Generalization: the body is made up of organs which help it to function.

Concepts: heart, lungs, kidneys, stomach, brain, muscles, intestines

Objectives:

List the names of some internal parts of the body.

Identify some internal and external organs on a model.

Label diagrams to show some internal and external organs of a body.

State at least one function of some internal organs (heart, lungs, brain, kidney,
stomach.)

Discuss the effect that if would have on the body if any of the internal organs was
missing.

Discuss the effects that it would have on the body if any of the internal organs were to
malfunction.

Manipulate a model to correctly place the internal organs in their correct positions.

Set Induction:

The students will review what they would have done during the previous lesson.

The students will be asked to identify the models on the table. (a model of the human
heart and a model of the internal organs of the human body.

Learning Experiences:

The students will be given an opportunity to manipulate the model. They will take
then apart and put them back together stating the name of each organ that they are
replacing. As they engage in this activity, as a class they will discuss the importance
of each organ and what would happen if any of them were missing.

The students will also discuss how they can keep their bodies healthy and all of their
internal organs functioning the way that they are meant to. This discussion will be
guided by the questions asked by the students along with further probing questions
being asked by the teacher. The booklets that accompany the models will be used to
aid the students during the discussion.

Assessment Procedures:

Students will be assessed based on their ability to label correctly the diagram of the
internal organs of the human body.

Closure:

Students will close the lesson by reviewing what they would have done during the
lesson and how they will use the new information that they would have gained.
