That man can have nothing but what he strives for;

(The Star)

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

١ ‫وَا ْ ِ
ِإذَا هََى‬
1. By the Star when it goes down --

٢ ‫َ َ  َُُِ

ْ َوَ ََى‬
2. Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled,

٣ ‫" !َ ِ اََْى‬

ُ ِ#َ$ َ‫َو‬
3. Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire.

٤ &َُ$ ٌ(ْ‫ِإنْ هُ َ ِإ  َو‬

4. It is no less than inspiration sent down to him:

٥ ‫َُى‬+ْ‫ ا‬,ُ $ِ,َ- .ُ َ/ 0َ!

5. He was taught by one mighty in Power,

٦ ‫ََى‬2ْ3َ4 ‫ ٍة‬7 ِ ‫ذُو‬

6. Endued with Wisdom: For he appeared (in stately form)

٧&َ0ْ!َ9ْ‫ا‬ "
ِ ُ4ُ9ِْ‫َوهُ َ ﺏ‬
7. While he was in the highest part of the horizon:

٨ & ,َ َ2َ4 َ‫>ُ

َدﻥ‬
8. Then he approached and came closer,

٩ &َ‫ْ ِ َأوْ َأدْﻥ‬Aَ3َْB ‫ب‬

َ َB ‫ن‬
َ ََ4
9. And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer;

١٠ &َْ‫ َ َأو‬Eِ ,ِ َْ! &َ‫َوَْ& ِإ‬9َ4

10. So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant -- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey.

١١ ‫َا ُد َ َرأَى‬HُIْ‫ب ا‬

َ Jَ َ‫َ آ‬
11. The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw.
 ١٢ ‫َى‬7َ$ َ &َ0َ! .ُ َ‫َرُوﻥ‬/ُ2َ4‫َأ‬
12. Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw?

١٣ ‫َى‬7ْL‫ ُأ‬Nً َْOَ‫ ﻥ‬Eُ Pَ‫ْ ر‬,َ+َ‫َو‬

13. For indeed he saw him at a second descent.

١٤ &ََ2ُْ/ْ‫ْ َر ِة ا‬,ِ3 ,َ ِ!

14. Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass:

١٥ ‫ْوَى‬9َ/ْ‫ ا‬Nُ َ‫هَ ﺝ‬,َ ِ!

15. Near it is the Garden of Abode.

١٦ &َRْSَ$ َ ‫ْ َر َة‬,TU‫َ& ا‬RْSَ$ ْ‫ِإذ‬

16. Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!)

١٧ &َSَV َ‫ َو‬7ُ َWَْ‫غ ا‬

َ ‫َ زَا‬
17. (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong!

١٨ ‫َى‬7ُْْ‫ ا‬.ِ T‫ت َرﺏ‬

ِ َ$P ْ ِ ‫ْ َرأَى‬,َ+َ
18. For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest!

١٩ ‫ ى‬Oُ[ْ‫ت وَا‬

َ  0‫ُ ُ
ا‬2ْ$‫َأ‬7َ َ4‫َأ‬
19. Have ye seen Lat, an Uzza,

٢٠ ‫َى‬7ْLُ9ْ‫ ا‬Nَ َ\ِ \‫َوََ َة ا‬

20. And another, the third (goddess), Manat?

٢١ &َ\‫ُﻥ‬9ْ‫ ا‬.ُ َ‫ َو‬7ُ َ‫آ‬J ‫َأَُ ُ

ا‬
21. What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female?

٢٢ ‫َى‬OAِ ٌNَ/ْUِB ‫] ِإذًا‬

َ ْ0ِ‫ﺕ‬
22. Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair!

‫ن‬
ٍ َ#ْ0ُ3 ِ َِ‫ ﺏ‬.ُ 0‫ َل ا‬Oَ ‫ﺏَ ُؤآُ
  أَﻥ‬Pَ‫ُ
ْ و‬2‫ُهَ أَﻥ‬/ُ2ْA /َ3 ‫َء‬/ْ3‫( ِإ  َأ‬
َ ِ‫ِإنْ ه‬
23. These are nothing but names which ye have devised -- ye and your fathers -- for which Allah
has sent down no authority (whatever).

