This lesson will serve as an introduction to the unit theme, identity. It will also introduce students to several nutritional terms as well as gauge the daily diet of the students.
Survey: This unit begins with an entry-level assessment that gauges students understanding of identity as a theme and identity in relation to their lives. The survey asks students to provide their own definitions of identity and name some important aspects of their identities. This assessment will give me a clearer idea of how students view the unit topic, and it will prepare students for the unit by prompting them to think about some of the units big ideas and essential questions. Students should take this survey at home in preparation for an in-class discussion of the same topics.
Teacher Lecture: After completing the survey on different nutritional topics, students will read/watch a teacher lecture that introduces them to the different nutritional terms and ways to keep a healthy body. Students will learn why certain macronutrients are to be consumed at a lower portion then others. The lecture also provides students with information on the process of making working healthy diet plans, which will lay the foundation for later activities that call for students to create working diet plans for a family member.
Guided notes will help students record and organize critical information, allowing them to easily reference this lectures information throughout the unit.
Lesson 2 Student Learning Objective: Analyze the different types of macro and micronutrients and learn about the different amounts of calories they contain.
Acceptable Evidence: Student can respond to a diet plan by proposing a reasonable hypothesis for the set macronutrients and explaining how those numbers can get desired results. Instructional Strategies: Communication Collection Collaboration Presentation Organization Interaction Lesson Activities:
Review of Teacher Lecture: This lesson begins with a review of some of the concepts introduced in Lesson 1. Review the different nutritional vocabulary words and discuss how we can use this knowledge to help create a working healthy diet plan that ca be followed throughout a lifetime.
Webquest (F): This activity will introduce students to the process of creating a working healthy diet plan. The webquest will ask students to collect information, synthesize that information, analyze artworks, and make judgments about nutrition. It provides students with specific questions to help them determine the most useful information for analyzing a work.
