This document provides instruction for configuring Apple Mail to communicate with your Apptix hosted email account.

AppleMailConfigurationInstructions
TheseinstructionsshowhowtoconfigureAppleMailonMacintoshcomputerswithOSXversion10.6or
higher.BeforeproceedingwithAppleMailconfiguration,itshouldbenotedthatMicrosoftEntouragefor
MacisnolongerneededtoworkwithApptixsMicrosoftExchangebasedserversthecombinationof
AppleMail,iCal,andAddressBookprovidesimilarfunctionalityastheEntouragesoftware.
AppleMailcanbeconfiguredtoworkwithApptixthroughtheExchangeservicethisisselectedwhen
youfirstbeginconfiguringAppleMail.WithpreviousversionsofMac,athirdpartyapplication(i.e.,
Entourage)wasrequiredtoconnecttoExchangebasedsystems.Now,withMacOSX10.6SnowLeopardor
higherOS,supportforallofthefeaturesandfunctionalityofExchangeServer2007inbuiltin.
BeforeconfiguringAppleMail,ensurethatyouhavealreadycreatedtheusermailbox/emailaddresswithin
theApptixOnDemandwebbasedaccountcontrolpanel.TheAppleMailclientutilizesExchangeWeb
Services(EWS),whichispartoftheOutlookWebAccess(OWA)feature.TheOWAaccessmustbeenabled
whencreatingthemailbox(seescreenbelowshowingOWAandActiveSyncenabledforthisexample
mailbox)).

IfyouhavenotpreviouslyrunAppleMailorconfiguredanemailaccount:
1. YouwillbepromptedwiththeWelcometoMailwindowbelowwhenyoufirstrunAppleMail.This
wizardwillguideyouthroughsettingupyourfirstemailaccountafteryouclicktheContinuebutton.
IfyoudonotseethewizardaboveorhavepreviouslyusedAppleMail:
RunAppleMailandgotothePreferencesmenuandthenclicktheAccountsiconasshowninthepicture
below.Thenclickthe+symbol/buttononthebottomleftofthewindow.

2. YoushouldnowbeattheNewAccountwindowasshownbelow.Enteryourfullname,emailaddress
andpasswordofyourApptixExchangeaccount.ClicktheContinuebutton.
3. ExchangeAutodiscoverwillgatherthenecessaryinformationfromtheserverandfinishthe
configuration.Note,inorderforAutodiscovertofunctionproperly,yourNetworkAdministratorshould
haveconfiguredanautodiscover.yourdomainname.comentryintoyourDNSservicepleasecontact
youradministratorformoreinformation.
4. IftheExchangeAutodiscoverservicedoesnotautomaticallyconfiguretheclientsettings,youwillhave
tocompletethestepsbelowtocompletetheclientsetup.

IfyouhavenotpreviouslyrunAppleMailorconfiguredanemailaccount:
1. YouwillbepromptedwiththeWelcometoMailwindowbelowwhenyoufirstrunAppleMail.This
wizardwillguideyouthroughsettingupyourfirstemailaccountafteryouclicktheContinuebutton.
IfyoudonotseethewizardaboveorhavepreviouslyusedAppleMail:
RunAppleMailandgotothePreferencesmenuandthenclicktheAccountsiconasshowninthepicture
below.Thenclickthe+symbol/buttononthebottomleftofthewindow.


2. Fromthepulldownmenu,chooseExchange2007.
3. Enteradescriptionfortheaccount(forexample,WorkorExchange).
4. EnterthefullyqualifieddomainnamefortheorganizationsExchangeClientAccessServer(CAS).The
defaultforApptixusersismail.hostaccount.comasshownbelow.NotethattheCASdoesntnecessarily
sharethesameaddressastheOutlookWebAccess(OWA)Serveralthoughtheyoftendo.HTTP
prefixesarenotrequired.


5. EntertheExchangeusernameandpassword.Theusernameisthefullemailaddress.
6. MakesuretheAddressBookandiCalcheckboxesareselectedtoautomaticallysetupthose
applications.Ifthesearenotselected,youcanmanuallyconfiguretheseapplicationslater.


7. Asummaryofthesettings,seebelow,willappear.
8. Onceyoucompletetheaccountconfigurationandoptionallyanyimportoflegacydata,themain
windowforAppleMailshoulddisplay(asshownbelow).AnyemailcontainedinyourApptixaccount
willbesynchronizedintoyourInbox(orotherfolders).

AdditionalsettingsfortheAppleMailclientcanalsobeconfigured.FromtheAccountsPane,number1
above,youcanmodifytheaccountinformation(emailaddress,password,etc.):

AccountsPane:

Normally,iCalwillbeautomaticallyconfiguredtoutilizeExchangeifyoufirstconfiguredAppleMailas
describedabove.IfyouneedorwishtoconfigureiCalmanually,followthesesteps:
1. FromtheAccountsPaneintheiCalapplicationenteradescriptionforthecalendar.


3. Usethepulldownmenutochoosethecalendarrefreshrate.
4. FromtheServerSettingstab,enterthefullyqualifieddomainnamefortheorganizationsExchange
ClientAccessServer(CAS).(Forexample,exchange01.example.com,notexchange01)Notethatthe
CASdoesntnecessarilysharethesameaddressastheOutlookWebAccess(OWA)Serveralthough

5. TheServerpathshouldbe/EWS/Exchange.asmx
6. CheckUseSSL,ifthisisnotalreadyselected.


7. UsetheDelegationtabtograntotherusersaccesstoyourcalendar.
8. Yourdefaultcalendarwillappearandresemblethecalendarbelow,dependingonyourview.

Normally,AddressBookwillbeautomaticallyconfiguredtoutilizeExchangeifyoufirstconfiguredApple
Mailasdescribedabove.IfyouneedorwishtoconfigureAddressBookmanually,followthesesteps:
1. FromtheAccountsPaneintheAddressBookapplicationenteradescriptionforthecontacts.


3. Usethepulldownmenutochoosethecontactsrefreshrate.
4. FromtheServerSettingstab,enterthefullyqualifieddomainnamefortheorganizationsExchange
ClientAccessServer(CAS).(Forexample,exchange01.example.com,notexchange01)Notethatthe
CASdoesntnecessarilysharethesameaddressastheOutlookWebAccess(OWA)Serveralthough
