SRAEL IS carrying out barbaric

slaughter in Gaza. According
to the United Nations, a third
of the dead are children and three
quarters are civilians.
All the talk of diplomacy and ceasefres
has so far simply been camoufage for
escalation of Israels bloody murder.
We need a great wave of protest and
fury. We must continue to take to the
streets in great numbers to demand that
the British government stops backing
Israel, cuts off all arms sales, and imposes
sanctions on Israel.
The attitude of David Camerons
government is so disgusting that Israeli
prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu
praised its moral clarity.
People have marched in the capitals of
European countries and in US cities.
Tens of thousands protested in Chile
and South Africa.
In Syria and Egypt, activists stood
up against Israel even though they had
to take on attacks from their own brutal
governments.
Protests
Among the biggest protests was in
London last Saturday, where 100,000
streamed through the streets.
The battle for the liberation of
Palestine has to be linked to the struggles
by ordinary people in Britain.
The imperialist oppression of Palestine,
and the austerity policies that make
workers pay for the economic crisis, are
two faces of the capitalist system.
The bankers and bosses who fght class
war against workers and the poor here also
back imperialist war abroad.
Thats why we need a revolutionary
socialist alternative to capitalism that can
smash imperialism, tear out the roots of
Islamophobia and racism, and produce a
better world for all.
Let us raise the Palestinian issue in
the trade unions, the workplaces, the
universities, schools and colleges.
When local government workers
strike on 30 September let us be with
them, and lets join the great trade union
demonstration in London on 18 October.
Lets unite for Palestine and against
austerity.

When Israeli forces massacre
Palestinians in Gaza they can count on
help from across the worldincluding
Britain.
A government report on arms
supplies to countries of concern last
year revealed 380 licences to export
military equipment to Israel worth
nearly 8 billion.
Tats not counting weapons sold to
the US that end up in Israel.
As Israeli planes pound Gaza from
above, British rms have licences to
sell components for combat aircraft,
military aero-engines, military
helicopters and technology for drones.
As Israeli warships shell Gazas
beaches, British rms can sell
components for combat naval vessels.
British arms rms dont just sell
to Israel. Tey make good use of the
expertise in killing that Israel has
gainedand advertisedthrough its
attacks on Palestinians.

Keep up the pressure
Boycotts target products and companies
(Israeli and international) that prot
from the violation of Palestinian rights,
as well as Israeli sporting, cultural and
academic institutions.
Divestment means targeting corporations
complicit in the violation of Palestinian
rights and ensuring that the likes of
university investment portfolios and
pension funds are not used to nance
such companies.
Sanctions By calling for sanctions against
Israel we put pressure on our own
government.

Israeli and British arms companies
work closely together, and Britains
military helps pay for Israels slaughter
by buying arms from them.
Te Ministry of Defence awarded
a contract worth nearly 1 billion
to Israeli rm Elbit and its partner
company Tales UK to develop
Watchkeeper WK450 drones.
Tese were among the companies at
the Farnborough International arms fair
which ended last weekend.
David Cameron opened the fair.
He promised to spend an extra 1.1
billion on military equipment as well as
setting up new bodies to promote arms
exporters.
After Israel killed over 1,400
Palestinians in 2009s Operation Cast
Lead, then foreign secretary David
Miliband said it had almost certainly
used British components.
Tis included display units for F16
ghters and radar and navigation
equipment for Apache helicopters.
Both vehicles are still being used in
Operation Protective Edge.
Miliband promised to review
exports to Israel in light of the
attacks. But while he revoked a few
contracts relating to missile boats,
other equipment from ghter plane
components to sniper rie parts
continued to be sold.

There is no two
state solution
How can Palestine be free? One
common sense solution is to create a
Palestinian state alongside the Israeli
one. But in reality as long as Israel
exists there will be oppression and war.
The Israeli state was created in 1948
on what was then Palestine by forcing
over 750,000 Palestinians from their
homes. It is a state built on racism and
exclusion and dispossession.
Israel became one of the greatest
military powers in the world because
of Western backing. Western rulers use
Israel as a watchdog in the Middle
East to promote Western interests.
Israel isnt there as a refuge for
ordinary Jewish people. It is there to
further Western imperialism.
Its short history is littered with
bloody wars and attacks on its
neighbours. And it can exist only by
denying the rights of Palestinians.
Many of those looking to a two-state
solution genuinely want an end to the
bloodshed. But it is a dead end.
The only solution is to create a
single state where Jews and Arabs
can live alongside each other in peace
and equality. Only this can give all
Palestinians the right of return.
But how can a single state come
about in the face of the awesome power
of Israel and its Western backers?
The defance of the Palestinians is
inspiring. But under siege and with very
little military or economic power they
cant beat Israel on their own. And they
have been betrayed by the Arab regimes.
But the recent Arab revolutions
showed that there is a force with the
power to push back imperialist regimes.
Egypts large working class played
the critical role in bringing down the
hated dictator Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
A revolution across the whole region
can break the hold of imperialism - and
win liberation for Palestine.
