New 42MT Motor Connection Strap Design
for Semi-Solid Link Solenoids
With the goal of continuous improvements, Delco Remy has released a design improvement for the 42MT
Semi-Solid Link Solenoid motor and terminal strap. This improvement minimizes joint relaxation and
potential loss of connection integrity over the life of the starter. The new motor strap design SSL solenoids
are interchangeable on your existing 42MT that incorporates the previous motor strap SSL solenoid design.

SEMI-SOLID LINK SOLENOID DESIGN (See Illustrations 3 & 4)
This solenoid protects your truck from costly stuck contact situations caused by low battery voltage or
other high resistance connections. The Semi-Solid Link (SSL) design is a highly recommended replacement
for the Conventional Design Solenoid on all 37MT, 41MT, 42MT, and 50MT starting motors. Heres how it
works: The link connects the plunger to the contact disc assembly. As the plunger moves to the solenoid
off position, it disconnects the contact disc from the battery and motor terminals with over 1,000 lbs. of
impact force. This is known as the slide hammer effect.

An instruction sheet and new hardware will be included in the package with all 37MT, 41MT and 42 MT Con-
