Fearfully and wonderfully made

Psalm 139 is my most favorite psalm. It was love at first read !! The psalmist David is so
much profound in bringing out the intricacies of the intimacy of God with us in this
psalm. Each verse exudes the proximity of our Creator to us. He has the firsthand
information of our body; of our life.

This psalm is an oasis of assurance to all of us who are reeling under trying
circumstances and assuming that we’re all alone and no one just cares; not even God.
But it’s a different story altogether in Psalm 139. It speaks of a God who just happens to
know our every move beforehand. Right from the number of blood cells gushing out of
our pumping heart to the web of thoughts being formed in our complex mind – He just
seems to know it all. Breathtaking isn’t it !!

Read verses 13-16 and you’ll figure out that God started keeping your account even
before your existence came into being. Right from the time we were a tiny mass of cells
in our mom’s womb, God was interested in us. He personally monitored our formation.
He sculpted us the way He thought was the best. As the psalmist David beautifully
states “...I am fearfully and wonderfully made….” What was the need for such an
Almighty God to fearfully and carefully make us? So that ultimately we emerge as
something wonderful.

So is it justified when we reckon that God ain’t there in the dark n weary moments of our
lives? Read verses 7-12 and read it again!! Be it the heights of Everest or the depths of
Atlantic, Earth Mars or Jupiter, good times or bad times: Even there Your hand shall
lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. There’s no night so dark that can hide us
from Him. So what have we to worry when we have the mighty hand of the Lord to lead
us? Our fears and worries are simply meaningless and out of context.

Now there is another aspect of having God just next to us. Can we really afford to sin or
give in to the temptations when the Most Holy God is keeping His eyes trained on us?
And still many a times we make our bed in hell. We let the darkness fall on us. We
commit the sins under a false impression that no one is watching. Nothing grieves the
Lord more than this. But the beautiful part is that even when we are unfaithful, His right
hand faithfully leads us. So the next time when we are confronted with evil or tempting
illusions let us just remember who is holding our hands and leading us.

So let’s never forget or underestimate the ever abiding presence and the omniscient
understanding of our God. I’ll conclude this article with the final two verses of Psalm
139:
23
Search me,O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
24
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.
