Riverside Police Make Weapons Arrest after Traffic Stop
Officer finds loaded handgun during traffic stop
On Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 9:23 p.m., a Riverside police officer stopped a white BMW which was
traveling eastbound on Ogden approaching Harlem. It was clocked at 47 miles per hour in 30 miles per
hour zone. The vehicle was stopped by the officer at Harlem and Ogden.
When the officer made contact with the driver, he immediately smelled a burnt odor of cannabis emitting
from the vehicle. When he asked the driver if he had been smoking cannabis, he denied that he had any
marijuana on him. After he was once again told that the officer could smell the burnt cannabis, he said he
had been smoking a cannabis laced cigar. He was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.
When asked if there were any other drugs or weapons in the vehicle, he stated there was not. There was
a passenger in the vehicle and he was removed for the officers safety.
While the officer was searching the car prior to a tow, he located a fully loaded 9 millimeter Charles Daly
semiautomatic pistol in the glove box. The glove box was not locked. Both subjects were taken into
custody. Additionally, officers found clear plastic baggies containing cannabis both directly outside the
vehicle on the street and in the vehicle. It was later determined that the driver had dropped the cannabis
from his pants pocket in an attempt to avoid being arrested for the drug charge.
The passenger stated he was only in the United States for four days (from Ukraine) before being stopped
by the Riverside Police. He was not charged with any crime. The subject arrested (the driver) had no valid
FOID card, concealed carry card or any legal permission to carry the loaded firearm. Additionally, he lied
to the officers when they first asked him if there were any weapons in the vehicle.
Riverside Police charged Dusan Nikodijevic, 28 of Long Beach, California for one count of felony UVW
and possession of cannabis and traffic charges. Mr. Nikodijevic was held over for bond hearing and the
vehicle he was driving was confiscated by Riverside Police.
