My complete Name is Basinang, Rommel F., 36 years old. I was born at the 7 th of September 1977. I live in San Jose, Tacloban City, Leyte, one of the worst hit areas of Super typhoon Haiyan. I am applying for a work permit in Canada. My uncle and his family are living in Vancouver, Canada for quite a long time now. I work as a police officer in the Philippines. 2 days before typhoon Haiyan made landfall, we started evacuating residents from Javier, Leyte. On the 8 th of November 2013, my team and I were still in Javier, Leyte. After Haiyan made havoc in Leyte, I used my motorcycle to go back to my place. I was able to reach home on the 10 th of November 2013. I first went to my mothers house and there I saw my wife. I asked my wife where our baby is and my mother interrupted and told me My son, the water was just too high. Our house was completely submerged and even reached the 2 nd floor of the house next to us. I understood what she meant and i wept real hard. 2 days have passed and the body of my daughter was not yet recovered. My father and relatives searched for her but they failed to do so. On that day I went to our house just a few meters away from my mothers place. I was searching for the body of my baby when I smelled something in the bedroom. I tried to feel what was under the bed and I touched something cold and I immediately ran back to my father and asked him to get it for me. As expected, it was my daughter. My house obtained damaged but not liveable. My parents house were 90% damaged, however, the garage still has some roof for us to take shelter. The following day, my brother who currently works in Cebu came and asked us to transfer temporarily in Cebu. He brought my sister to Cebu first. The rest of us prepared what is left of our house to prevent thieves from coming in. we went to the airport to have a free ride on the C130 planes going to Cebu, but there were too many survivors trying to get a free ride. We decided to go to Ormoc, Leyte and go to Cebu by sea. My uncle and his family from Canada went to Cebu to bring some clothes and food for us. They encouraged us to migrate in Canada to be able to recover fast. We stayed there for a more than a month and returned before Christmas to start rebuilding our home. Currently, I live in our Godmothers house in Tanauan, Leyte
