Android based advertisement transmission system and product search for shopping

Mall

Abstract
Technology is growing rapidly at a very enormous rate, today everything is going wireless and micro,
mobiles phones have become multi utility devices and becoming more like computers now, many of the
tasks which were performed on computers now run on cell phone and Bluetooth technology in phones
is a boon.
Advertising on mobile devices is one of this new needs and has demonstrated to have a large potential
due to the very personal and intimate nature of the devices and the possibility of reaching a broad range
of targets, High rate of growing competition is forcing businesses to explore new ways to reach and
attract their customers, business today do not mind going out of the way to advertise their products,
expensive technologies and methods are adopted to attract large number of customers.
In this project we propose a context-aware pervasive system for advertising in large commercial areas.
This application uses Java and Bluetooth wireless technology making it a very portable system.
We describe the overall architecture and discuss the implementation steps to build our application.

Introduction
Almost every one today uses mobile phone and in last few years mobile phones have evolved to become
smarter and intelligent, today mobiles are not just used to make or receive calls but they come bundled
with variety of other smart products and services which influence our day today life.
Mobile marketing is emerging market where in advertisements are delivered on the mobile phones and
one very common and matured method is via SMS (Short Messaging Service), in this method mobile
users are bombarded with hundreds of advertisement messages by various companies and therefore
mobile users opt for DND (Do Not Disturb) service which blocks all the advertisement SMS.
In this project we focus on developing mobile application for delivering relevant advertisement on the
user cell phone via Bluetooth when the user is out for shopping at shopping mall and user will receive
advertisements only when he wants to.
This will be a mobile application which will be installed on the mobile phone and once the user is in the
shopping mall he can start the application and once started the application will start displaying the best
offers and deals in each of the stores at shopping mall.
To personalize the shopping experience the user can choose which type of advertisements or offers he
wants to receive. I.e. if a user is out to buy cloths then he can choose to receive only advertisements
related to cloths, the companies can deliver context-aware advertisement to the users.
To provide the user with more customized service and save time this application will also have a feature
where in if the user is looking to buy a specific item then he can search for the same through this
application and the application will tell the user which shop in the mall has that item, its price and where
it is kept so that user can directly go and pick it if its in his budget without having to enquiring about the
availability and price.
At times it we feel if we could find weather a specific item is available in the shopping mall or no before
going all the way there to find or how wonderful would it be if user can know the best offers whenever
they arrive so user can directly go and avail that offer, to cater this need the application will also have a
web-interface which can be accessed via mobile phones GPRS from anywhere in the world hence even
if the user is not present at the shopping mall he can still access the service via GPRS.

Hardware and Software Requirements

Hardware Requirements

The following are the hardware requirements for this application:

Processor : PC with Intel Pentium IV Processor or Above
RAM : 1 GB
Hard Disk : 40 GB
Operating System : Android2.2 or higher, XP with Service Pack 2 or more

Software Requirements:

The following are the Requirements for the software:

Language : Java, Xml
Data Base : MYSQL 5.1
Development Tools : Eclipse IDE, Android SDK

IDE and TOOLS

Eclipse IDE

Eclipse is a multi-language software development comprising an integrated development
environment (IDE) and an extensible plug-in system. It is written mostly in java and can be used to
develop application in java and, by means of various plug-ins, other programming languages including
Ada, C, C++, COBOL, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, and scheme. The IDE is often called Eclipse ADT for Ada,
Eclipse, CDT for C/C++, Eclipse JDT for java, and Eclipse PDT for PHP.
The initial codebase originated from VisualAge. In its default from it is meant for java
developers, consisting of the Java Development Tools (JDT). Users can extend its abilities by installing
plug-ins written for the eclipse software framework, such as development toolkit for other programming
languages, and can write and contribute their own plug-in module.

Android SDK

Google provides Android Software Development Kit to aid developers in producing Android
applications. It consists of APIs that enable easy interaction with devices hardware(button, touch screen
,compass, GPS etc.) and operating system. It also includes a plug-in for Eclipse IDE that enables easy
debugging and simulation of the written application.
