Attendance:

Welcome back to Term 3, I hope you managed to have a relaxing and happy holiday. Additionally to
the new families who have joined our school community, welcome.

Year 6 Camp: This will take place 20 24 October, Term 4. Full payment, $200, will be required
before your child goes on camp. It is advisable to begin putting money aside now; simply send in
money on a regular basis and your childs class teacher will collect and send to the office for
receipting.

Playgroup: If you attend the Mount Lockyer Primary School Playgroup on Wednesdays or drive
along Humphreys Street you would have noticed two, large beautifully made picnic tables. I would
like to thank Doug and Shane from Bunnings for organising this very generous gift to our Playgroup.
It is greatly appreciated and will be used by many children and community members over the years
to come.

ANZAC Commemoration: As you are all aware this year marks a very significant date for Albany,
the commemoration of 100 years since the departure of the first convoy from Albany to WW1. To
fully acknowledge this most significant historical event the Minister for Education, Hon Peter Colller
MLC, has agreed to close Albany schools on Friday 31 October 2014. Many exciting activities are
already planned for the Albany community with more being discussed. During the Centenary period,
our students will be learning more about the history behind ANZAC and the important role played by
Albany and the convoy. We hope you and your family will take advantage of this fantastic opportunity
to commemorate the occasion and take part in the many activities available.

For further information, including a detailed program covering local events, please visit the web site
www.anzacalbany.com.au .

Car Restraints: It has been brought to my attention by a concerned community member that they
have observed, on a number of occasions, parents dropping or collecting children from the school
with younger children in their car who are not restrained in the car. Transport related injuries to
children are one of the leading causes of hospital admissions with approximately 200 children
presenting annually at Princess Margaret Hospital as a result of a road traffic injury.

We ask that all parents check that your restraints are correctly installed and adjusted for your
children. Ensure that every child is buckled up on every trip in a restraint suitable for their age and
size.

Top five things to be aware of are:
Child restraints need to be Australian Standards tested and less than 10 years old.
Children, birth to 6 months, should be rearward facing with an inbuilt 5 or 6 point harness.
From 6 months to 4 years they can be forward facing with an inbuilt 6 point harness.
From age 4 to 7 children can sit in a booster seat with an approved inbuilt harness or with an adult
seat belt.
Fines for having unrestrained children in your car start at $500.

If you would like more information regarding the suitability of your child care restraint, contact Kid
Safe Great Southern on 98411 382 or tracy@kidsafewa.com.au .

Dogs on Grounds: It is a Department of Education regulation that dogs are not permitted on school
grounds. To support our compliance with this regulation please refrain from bringing your dog onto
school grounds.

The first assembly for Term 3 will be hosted by the children in Room 22. I look forward to being
entertained by our Year Threes from Ms Maddisons class, hope to see you there.

Parents of 4 year olds - Immunisations
Children who have turned 4 years of age are scheduled to
received 2 injections, MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella)
and DTP IPV (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough,
and Polio) vaccines. These are booster doses to ensure
good levels of coverage against these life threatening
diseases. These immunisations can now be given as early
as 3.5 years of age.
From 1 July 2012, families will need to have their children
fully immunized or have an approved exemption to receive
the Family Tax Benefit Part A end-of-year supplement.
The supplement, worth $726 per child, will now only be
paid once a child is fully immunised at one, two and five
years of age, or has an approved exemption.
This means that over the three immunisation check points,
families will have an incentive of more than $2,100.
If your child still requires his/her immunisations please see
your usual immunisation provider or alternatively you are
welcome to make an appointment for our Tuesday /
Thursday Population Health Immunisation Clinic, in Albany.
This is a free service, and appointments can be made by
phoning 98427500.
If you have any questions relating to immunisation please
do not hesitate to contact me on the phone number below

Jump Rope For Heart
What a fantastic end to Term 2! Congratulations to all
the Lockyer Leapers who put on a great skipping
demonstration to begin the Jump Off afternoon.
Following the performance it was great to see
everyone outside enjoying their skipping in very
pleasant conditions. Thank you to all the parents who
came along to support and help with the Jump Off and
special mention to Ms Sluiter and Mrs Westcott for
joining in the double unders competition. Not only was
it a great afternoon of activity, but a very useful fund
raiser for the Heart Foundation. Thanks to the efforts
of some very busy sponsor seekers and a very
generous community over $2 250.00 was raised for
the Heart Foundation. Special mention needs to go to
Logan Robertson who raised $367.65 and to Kate
Trayvilla, who is now in High School, but also got
sponsorship of $310.00. A
very big thank you again to
the children and families who
helped raise such a large
sum of money.

Verbal warning.
STEP 2

STEP 3

Class.

Parents will be requested to attend
school.

Students will be immediately
suspended for verbal abuse of
staff and/or violence towards
staff or students.

suspension must be
accompanied by an adult and

Centre (Room 20) where an
Individual Behaviour
Management Plan will be
developed and implemented.
WHAT IS BULLYING?

Bullying is when a student or group
keep picking on another student. They
try to hurt them physically or
emotionally. The behaviour is
deliberate and repeated.

A fight or disagreement between
equal students is not bullying.

HOW TO STOP BULLYING

Tell an adult, it is not dobbing to
ask for help. Both victim and
those bullying will be counselled
and supported.
Do not be a by-stander; if you
witness bullying try to stop it or
report it.

IF YOU ARE BULLYING

Step 1: Warning
Step 2: In school isolation and
counselling at recess and lunch,
parents will be notified
Step 3: For continued breaches
students will be suspended.
