THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

Sometimes I think, What will people say of me when I'm
only just a memory?
When I'm home where my soul belongs, was I love?
When no one else would show up, was I Jesus to the
least of those?
Was my worship more than just a song?

I want to live like that and give it all I have,
So that everything I say and do points to You.

If love is who I am then this is where I'll stand;
Recklessly abandoned, never holding back.

I want to live like that.

Am I proof that You are who you say You are?
That grace can really change a heart. Do I live like Your
love is true?

People pass, and even if they don't know my name,
Is there evidence that I've been changed?
When they see me, do they see You?

I want to show the world the love You gave for me.
I'm longing for the world to know the glory of the King.

I want to live like that.

The above words from the Christian music group,
Sidewalk Prophets, challenges the very core of our
spiritual being. It calls into question whether the world
sees evidence that we have truly changed. Is there
evidence that we look beyond our self-interests and
seize opportunities to bring glory to God by serving our
fellow man.

May we love others more than self. May we be the
hands and feet of Jesus, fulfilling our calling. Let us
follow the example of our Lord who came to serve, not to
be served. I want to live like that! Do you?

In His Service,

Brad
BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

PERSONAL NOTE: Last Sunday morning I used
the platform to remind all of you of some special
needs we have here at Fifth Avenue. Our annual
nominating committee is now in place and we will
be seeking candidates for leadership. I am asking
that you pray about your potential for service. The
other matter is our Sunday morning nursery. We
really need volunteers to care for the little folk
during worship. If you can volunteer, see Kathryn
Albertson or one of our Elders.

KEENAGERS TRIP IN JULY: On Wednesday, of
this week (July 30), we will be traveling to visit
historic Zoar Village. This village was settled in
1817 by German Separatists who came to this
country seeking religious freedom. The village
consists of a number of original residences and
public buildings. We will be learning about the
Zoarites unique religion and history. Cart
transportation, for a limited number, is available for
those who might have difficulty walking. The cost,
per person, is $13. This includes admission and
travel. Lunch will be on your own, at the Manor
Restaurant in Strasburg. Following lunch, we will
make a stop at Yaggis Cheese House which is
located near New Philadelphia. A sign-up sheet is
posted and we still have 5 seats available. Get
your name on and your money in!

MIDWEEK BIBLE STUDIES: Our two study
groups will resume on September 10. Watch for
details.

COMING KEENAGER EVENTS:
-August 27: A trip to Amish Country. We will be
visiting the new David Warther Carvings display,
near Sugarcreek (not to be confused with the
Warther Museum in Dover) and stopping by our
favorite cheese shops. (Watch for details!)
-September 9: The New Horizons Retreat, which is
held annually at the North Terrace Church of Christ
in Zanesville. A sign-up sheet, along with
registration forms, is posted. Complete a
registration form and give it to me, along with your
registration fee. Registration is just $20, if you
register by August 12. (Registration fee includes a
continental breakfast and lunch.)

FINAL THOUGHT: Opportunity knocks but once,
but temptation leans on the doorbell.

We extend our sympathy to the family of
Paul Gilpin who died this week. Paul was
the owner of Pauls Model Shop, located
just up the alley from our church. Over the
years, Paul was a very kind friend to our
church, allowing our use of his parking
area and extending engraving services to us
on a number of special occasions.

Core Values...

Values central to the life, mission and
vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our
music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-
based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our
authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance
Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony &
live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity
of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism,
proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-
Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry
After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to
find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to
serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His
church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of
Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks
a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other
words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change
your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical
marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah
56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).

OUR PURPOSE

WE EXIST TO

Exalt Gods Greatness;
Evangelize Gods Work
Equip Gods People
Express Gods Love through Jesus Christ

OUR MISSION
To Love God and Love
People!
How Can I Respond Today?
At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all
issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear
concerning what a person must do to become a
Christian.
Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation.
Turn (repent) from the sin in your life.
Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord
of your life.
Be baptized (immersed) in water for the
forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy
Spirit into your life.
To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you
come forward during our commitment song at the
conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers
are welcome to become members at FACC by coming
forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior
Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you
complete a series of Curious classes to help you
better understand what you are committing to as a
member. If you would like to take a Curious class,
please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card.

Junior Battles to Be His Best is an I Can
Read! book for young readers. This Veggie
Tales book contains a lesson about self-
confidence. When the Battle of the Bands if
announced, many of Juniors friends plan on
competing. But not Junior! How can he play
his tube in front of everyone? He is not that
good or is he?

Mine Is the Night is a novel for adults by Liz
Curtis Higgs. Stepping from a battered coach
on a rainy April eve, newly widowed Elisabeth
Kerr must begin again, without husband or title,
property or fortune. She is unafraid of work
and gifted with a needle, but how will she stitch
together the tattered remnants of her life?
And who will mend her heart, torn asunder by
betrayal and deception? A worthy hero steps
forward, rekindling a spark of hope. Will he risk
his reputation to defriend a woman labeled a
traiter to the Crown? Or will a wealthy beauty,
untainted by scandal, capture his affections?
This heartrending journey comes to a glorious
finish, in Mine Is the Night, a sparkling gem of
redemption and restoration set in eighteenth-
century Scotland.
