Acne Prevention
What's the best way to get rid of acne? Pre-
vent the pimples from forming up in the first
place! Articles below provide information and
tips that will help you in preventing acne.
Acne prevention often becomes essential
during our teenage years. It can cause great
distress and embarrassment at an age when
young people are very concerned about how
they look. Almost no teenager ¨ and many an
adult on drugs like lithium ¨ is spared a pro-
longed period of acne problems. Pubescent
girls need to pay greater attention to acne
prevention because of the hormonal upsurges
associated with the onset of menstruation.
Increased hormonal activity is the
root cause of acne occurrence. This in turn
causes excess oil production in the skin¡s
sebaceous glands. It is a sad fact that the areas
most affected by acne are those that are al-
most constantly visible with today¡s youthful
fashion trends. Most acne prevention and
control compounds contain specific com-
pounds to address the problem. The packaging
will indicate the presence of these com-
pounds. One of these is benzoyl peroxide
(sometimes in combination with the antibiotic

Most affected teenagers address
acne prevention with manic scrubbing and
dieting. They do this because of a mistaken
assumption that the problem is related to poor
hygiene or improper nutrition. Avoiding fat-
laden junk foods like cheeseburgers is defi-
nitely a step in the right direction for other
health-related reasons. However, it will do
little by ways of acne prevention. Skin hy-
giene is important, and one can prevent acne
to a certain extent by increased and regular
cleansing. However, one tends to go over-
board and resort to using extreme measures
like a face wash of strong toothpaste and other
harsh compounds. This will only aggravate
the problem by encouraging increased com-
pensatory oil production in the skin.
The belief that astringents dis-
courage excess oil secretion is nothing but a
myth. Astringents do take care of superficial
oils. However, they are of no use in acne pre-
vention because they cause the skin to con-
tract. This clogs pores and causes long-term
aggravation for short-term cosmetic benefits.
The best course of action is using a mild
cleansing agent to wash town the entire face
(not just the fabled T zone or only acne-
affected areas) and regular shampooing of
hair.
Oily hair causes facial oiliness. This
is especially true for those who sport
chin/shoulder-length hair. Most importantly,
picking at or rubbing of acne blemishes is
strictly contraindicated. Doing this can lead to
permanent scarring and skin discoloration that
will require measures like laser treatment to
correct later on. Excessive exposure to
sunlight is also a definite no-no - especially if
one is using a compound like tritinoin, which
increases the skin¡s photosensitivity. Tanning
lamps can cause the same harmful effect.
Females affected with acne must rigorously
scan the contents of their cosmetics before
using them ¨ only those without an oily base
and with the tag ¡non-comedogenic¡ (non-
obstructing to skin pores) on the label should
be used. It is also important to avoid sports
headgear such as headbands and cycling hel-
mets. Many fashion accessories that cover part
of the facial skin can cause constriction or
irritation, too.

Pool Techniques - Play Pool Like a Pro
For the outside spectator, it seems as if professional pool play-
ers are performing difficult moves and trick shots at ease. How-
ever, the top pool players are practicing techniques that help
them increase their control over the cue ball and, eventually
maximize their winnings. For example, 8-ball pool players are
using billiards techniques that help them to maneuver the cue
ball so it will rest in a position that would enable the to pocket
the desired ball. Additionally, top players are also using billiard
techniques that make it harder for their opponent to pocket a
ball. Here is a basic introduction to the various techniques ap-
plied by professional players in pool games.
English is a side spin positioned on the cue ball, in which the
cue ball is hit to the left or right of the center. By using English,
the player can also change the direction of an object ball and
the route of the cue ball after contacting with the cue. Follow is
a spin in the direction of the cue ball¡s path in a manner that
causes it to spin faster than usual. When the follow technique is
used, it can widen the angle of departure of the cue ball from
the object ball shortly afterwards. Additionally, follow can
increase the rate of cue ball path before and after contacting the
object ball. Force Follow is an intense form of follow, which
causes the cue ball to pause for less than a minute and then to travel forward all the way through any ball positioned in its way.
Draw is backward spin put on the cue ball; the shooting player hits the cue ball underneath the middle of its vertical level surface. When a draw
technique is used, it causes the angle of departure of the cue ball to be narrowed right after it departed from the object ball. In addition, draw
can help in slowing the rate of cue ball move plus it can even impart an amount of follow to the object ball. Force Draw is an intense type of
draw. Similar to force follow, it also causes the cue ball to pause for a minute and then to shoot backward straight away.

KATHMANDU: The Extreme World Challenge, a UK-based
adventure Sports Company, organised the KONA ¡ Land of the
Yeti¡ Duathlon competition on October 29 to November 2. Or-
ganised in association with the Nepal Cycling Association, the
event began with 30km running from Sorak Shep to Namche Ba-
zar on October 29 and ended with a 47km ride to Jiri. The organ-
isers are aiming to make it a biannual event. ¡ HNS

The final match of the CQMU Soccer Tournament 2008, organized
by the Foreign Students of 2006 Batch was held on the 28th of Octo-
ber in the football field of Chongqing Medical University. The Tour-
nament which was played among four teams was won by the 2005
Batch (Team-B).
In the match, the 2005 Batch (Team-B) played against the 2006
Batch (Team-A) and won by 1-0, the only goal scored by the Team
Captain himself, Ujohn Shakya in the first half.
The grand final ended with the distribution of medals and trophies by
some special guests.

One of my favorite quotes is one that says, ¡ The purpose of life is a life of purpose¡ and that
is exactly what China has bestowed upon me; the purpose driven life. China is the second
largest country in the world and the largest in Asia covering an area of 9.6 million meters
square. It is bordered by Mongolia to the North, Nepal to the South ¨ West, Kazakhstan to the
North ¨ West and Burma to the South. It is one of the most populous countries with a popula-
tion of 1.3 billion which consists of 56 ethnic groups.
The food culture in China especially leaves me in awe at all the diversified dishes that are
available that leave majority if not all the foreigners salivating as the aroma of the foods sizzle
through the air especially during meal times. The Chinese word for fish is ¡yu¡ which sounds
similar to the word for richness or abundance. As a result, Chinese citizens ritualistically eat
fish in new years day believing their wishes will come true in the New Year to come.
The Chinese people are one of the friendliest people that I have come across. They are also
very cultured and polished such that everyone is mandated to use specific etiquette at the din-
ing table. There is an admirable custom of respecting the aged and the guests while taking
good care of the children at the table. The best dishes are first presented to the senior members
of the family then to the junior members as a sign of respect for the elderly in society for the
elders are like a pillar upon which the rest of the society is built.
As an international student, one of my favorite co-curricular activities is karate which is one
of the best performed martial arts in China. My experience while learning karate has been
breath-taking, instilling in me the confidence, discipline and integrity that I need to face in this
extremely challenging world. Being in my campus with Chinese and my fellow international
students from other countries like Malaysia, Nepal, India, Ghana and Indonesia has helped me
to learn a lot about other countries and their customs, beliefs and ways of life. Therefore, we
have been able to share ideas and co-exist even though we are from different countries. No
matter which country one comes from, there are so many things that one can learn from citi-
zens of other countries.
My experiences as an international student in China are my greatest treasure. They have made
a positive impact in my life due to living around positive thinkers and people who care so
much about other people despite the fact that they are from different backgrounds and coun-
tries. Living in this lovely land has taught me to look past everybody¡s inequities, social back-
grounds and differences because despite all our differences, one fact still remains; that we are
all part of the one and only one human race.
