Michelangelo

Imagine this. Youre standing in a gallery filled with breathtaking artwork such
as sculptures and paintings. But who made them? They all were created by the
one and only: Michelangelo. As an artist he was unmatched, the creator of works
of sublime beauty that express the full breadth of the human condition.
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, or just Michelangelo to most, was
a brilliant artist on many levels. His interests included sculpting, painting,
architecture, and several more. He had created numerous pieces of art, and was
an idol to many. He went through many periods of art in history. Some of them
included the Italian Renaissance, High Renaissance, and Renaissance.
Michelangelo was born in Tuscany, Italy on March 6, 1475. His childhood was
always grim and lacking in affection. To pass the time, he would practice light
sketches and write poetry. As the years passed, he became more and more
interested in every form of art. The person he was most inspired by was Melozzo
da Forli.

This is Michelangelos sketch for the Sistine Chapel.

When I told my father that I wished to be an artist, he flew into a rage. Artists
are laborers, no better than shoemakers! With Michelangelos dream shot
down, he seeked help from various small-name artists. He then became an
apprentice to many. As an apprentice, he learned helpful tips and methods for
sculpting and other areas of art. He received many commissions for architecture.
Most of them had to do with chapels and tombs. He successfully completed the
commissions of these famous sites: The Medici Chapel, the tomb of Giuliano, and
the tomb of Lorenzo Medici.
Michelangelo exerted an unparalleled influence on the development of
Western art. As Michelangelo grew older, he accomplished several thousand
works. His most well-known pieces were:
1) Statue of David
2) Madonna of the Steps
3) Taddeo Tondo of 1502
4) Doni Tondo
5) Kneeling Angel
6) Slave collection: Dying, Rebellious, Bound slaves
He also painted phenomenal ceiling pieces in chapels. His nature was so rough
and uncouth that his domestic habits were incredibly squalid, and deprived
posterity or any pupils who might have followed him. Paolo Giovio.
Michelangelo lived a long and fulfilling life full of riches, commissions, and loved
ones. Unfortunately, he died on February 18, 1564 and aged 88 years old.
In conclusion, Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarotti Simoni had an incredible
life. He was extremely successful and inspired others around him. Because of his
well paying commissions, he became very rich. Surprisingly, he remained humble
and only lived up to his necessities. Michelangelo was considered to be the
greatest living artist in the 16
th
century. His art made an impact to society and the
glorious world of art.
