Objectives
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. (Incorporate at least four quality
images (Not including the logo). One should be clipped in
Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows
the cutout shape of the image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three
paragraphs, headers, and sub headers.
Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.
Process
I set up my design in InDesign I split it up into three sections
so I knew my fold and margin boundaries. Then I created the
front and back of the brochure, next using Adobe Illustrator
I created a logo for the Berkley Kite Wranglers and placed
it on the back of the brochure. Then I created the inside of
the brochure. I used two pictures as my background lowering
their opacity so that the words would stand out. Then I went
into Adobe Photoshop and grabbed a picture of three of the
Kite Wranglers I cut them out using a selection tool and a
masking tool, then I increased the pixels of the picture. Next
I placed it on my brochure and created a text warp so that the
words would go around the picture. Then on the outside strip
I placed three pictures and colored the background blue.

Objectives
Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company
or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not
imitate existing logos or use previous designs.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No
Illustrator pre-fabricated f lares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live
tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it
with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo
appeals most to them.
Process
These were fun logos to create in Illustrator, first I took the
rounded rectangle tool and made shapes for my words and
separated them with a line. The next logo was a little more
complicated. I created a small engine out of shapes, I also looked
up some simple engine designs on the internet so I wouldnt be
completely lost. Then I made a rail road sign with the companies
initials and the established date. I changed the fonts for some
contrast.

Objectives
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the
long side is 300 500 pixels.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and
how it appeals to a target audience. (Minimum of 200 words.
Include rationale for colors, appeal to target audience, design
skills, etc,)
Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content.
(Use TextWrangler (Macintosh) or NotePad++ (Windows))
Identify hex colors for web design. (Find and use hex colors in
Photoshop to match your logo)
Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.
Open your HTML page in a web browser, and capture a quality
screen shot with .5 inch margins for printing. (See tutorial
below.) See the sample projects on this page as examples (contains
3 files: .css file; linked logo .png; .html file of web page.)
Process
I created the HTML for this project in TextWrangler and I used
http://www.W3.org to validate my web page. Then I created a
CSS document in TextWrangler. I used colors from my logo to
use for the background and title headings so that they would
match. Then I changed the typography to add interest. I also
repositioned my logo to be center left instead of far left to make
it align with the text. Then I took a screenshot of my webpage
and used InDesign to make a .5 margin around the edges.

Objectives
Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work
together)
Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your
message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any
Adobe programs, including Photoshop.
Process
First I scanned an image of Darth Vader and inserted it into
a Microsoft Word document. I added the orange triangles
for repetition and I wanted the triangles to lead my readers
through the f lier. I also made a box around Vader to help
him stand out as he redirects the audience to the message
and the time date and place of the event.

.125 Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and
plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, and email on
each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no
parentheses/ hyphens.

Process
When creating the letterhead I placed the logo on the top of the
page and I made sure that it was .5 away from the edge of the
page. I also added a watermark at the bottom of the page. I made
sure it was 1% opacity, I also made sure that it was properly placed
on the page so that there would be enough space for a letter.

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic f lier layout.
Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document
to keep links in InDesign intact.
Process
First I sketched my designs and I used the sketches as a guide to
design the f lier in Adobe InDesign. I used the three boxes to help
the readers eyes f low through the piece leading them from the
title to the logo. I faded the bottom of the photo to help the boxes
stand out. I kept a lot of white space to keep the readers focus
on the message. I kept the body copy small, and grouped so its
easy for the readers to get through it quickly. I was given the logo,
images and content for this f lier.

Select good quality images
Process
I selected a 8.5x11image and cropped the edges. I made the
background black and white but kept the peace sign colorful. I
selected the picture of the Summer of Love, cropped it and placed
it at the top. using a mask at 100% opacity I removed the windows
and made the edges softer at 30% opacity. With the text I added
effects with strode, and Bevel and Emboss also coloring the words a
yellow gold color.

Objectives
Learn basic photography skills.
Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, and
then incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, and then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on
separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.
Use layers to design text,
Repeate graphic elements in Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins.
Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.
Process
I close a color scheme from the Visual FOCUS book, I decided on
Monochromatic. Then I went to capture a picture with good light,
sharp focus and composition. I used my dads Canon EOS 5D
Mark 3. Then, on photoshop I measured the light, color, sharpness
and saturation. Then I decided on an 8.5x11 layout that included
my photo, text, and design elements. I found a poem that was
made the year that was written the year the Golden Gate Bridge
was opened and incorporated it in my design. I used the shapes to
attract my audiences eyes to the top and gravitate to the bottom.
