6th Sunday of Easter
Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
Ma. Rosario Rote-Tejada
I
am the Living Bread that
came down from Heaven;
whoever eats this bread will
live forever; and the bread that I
will give is my flesh for the life of
the world. (Jn 6:51)
We celebrate today the
Solemnity of the Most Holy Body
and Blood of Christ.
After Adam and Eve were
driven out of Paradise because
of Sin, God promised to send
a Redeemer to save the world.
This is no other than His only
Begotten Son, Who died for our
sins to restore our dignity as
children of God. His passion
death and resurrection is
commemorated in the Most Holy
Sacrifice of the Mass, wherein
during the Consecration, the
bread is transformed into
the Body of Christ and the
wine into His Blood to be our
spiritual nourishment. We are
encouraged to keep ourselves
in the State of Grace so that we
may partake of this Meal that
nourishes our souls.
We are all members of the
Mystical Body of Christ. Each of
us has a task to perform to keep
this Body going or make this
Body accomplish its mission.
Just like our human body,
each part has its function. What
happens if a certain part of our
body is not fit or healthy to do its
job? This is where pain comes
in. We get sick.
We have to rest or get
ourselves treated to restore it to
its fit state. We have to take care
of our body; we have to keep it
healthy. We must refrain from
vices and bad habits if we are to
Let Change Begin with Me
Let Change Begin with Me
preserve our health.
In our own families and
communities where all are
members, we have a duty to keep
ourselves attuned with the rules.
To these, we are all members.
These were made to make us live in
harmony with one another. These
would also guide us to realize the
purpose of our existence.
What happens if one of the
members of our community
is sick? This is not far from
happening. Sickness here would
not only mean physical sickness
but would also include sickness in
any of mans dimension social,
spiritual, moral, psychological.
Each of us must be conscious
to keep ourselves good, in all
dimensions of our person, and
thereby become a good member or
part of our community.
As members of the Mystical
Body of Christ, we have to start the
change in ourselves.
This year, to celebrate the
Solemnities of the Corpus Christi
and the Sacred Heart of Jesus, our
Parish held the Magagmay nga
Kristianong Katilingban Day or
MKK Day on June 21, 2014. This
is one example wherein each
individual person, as one member
of the community, is valuable and
important in the realization of our
Parish Vision and Mission.
We want peace? Let peace
begin with me. We want love? Let
love begin with me. If we demand
that people respect us, we should
respect ourselves first.
So, let us keep ourselves good
and healthy to build a good and
healthy community. All these must
begin with you and me.

ANG IKALIMA NGA SUGO
Indi ka magpatay! (Ex. 20:13; Dt. 5:17)
J
une is traditionally dedicated to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Catechism of
the Catholic Church says, Jesus knew
and loved us each and all during his life...
For this reason, the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
pierced by our sins and for our salvation...
rightly considered the chief sign and symbol
of love with which the Divine Redeemer
continually loves the eternal Father and all
human beings without exception (478).
The Sacred Heart devotion took many
forms among the laitys prayer-life from
the Morning-Offering, monthly First-
Friday Masses, Family-Enthronements,
Eucharistic-Adorations, consecrations,
reparations, and novenas.
Origin
This devotion became popular in the
17th century in France when a Visitandine
nun, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
received visions of the Sacred Heart.
With the guidance and help of St. Claude
la Colombiere, a holy and experienced
missionary-priest, the devotion spread
beyond borders and was approved by the
Church.
Sacred Heart & the Popes
Holy Father Pope Francis recently said
the Heart of Jesus is the ultimate symbol
of Gods mercy but it is not an imaginary
symbol, it is a real symbol, which represents
T
he Solemnity of the Corpus Christi or
the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
reminds us of two important things.
First, the Real and the Substantial Presence
of Christ in the Eucharist; and second, the
Church as the Mystical Body of Christ.
Our absolute belief that Jesus is
sacramentally present in the Holy Eucharist
can form and influence, by Gods grace, our
attitudes and behavior when we are in the
Mass or when we are inside the Church. Jesus
is no ordinary person, and in knowing and
believing that He is truly with us in the Mass,
we thereby learn to show reverence and
respect to Him, and we do this by maintaining
the atmosphere of silence andprayer. We show
gestures of respect like making the Sign of the
Cross upon entering the Church, genuflecting
before sitting in the pews we have chosen and
kneeling when it is about proper to do so.

