Post-tensioning systems for bridges and viaducts, TTM tension technology s.r.l. in 2002
deposited with the Ministry as per Circular of 15th October 1996 no. 252 AA.GG./S.T.C. for three
types of strands: T15, T15S and T15C. TTM tension technology s.r.l. was the first company in
Europe to offer other companies with the chance to apply post-tensioning systems with strands having a
T15C section ( with a section of 165 mm
2
), therefore changing from strands with a section of 140 mm
2

to a section of 165 mm
2
.
The T15 strand allows to reduce the number of strands in cables, thus decreasing the class of
anchorage. The systems provided are available both adherent and non-adherent.
The post-tensioning systems for anchorages: M and D were awarded with the CE marking, according
to the ETAG 013 guidelines obtaining the European Technical Approval for its multiple strand systems
B.T.E. ETA-09-0013 and its relating marking CE 0969-CPD-002/09-PT

Post-tensioning systems for slabs and plates, TTM tension technology s.r.l. designed highly
innovative encapsulated systems, which guarantee a total antioxidant effect, to offer its customers
products with a higher durability and quality. The post-tensioning systems for anchorages: E, ED and
EX were awarded with the CE marking, according to the ETAG 013 guidelines obtaining the European
Technical Approval for its single strand systems B.T.E. ETA-09-0012 and its relating marking CE

Company profile 2009

Consolidating systems for geotechnical uses, TTM tension technology s.r.l. has adopted since
2002 as a reference for its products the EURO NORM EN 1537 2002, thus making them compliant to
the standard required by the EU. Based on this principle, TTM offers several applications besides
supplying permanent and temporary rock anchorages:
- Permanent/temporary repeated grout ( I.R. ) rock anchorages, the different structure of the soil
to consolidate required the application of permanent/temporary repeated grout rock anchorages,
- Permanent/temporary repeated selective grout ( I.R.S. ) rock anchorages, the difficulties found
in the installation of permanent rock anchorages required for several applications the selective
repeated grout. Specific rock anchorages were therefore designed,
- Removable permanent/temporary rock anchorages, the new requirements led to the production
of removable rock anchorages for the applications where the total removal of the rock
anchorage is required, once its static function is over, in full respect of other people's property,
- Permanent/temporary rock anchorages with preventer for stratum applications, severe
applications required the insertion of rock anchorages into strata with a strong presence of
water under pressure, hence the requirement to design rock anchorages with a preventer,

- Partially removable permanent/temporary rock anchorages, the new requirements led to the
production of removable rock anchorages for the applications where the partial removal of the
rock anchorage is required, once its static function is over, in full respect of other people's
property,
- Increased adherence permanent/temporary rock anchorages, the very common problem of the
limitation of the length of rock anchorages, necessary to reduce the drilling length, required to
design and produce increased adherence bulbs,
- Dielectric permanent rock anchorages, the demand for dielectric rock anchorages led to the
production of a rock anchorages that are isolated from stray currents,
- Totally encapsulated permanent rock anchorages, the demand for long-lasting rock
anchorages, designed for severe applications, where resistance to corrosion is required,
- In order to guarantee a constant production over time and a quick service to customers, highly
automatic plants were implemented to achieve a high level of production ensuring quality at the
same time.

The production of rock anchorages is developed over four lines. The whole production system has a
daily capacity of cutting of about 80,000 meter of strands by means of extremely high productiveness
numerical control plants.

Production is controlled by a central unit
which directly connects the approved offers
with the schedule of production, thus making
the production plan easier and faster and
guaranteeing the traceability of items over
time.

Rock anchorages are produced and then rolled with
a diameter of 2.2 m. This kind of package allows
easy moving of goods with normal means.
Rock anchorages are rolled together with a metallic
keeper covered by carton. They are then loaded into
the trucks horizontally. We suggest discharging
them by tying them by means of three grabbing
points, using hemp bandages.

Each rock anchorage has its lot number and
identification label and it is stocked into proper
open cages which preserve the integrity of all
rock anchorage components.
Production phases are developed according to
EURO NORM EN 1537-2002 paragraph 8.2.1.
Production is compliant to the EURO NORM EN
1537-2002 paragraph 8.2.1. , respecting the
stocking and assembling regulations.

The stocking phase is the most important part of the whole production. The storage inside the
warehouse, a proper handling, a division per lot and customer, an adequate protection and a suitable
package guarantee high quality products that keep their characteristics from production until the
customer site.
Rock anchorages
are lifted by means
of proper lifting
means to avoid any
damage to the
sheaths. They are
then moved to a
stocking area ready
for shipment.
Rock anchorages
are placed into
special containers
which allow to keep
each product
divided by lot, type
and customer.

All rock anchorages are packaged in groups of several items and identified one by one with a proper
label. After a proper storage, rock anchorages are handled by using a special three-point lifting system,
then they are placed onto the truck by preventing any damage to the sheaths and to labels.

In order to make discharging easier on sites, we suggest to use proper lifting machines and to lay the
rolled up rock anchorages onto a suitable surface.
MS passive and active guying systems: the need to produce functional structures favoured the
development of systems able to resist the most severe fatigue standards, thus offering an anticorrosion
durable product.

The accessories for the several systems, directly produced by TTM, reduce the time of installation and
implementation of the systems on sites, guaranteeing the traceability of the material as well as
durability.

Strand, is supplied thanks to the iron and steel capacity of the group, which has at its disposal two
factories for a production of about 150,000 ton per year.

- ORI Martin s.p.a. ( www.orimartin.it ), special steel production,
- SLM s.p.a. ( www.slmspa.com ), transformation of steel and strand production for post-tensioning
systems,
- Strand-Tech Martin Inc. ( www.strandtech.com ), strand production for post-tensioning
applications,

All anchorage systems, for both post-tensioning and geotechnical applications (rock anchorages), have
been tested using the three types of strand currently available on the market. The use of the T15C strand
with 165 mm
2
section aroused a lively interest on the market as it reduces the number of strands in the
cable, thus decreasing the anchorage by one class.

Monitoring with cells

( EURO NORM EN UNI 1537-2002 paragraph 9.11 )
Rock anchorages may be integrated with a monitoring device. If a structure is affected by stressing
variations or by the movements of the soil, a device can be used t o moni tor it s behavi our
duri ng i t s desi gn l i f e.

The series DE e DS of load cells can be used
together with the TTR-100 and TTR450 cap
system, which allows to entirely cover the
anchor plate ensuring a protection over time and
compliance with the EURO NORM EN UNI
1537-2002 paragraph 6.9.3. Rock anchorages
are defined permanent if their expected service
life is over two years.

With the De and DS load service the use of
long protection caps is recommended to allow
the re-tensioning of the TTR anchorages over
time.

EURO NORM EN UNI 1537-2002 paragraph 9.11
In some cases when structural movements occur, a regular re-stressing of rock anchorages may be necessary to maintain the
residual anchoring force above the minimum level required.
The anticorrosion protection of the accessible parts of the anchoring head must be regularly controlled
and, if necessary, renewed.
