PERFORMING ARTS RESIDENCY PROGRAM OVERVIEW Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education is currently accepting applications for its Performing Artists Residency Program. This initiative will highlight emerging artists in the performing arts: music, theater, performance art, poetry, and dance. Past Performing Artist Residents include: Intikana, "La Bruja" Caridad de la Luz, Sita Frederick and Areytos Performance Works, Circa '95, Cynthia Paniagua, Full Circle Productions and Michael Paul Britto. This three-week, process-oriented residency is awarded to five individual Artists per year. Through an application and juried selection process, the program will provide much needed rehearsal space, performance venue, stipend and arts opportunities for the Artists/Arts groups while providing our community with rich arts-based culture right here in their neighborhood. ABOUT CASITA MARIA CENTER FOR ARTS & EDUCATION Casita Maria is an 80-year old South Bronx-based community arts and educational organization that presents diverse, contemporary visual and performing arts and education programming for all ages. We offer a wide range of interdisciplinary arts and cultural programs for both youth and adults, including an expansive after-school and in-school arts program. All applicants work should be based on an already in-progress work along with two-hour community engagement component (e.g.: an artist talk, workshop). With Casita Marias commitment to local artists, preference will be given to Bronx-based applicants. Only artists who apply through this call or are nominated by outside Bronx organizations will be considered. Artists who have been awarded a Casita Maria Performing Arts Residency must wait two years before applying again. This years jurors include representatives from established arts organizations and former Casita Maria Performing Arts Residency Artists.

REQUIREMENTS Public Programs: Each applicants project must have a culminating performance/event. There is a mandated 2 hours of community engagement that must be completed by the end of the 3-week residency. The community program component should be one that best fits the residency proposal concept. This includes, but is not limited to, workshops, classes, open rehearsals, talks, intensives, etc. Media and Press: A vital part of the Performing Artist Residency Program at the Casita Maria is public awareness. The artist is expected to participate in press interviews, media tours and other such requests for outreach and promotions. PROGRAM BENEFITS Financial Support: Artists receive a $1,000 honorarium. $500 will be issued during the signing of the residency contract. The remaining $500 will be released contingent upon the programs completion, unless an alternate agreement is made between the awarded Artist and Casita Maria. REHEARSAL SPACES Artists will have scheduled access to Casita Marias rehearsal spaces during the 3-week residency. Please see the attached list and schedule of available spaces at the end of application form. Casita Marias building also houses The Bronx Studio School for Writers and Artists. Spaces designated for educational use (music room, cafeteria, auditorium, and dance studio) are not available during school hours: 7 AM-4 PM. All available spaces are coordinated between Casita Marias Afterschool and Visual and Performing Arts Department programs. Due to these shared spaces, applicants must keep in mind: All final space requests must be made within 4 weeks of acceptance to the residency program. Due to shared usage and schedule logistics, changes to rehearsal dates times and/or events and performance dates and times after finalization and submission are not possible. ARTIST RESIDENCY 2014-15 APPLICATION INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS Please carefully review the following instructions before submitting application form and work samples. SELECTION CRITERIA: Artists selection will be selected based on: Excellence of proposed projects and public engagement component Involvement/interest in working with the Bronx community Quality of past work based on submitted work samples Career history from narrative biography and resume

8. Work Samples and List Information Each applicant is allowed to submit up to 3 work samples as quality examples of their practice. All work samples must be listed in the application section provided and represent of current work (over the past 2-3 years). Any physical materials sent (print-outs / CDs / DVDs) must have the applicants first and last name written on them that corresponds to the work sample number from application form. For video samples: include one CD or DVD with mp4 or m4v video files not to exceed 5 minutes. For electronic submission please use WeTransfer, Google Drive file transfer or Dropbox to ajordan@casitamaria.org. You may also provide links to YouTube, and/or Vimeo or other online location to view work samples. Make sure to provide proper passwords if necessary.