ُ ُI‫َﻥ‬9ْ‫ َوَ ﺕََْى ا‬c‫ن ِإ  ا‬
َ ُ[ِ 2َ$ ‫إِن‬
They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire! --

٢٣ ‫َى‬,ُْ‫ِ ُ
ا‬T‫ رﺏ‬T
ُ‫ْ ﺝَءه‬,َ+َ‫َو‬
even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord!

 ٢٤ & َ/َ‫ن َ ﺕ‬
ِ َU‫ِﻥ‬dْ0ِ ْ‫َأم‬
24. Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after?

٢٥ &َ‫ُو‬9ْ‫ ُة وَا‬7َ ِLfْ‫ ا‬.ِ 0ِ0َ4

25. But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong.

ًgْAَ- ْ
ُُ2َ!َIَ- (ِْSُ‫ت َ ﺕ‬
ِ ‫َوَا‬/ U‫ِ( ا‬4 ]
ٍ َ0  T
َ‫َوآ‬
26. How many so ever be the angels in the heavens, their intercession will avail nothing

٢٦ &َْ7َ$‫َء َو‬Rَ$ َ/ِ .ُ 0‫ن ا‬

َ ‫ْ َذ‬9َ$ ‫ أَن‬,ِ ْ[َ‫ِإ  ِ ﺏ‬
except after Allah has given leave for whom He pleases and that he is acceptable to Him.

٢٧ &َ\‫ُﻥ‬9ْ‫ ا‬Nَ َAِ/ْUَ‫ ﺕ‬Nَ َِ‫َﺉ‬0َ/ْ‫ن ا‬

َ i/َUُAَ ‫َ ِة‬7ِLfِْ‫ن ﺏ‬
َ ُِْHُ$ َ َ $ِJ ‫ن ا‬
‫ِإ‬
27. Those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names.

c‫ن ا‬
‫ َوِإ‬c‫ن ِإ  ا‬
َ ُ[ِ 2َ$ ‫ْ ٍ
إِن‬0ِ! ْ ِ .ِ ِ‫َوَ َُ
ﺏ‬
28. But they have no knowledge therein.
They follow nothing but conjecture;

٢٨ ًgْAَ- "

T َjْ‫ِْ( ِ َ ا‬Sُ$ َ
and conjecture avails nothing against Truth.

٢٩ َAْ‫ﻥ‬,i ‫َ َة ا‬Aَjْ‫دْ ِإ  ا‬7ِ ُ$ ْ

َ‫ﻥَ َو‬7ِ ْ‫ضْ !َ  ﺕَ َ & !َ ِذآ‬7ِ ْ!َ9َ4
29. Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this
world.

ِ ْ0ِ[ْ‫ َ ا‬T
ُُSَ0َْ ]
َ ِ‫َذ‬
30. That is as far as knowledge will reach them.

٣٠ ‫َى‬,َ2ْ‫َ ِ اه‬/ِ‫َ ُ

ﺏ‬0ْ!‫ َوهُ َ َأ‬.ِ ِ0Aَِ3 َ!  َ َ/ِ‫َ ُ
ﺏ‬0ْ!‫] هُ َ َأ‬
َ ‫ن َرﺏ‬
‫ِإ‬
Verily thy Lord knoweth best those who stray from His path,
and He knoweth best those who receive guidance.

‫ض‬
ِ ْ‫َر‬9ْ‫ِ( ا‬4 َ‫ت َو‬
ِ ‫َوَا‬/ U‫ِ( ا‬4 َ .ِ 0ِ‫َو‬
31. Yea, to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth;

٣١ &َْUُjِْ‫َُا ﺏ‬Uْ‫ َ َأ‬$ِJ ‫ي ا‬

َ Oِ ْَ$‫ُا َو‬0ِ/َ! َ/ِ‫َؤُوا ﺏ‬3‫ َ َأ‬$ِJ ‫ي ا‬
َ Oِ ْَAِ
so that He rewards those who do evil, according to their deeds, and He rewards those who do
good, with what is best.

