Subject Objectives:
To acquire the knowledge of the fundamental principles of Power Electronics and
interrelationship between power, electronics and control circuit using applications
To incorporate knowledge on various types of power electronic devices like Power
BJTs, Power MOSFETs, SITs, IGBT, MCT, SITH, SCR , their symbols, typical ratings and
their Static and Switching Characteristics.
To analyse the characteristics of an ideal switch, gate control requirements, their
limitations as switches.
To define the Performance parameters and analysis of power electronic circuits like
Single Phase Controlled Rectifiers, Dual Converters, ac Voltage controller, Chopper
and Inverters with R and R-L Loads and analyze using waveforms and Fourier series.
To gain knowledge on various methods of commutating a Thyristor
