various faith-based or-
ganizations, Christians
and other faith denomina-
tions alike, joined hands in

call for the Repeal of the Automatic Appro-
priations on Debt Service.
• The 2007 Philippine Sabbath Year Campaign
aims to continue what has been started
seven years earlier and go beyond. It is a
comprehensive debt campaign to be led by a
strong faith-based constituency that will fo-
cus on the moral dimen-
sion of debt and how this
is related to the concept
of illegitimacy of debt.
International Debt Campaign
The Jubilee Year 2000
Global Debt Campaign
intensified and popu-
larized the involvement
of faith-based sector on the debt issue. The
Campaign pursued a collective push for debt
relief and policy reforms directed to lending
institutions and governments to demand an
end to the debt bondage.
With concerted efforts coming from different
parts of the world, the Campaign succeeded
in putting the debt issue as a main agenda in
the discourse of poverty reduction. Thus,
debt relief initiatives were developed such as
the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC)
and the Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative
(MIDRI). Moreover, it paved the way for a
strong global movement on
the debt involving cam-
paigners from the South
and North.
Faith-based Congress Against Immoral
Debts (FCAID Network)
FCAID was founded on October 15, 2007 in
a “faith-based unity congress” attended by
various faith-based groups and individuals
in agreement with the basic calls of the
event.
FCAID is the lead implementor of the Philip-
pine Sabbath Year Campaign and likewise a
joint project with the Freedom from Debt
Coalition.
The general thrusts of the project is to:
• build a strong faith-based network
• promote & popularize the moral dimen-
sion of the debt issue
• push for concrete policy reforms on the