َ َ/ 0‫ ِإ  ا‬m
َ ِ‫ََا‬Iْ‫>ْ ِ
وَا‬dِ ْ‫ ا‬7َ ِ‫َُِنَ آََﺉ‬2ْَ$ َ $ِJ ‫ا‬
32. Those who avoid great sins and shameful deeds. Only (falling into) small faults,

 ‫ ِة‬7َ ِIْSَ/ْ‫ ا‬nُ ِ3‫] وَا‬
َ ‫ن َرﺏ‬
‫ِإ‬
verily thy Lord is ample in forgiveness.

ْ
ُِ‫ن ُأ َﺕ‬
ِ ُ#ُ‫ِ( ﺏ‬4 ٌN ِ‫ُ
ْ َأﺝ‬2‫َرْضِ َوِإذْ أَﻥ‬9ْ‫ َ ا‬T
ُ‫َآ‬9َR‫َ ُ
ﺏُِ
ْ ِإذْ أَﻥ‬0ْ!‫هُ َ َأ‬
He knows you well when He brings you out of the earth, and when ye are hidden in your
mother's wombs,

٣٢ &َ+ ‫َ ِ اﺕ‬/ِ‫َ ُ

ﺏ‬0ْ!‫َُ
ْ هُ َ َأ‬UُI‫ا أَﻥ‬i‫آ‬Oَ ُ‫َ ﺕ‬0َ4
therefore justify not yourselves. He knows best who it is that guards against evil.

٣٣ & َ َ‫ِي ﺕ‬J ‫ ا‬o

َ ْ$‫َأ‬7َ َ4‫َأ‬
33. Seest thou one who turns back.

٣٤ ‫َى‬,ْ‫ً َوَأآ‬0Aِ0َB &َ#ْ!‫َوَأ‬

34. Gives a little, then hardens (his heart)?

٣٥ ‫َى‬7َ$ َ َُ4 p

ِ ْAَSْ‫ْ ُ
ا‬0ِ! Eُ ,َ ِ!‫َأ‬
35. What!
has he knowledge of the Unseen so that he can see?

٣٦ &َ3ُ q
ِ ُjُ (ِ4 َ/ِ‫ْ ﺏ‬9 َُ$ ْ
َ ْ‫َأم‬
36. Nay, is he not acquainted with what is in the books of Moses --

٣٧ & 4‫ِي َو‬J ‫ َ

ا‬Aِ‫َاه‬7ْ‫َوِإﺏ‬
37. And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements? --

٣٨ ‫َى‬7ْL‫ ُر وَا ِز َرةٌ ِوزْ َر ُأ‬Oِ َ‫َأ  ﺕ‬

38. Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another;

٣٩ &َ[َ3 َ  ‫ن ِإ‬

ِ َU‫ِﻥ‬dْ0ِ b
َ ْA  ‫َوأَن‬
39. That man can have nothing but what he strives for;

٤٠ ‫َى‬7ُ$ ‫ف‬

َ َْ3 .ُ َAْ[َ3 ‫ن‬
‫َوَأ‬
40. That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight;

٤١ &َ4ْ‫َو‬9ْ‫َاء ا‬Oَْ‫ ا‬Eُ ‫َا‬Oْُ$

ُ>
41. Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete;

٤٢ &ََ2ُ/ْ‫] ا‬
َ T‫ن ِإَ& َرﺏ‬
‫َوَأ‬
42. That to thy Lord is the final Goal;

٤٣ &َْ‫] َوَأﺏ‬

َ َjْ‫ هُ َ َأ‬.ُ ‫َوَأﻥ‬
43. That it is He who Granteth Laughter and Tears;

 ٤٤ َAْ‫ت َوَأ‬
َ َ‫ هُ َ َأ‬.ُ ‫َوَأﻥ‬
44. That it is He who Granteth Death and Life;

٤٥ &َ\‫ُﻥ‬9ْ‫ وَا‬7َ َ‫آ‬J ‫ْ ِ ا‬Aَ‫وْﺝ‬O ‫" ا‬

َ َ0َL .ُ ‫َوَأﻥ‬
45. That He did create in pairs -- male and female.