of us get distracted because of using our

Referring to the Sacred Heart devotion,
Pope Emeritus, Benedict VXI believed that,
When we practice this devotion, not only
do we recognize Gods love with gratitude
but we continue to open ourselves to this
love so that our lives are ever more closely
patterned upon it. God, who poured out his
love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit
Who has been given to us (cf. Rom 5: 5),
invites us tirelessly to accept His love
Holy Father-turned-Saint, St. John Paul
II mentioned that In the Heart of Christ,
mans heart learns to know the genuine and
unique meaning of his life and of his destiny,
to understand the value of an authentically
Christian life, to keep himself from certain
perversions of the human heart, and to
unite the filial love for God and the love of
neighbor.
A Loving Invitation
Devotions and other forms of pietys
primary role is to draw the laity back to
the Liturgy of the Church (Holy Eucharist
and the Sacraments). The Devotion to the
Sacred Heart is loving and gentle invitation
that calls us back to the Sacrament of
Reconciliation and subsequently, Sacrament
of the Eucharist.
Referring to the Sacrament of
Reconciliation, the Catechism says: The
Lord Jesus Christ, physician of our souls
and bodies, who forgave the sins of the
paralytic and restored him to bodily health,
has willed that his Church continue, in
the power of the Holy Spirit, his work of
healing and salvation, even among her own
members (1421).
According to the Catechism ... the
sacrament of Reconciliation with God,
brings about a true spiritual resurrection,
restoration of the dignity and blessings of the
life of the children of God, of which the most
precious is friendship with God (1468)
From the Sacrament of Reconciliation,
the Sacred Heart of Jesus urges us to partake;
at the Lords table; The Sacrament of Holy
Eucharist.
Catechism says The Eucharist is the
source and summit of the Christian life.
For in the blessed Eucharist is contained
the whole spiritual good of the Church,
namely Christ himself... and according to
Catechism [1331] by this sacrament we
unite ourselves to Christ, who makes us
sharers in his Body and Blood to form a
single body (1324)
In this month of June, as we fervently
offer our prayers to the Sacred Heart of
Jesus may our faith, hope, and love deepen
and make us faithful partakers of the
Sacraments and active participants of the
Liturgy of the Church through love of the
Sacred Heart.
not urgentwhen many of us have utilized
the Church as a place of dating the
challenge is on us, ministers, to evangelize
even more our people that they should
believe in the Real Presence of the Lord
in the Eucharist; and the challenge is also,
correspondingly, on the faithful to be more
open and humble in order to learn that
this fundamental value of reverence and
respect becomes today even more urgent,
necessary and important.
As Mystical Body of Christ, we realize
that despite our uniqueness and diversity, we
are still one body under our one Head, Jesus
Christ. As one body, we are interconnected.
We have a relationship!
I wonder howhealthy this Body of Christ is!
In our parish life, we may not have
become consistent in making our ministries
sustainable. We have our own share of ups
and downs.
Recently, we have been confronted with
scandals in the Church. The faithful in some
parishes are divided. There is a lack of dialogue
between the priests and the parishioners.
For some government officials, there is
a lack of oneness in promoting the common
good because of some selfish interests. Graft
and corruption is still prevalent.
Abroad, conflict and violence continue
to persist in Syria and in other parts of the
Middle East and many more
If we are conscious of our own health
as an individual, that we would do some
exercise when we feel that we are gaining
weight or that we would buy and take some
medicines when we feel that we are getting
sick, do we also take time to think and feel
how healthy is this Body of Christ and do
something when this Church where we
belong is not in good shape?
As wehaveconcretelyfelt andexperienced
Christs presence in the Eucharist, may we
bring His presence wherever we go. We cant
remain numb. As we have a relationship
with one another, all of us are affected by our
actions. May we not bring harmto this Church
we love but rather bring good in order that this
Church, the Body of Christ, will be holier and
healthier as God desires it to be.

O
n June 26 the Church celebrates the
liturgical memorial of Saint Josemara
Escriva. This celebration takes on a
special significance in the Year of the Laity
in which the Church reminds ordinary
Filipino Catholics: You have been called
to be saints; you are sent forth as heroes!
Can ordinary people be saints?
The traditional notion is that holiness
was primarily the call of a select few, such as
priests or nuns. As for lay people, holiness was
commonly associated with participating in
Church rituals such as novenas, processions,
etc, or by their working in the Church, as in
the case of lay ministers.
The traditional setup was prevalent
within the Church when in 1928 a 26 year-
old priest, Josemaria Escriva, experienced
a vision for a mobilization of Christians
disposed to sacrifice themselves with joy for
others, sanctifying every upright work.
On October 6, 2002 St. John Paul II
declared Msgr. Escriva a saint. On that
occasion, the Pope said: St. Josemara was
chosen by the Lord to announce the universal
call to holiness and to point out that daily life,
or ordinary activities, is a path to holiness.
One could say that he was the saint of
ordinary life. In fact, he was convinced that
for those who live with a perspective of faith,
everything is an opportunity to meet God,
everything can be an incentive for prayer
Holiness is truly within everyones reach.
Everyone called to holiness
In his homily on love for the Church, St.
Josemaria said: As Christian faithful, priests
and lay people share one and the same
condition, for God our Lord has called us to
the fullness of charity which is holiness...
There is no such thing as second-class
holiness... God invites everyone; each person
can become holy in his own state in life.
St. Josemaria, the founder of Opus Dei,
which means Work of God, saw that it was
possible for us to become saints, not in spite
of our daily work, but precisely through it,
whatever it happened to be, from engineers
to construction workers, from doctors to
teachers, from students to cooks to house
helpers, etc.
The secret to holiness
To fulfil such arigorous mission -St. John
Paul II explains St. Josemarias teaching- one
needs constant interior growth nourished
by prayerwhich he considered to be an
extraordinary weapon to redeemthe world.
He always recommended: in the first place
prayer; then expiation; in the third place, but
very much in third place, action. It is not a
paradox but a perennial truth: the fruitfulness
of the apostolate lies above all in prayer and
in intense and constant sacramental life. This,
in essence, is the secret of the holiness and
the true success of the saints.
The Solemn Mass for St. Josemaras
feast will be held on June 26, 2014, 6.15
pm, in the National Shrine of Our Lady
of Candles (Jaro Cathedral) where St.
Josemarias image is venerated. For

