    The FDT Group was formed in 2003 by several automation companies to establish an open standard for device configuration using Field Device Tool (FDT) technology. FDT uses Device Type Managers (DTMs) which are device drivers that provide full device functionality and are compatible with any FDT frame application, regardless of communication protocol or device type. The FDT/DTM technology allows configuration of devices on a network through DTMs connected to communication DTMs and a frame application, providing an open solution for multi-vendor device management.