٤٦ &َْ/ُ‫ ِإذَا ﺕ‬Nٍ َIْ#i‫ِ ﻥ‬

46. From a seed when lodged (in its place);

٤٧ ‫َى‬7ْLُ9ْ‫َ َة ا‬9ْR ‫ ا‬.ِ ْAَ0َ! ‫ن‬

‫َوَأ‬
47. That He hath promised a Second Creation (raising of the Dead)

٤٨ &َْB‫ هُ َ َأَْ& َوَأ‬.ُ ‫َوَأﻥ‬

48. That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction;

٤٩ ‫َى‬7ْ[TR‫ب ا‬
i ‫ هُ َ َر‬.ُ ‫َوَأﻥ‬
49. That He is the Lord of Sirius (the Mighty Star);

٥٠ &َ‫ُو‬9ْ‫] !َدًا ا‬

َ َ0ْ‫ َأه‬.ُ ‫َوَأﻥ‬
50. And that it is He Who destroyed the (powerful) ancient 'Ad (people),

٥١ &َ+ْ‫َ َأﺏ‬/َ4 ‫ُ َد‬/َ>‫َو‬

51. And the Thamud, nor gave them a lease of perpetual life.

٥٢ &َSْV‫َ َ
َوَأ‬0ْt‫َْ ُ ِإﻥ ُ
ْ آَﻥُا هُ
ْ َأ‬B T ‫ح‬
ٍ ُ‫َْ َم ﻥ‬B‫َو‬
52. And before them, the people of Noah,
for that they were (all) Most unjust and most insolent transgressors.

٥٣ ‫ َأهَْى‬Nَ َِIَ‫ْﺕ‬Hُ/ْ‫وَا‬

53. And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah),

٥٤ & Rَ َ َ‫ ه‬RَSَ4

54. So that (ruins unknown) have covered them up.

٥٥ ‫َرَى‬/َ2َ‫] ﺕ‬
َ T‫َء َرﺏ‬P ‫ي‬
T َ9َِ4
55. Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about?

٥٦ &َ‫ُو‬9ْ‫ ِر ا‬Jُ i‫ َ ا‬T ٌ7$ِJَ‫َا ﻥ‬Jَ‫ه‬

56. This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old!

٥٧ Nُ َ4‫ ِز‬fْ‫ْ ا‬oَ4‫َأ ِز‬

57. The (Judgment) ever approaching draws nigh:

 ٥٨ ٌNَIِ-َ‫ آ‬.ِ 0‫ن ا‬
ِ ‫ ََ ِ دُو‬b
َ ْAَ
58. No (soul) but Allah can lay it bare.

٥٩ ‫ن‬
َ َُْ[َ‫ ﺕ‬u
ِ $ِ,َjْ‫َا ا‬Jَ‫ِ ْ ه‬/َ4‫َأ‬
59. Do ye then wonder at this recital?

٦٠ ‫ن‬
َ َُْ‫ن َوَ ﺕ‬
َ َُjْvَ‫َوﺕ‬
60. And will ye laugh and not weep --

٦١ ‫ن‬
َ ‫ُو‬,َِ3 ْ
ُ2‫َوأَﻥ‬
61. Wasting your time in vanities?

٦٢ ‫ُوا‬,ُْ!‫ وَا‬.ِ 0ِ ‫ُوا‬,ُْ3َ4

62. But fall ye down in prostration to Allah, and adore (Him)!
