
4. Right-click the AISG device in the Query AISG Device window.
5. Select Get Tilt from the pop-up menu, as show the figure.

Adjusting the Antenna Tilt.
Procedure:
1. After querying the antenna tilt, you need to adjust it as follows.
2. Select the desired site from the navigation tree.
3. Select Query AISG Device from the pop-up menu.
4. Right-click the AISG device in the Query AISG Device window.
5. Select Set Tilt from the pop-up menu, as show the figure.

Deleting the AISG Device
Procedure
After adjusting the antenna tilt, you need to delete the AISG device as follow.
1. Open the Configuration Management window.
2. Select the desired site from the navigation tree, and then apply the mutex right.
3. Select Platform Equipment Resource from the navigation tree.
4. Select Platform Physical Resource from the navigation tree.
5. Select AISG Configuration from the navigation tree.
6. Right-click the AISG device, and then select delete.
7. Click Yes to confirm your deletion, as show in figure.

APLICATION
Tilt from 4 degree to 6 degree
After configurating, create and querying the device AISG,

Right-click the AISG device in the Query AISG Device window then Select Set Tilt from the pop-
up menu, as show the figure.

Then we have a windows where we can set up the new value (4 degree)

Then we change to six degree

Now we check in the windows the new value that we changed(6 degree)

FAQs

Why should the RET Be calibrated?
To ensure the accuracy and precision of an antenna tilt, the RET should be calibrated due to the
following factors.
If some manufactures RETs are not calibrated, no antenna tilt can be configured.
After most manufacturers RETs are calibrated, their minimum antenna tilt are remained
After certain manufacturesRET are calibrated, their original antenna tilt are remained.

When should the RET Be calibrated?
The RET should be calibrated when you configure the antenna tilt for the first scanning.
The RET should be calibrated when any RET configuration data is modified.
The RET should be calibrated when the RET is replaced with a new one.
The RET should be calibrated when any calibration failure alarm is raised
- If the antenna tilt need to be reconfigured, you must calibrate the RET first.
- If the antenna tilt does not need to be reconfigured, you can ignore this alarm
because it does not affect any service.

What should be noted for calibrating the RET?
When calibrating the RET, you must pay attention to the following principles.
Both the RET and the antenna must be properly mounted. For their specific installation,
refer to their manufacturers user manuals.
If either the RET or the antenna is improperly mounted, you may experience a motor
failure. Additionally, the RET will raise an alarm to the eNodeB.
Before calibrating the RET, you must record the antenna tilt. This is because you must
keep the antenna tilt to be minimum or maximum, depending on the manufacturers
original antenna tilt, after the RET is calibrated.

What should be noted for sending?
When sending configuration data, you must pay attention to the following principles.
Although eNodeBs can support different RETs that are produced by different
manufacturers, an RET can be used only in conjunction with the same manufacturers
adjustable antennas.
When sending configuration data, you must select the appropriate configuration file.
Simply put, the configuration file must include the parameter settings of the antenna
that is connected to the RET, such as the maximum or minimum antenna tilt.
After the configuration data has sent, the RET may generate an RET calibration failure
alarm. In this case, you need to recalibrate the RET.

How to Deploy an RET?
When deploying a RET, you must complete the following tasks.
Scan or add the AISG device.
Calibrate the RET, depending on the type of the mounted antenna.
Configure the antenna tilt.
