FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I am from Latin America but not from one of the nine partner countries; can I still
apply?
No. Unfortunately the project is only open to nationals of Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, El
Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Uruguay.
I am a national of one of the nine partner countries but I study/work in another
country, can I apply?
Yes. The call is open to all nationals of the nine countries, regardless of where you are
living.
Can I apply for a scholarship even though I do not belong to any of the partner
universities in Latin America?
Yes. You can apply for all scholarships except bachelor and staff exchange.
Can I choose the host university myself?
Yes. In the application you are allowed two choices.
Do I need to take a TOEFL/IELTS test to prove my level of English?
This depends on the academic level and the EU-university. We highly recommend that
you read the information above and that you get in touch with the contact person at the
university you are interested in and check the requirements.
Is there an age limit for the scholarships?
No.
Does my chance of receiving a scholarship depend on what universities I apply to?
Yes. In the selection we will strive for a balance between the EU-universities. This means
that your chance of getting a scholarship is better if you apply to a university with fewer
applications. In the last call Ghent, Montpellier and Gttingen got the fewest
applications, for this reason all applications to these universities will receive an extra 10
points in the evaluation. The university with the most applications (i.e. least chance of
being selected) is Universidad de Valladolid.
How is the selection of scholarships made?
The selection is based on different criteria for different academic levels. Please see
http://www.uu.se/peace/apply/selection-procedure for more information. The
evaluations are made by the EU universities for all candidates (candidates
belonging to one of the partner universities are also evaluated by their home
university).

When do I have to start my scholarship?
If you are a bachelor or master student you will start during the
September/October 2014. For PhD and Post-docs timing is more flexible, but the
last possible starting date is December 31
st
of 2014. Staff candidates can start
any time before June 2016.

What is a proof of Vulnerability?
Certain scholarships are targeted to candidates in particularly difficult situations.
This could be:
Belonging to an indigenous group/minority
Being a refugee or an internally displaced person (due to either political
or environmental concerns)
Having been discriminated against on the grounds of religion, ethnicity
sexuality, gender or similar
Living in a remote and poor area
Living under very difficult socio-economic circumstances
In order to prove that you belong to one or more of these groups you need to
provide some sort of documentation in your application. This could be a
document from a government agency, an NGO, your university or something
similar.