ast June 14 and 15, the
Ministry of Readers had a
Seminar for New Lectors and
Commentators and an Updating
for the old members. This was
facilitated by the Jaro Archdiocesan
Commission on Liturgy.
Fr. Julius Almeria was the
resource person during the first
day. He asked the old lectors how
they have grown in their spiritual
life and howhad God work in them
as proclaimers of the Word of God.
Fr. Almeria explained that
Liturgy is a public worship which
our Redeemer as Head of the
Church renders to the Father. As
Christians, we have to participate
and be involved in the life of
the Church. As lectors, we have
to perform our duties fully and
faithfully, aware that we are
proclaiming God Whom we are
serving, so we are called to give
our best. He further, said that our
Liturgy here on earth is only a
foretaste of the Liturgy in Heaven,
and thus before proclaiming the
Word of God, let us pray and reflect
on howthe Word of God affects us.
Liturgy is a source of ones sanctity,
it deepens our growth spiritually
and as lectors we must be willing to

the principle behind
the constant updating of our

Last June 18, at 5 to 7
oclock in the evening, Fr. Joenick
Territorio started conducting
his weekly input to all parish
school catechists. He discussed
the Theology of the Body. On this
session, he discussed about its
historical background.
The updating was attended
by 15 catechists. This activity was
held at the Candle Light Office.

On the second day, Mr. Ramon
Astorga talked about the qualifications
of a good reader. He also talked about
concrete techniques for public reading
and others. According to him, one of
the most sensitive ministries is the
Ministry of Readers. A reader should
be a man or woman of prayer and
has established a special intimacy
with Christ. As the reader serves an
important liturgical role inproclaiming
the Word of God, it is necessary that
he or she not only be suited for the
task, but also prepares himself/herself
carefully for the service to God and the
Church. Thedignityof thetasknaturally
requires that readers reflect exemplary
conduct and receive a certain amount
of education. Mr. Astorga recommends
that a reader should read his/her
readings one week before, have it
duplicated and read it several times,
reading silently toget the thought, then
practicereadingorally. He/Shecanalso
practice reading before a mentor who
checks the phrasing and pronunciation

He added that COMMITMENT is
very important, so with TIME.
If many things pre-occupy
you, never be a reader. A speaking
style of the reader that is audible,

The best use of inflection, pause,

careful preparation and training.
Knowledge of the literary forms
of a passage is prerequisite for
good reading. It is necessary to

Check the microphone, watch the

the microphone is working, scratch
it gently once with your fingernail

reminders given us by Bro. Ramon.
Practicum followed for those

Kristo. Ini Iya ginhambal bilang
metaphor nga ang Simbahan isa
ka lawas kon sa diin Sia ang Ulo
kag kita ang lawas. Kag sa sini
nga Lawas may nagakalain-lain
nga parte ukon bahin nga may
kaugalingon nga katungdanan.
Amo ina nga sa Simbahan may
pari, relihiyoso kag layko.
Pamangkot
1. Paano ko mapakita kag
mapahangup sa buhat nga si
Jesus ara na sa akon tungod
sa akon pagbaton sa Iya sa
Santos nga Pagkalawat?
2. Ginapaambit ko bala sa
iban ang akon kaugalingon
nga pagkaKristiano paagi
sa pagpakig-bahin sa mga
hilikuton sang MKK?
51
Ako amo ang buhi nga
tinapay nga naghalin sa langit.
Ang bisan sin-o nga magkaon
sini nga tinapay magakabuhi sing
dayon, kag ang tinapay nga akon
ihatag amo ang akon unod, nga
akon ginahatag para sa kabuhi
sang kalibutan
52
Amo ini ang ginsugoran
sang mainit nga pagbinaisay sang
mga Judio. Nagsiling sila, Paano
bala ang paghatag sini nga tawo
sa aton sang iya unod agud aton
kaunon?
53
Si Jesus nagsiling sa ila,
nagasiling ako sa inyo sang
matuod, kon indi kamo magkaon
sang unod sang Anak sang
Tawo kag mag-inom sang iya
dugo wala kamo sang kabuhi sa
inyo kaugalingon.
54
Ang bisan
sin-o nga nagakaon sang akon
unod kag nagainom sang akon
dugo may kabuhi nga wala sing
katapusan kag banhawon ko sia
sa katapusan nga adlaw.
55
Kay
ang akon unod amo ang matuod
Si Jesus amo ang Tinapay kag Kabuhi
