In organizations, reward systems are designed as an insurance plan to secure and

protect the health of employees against any work-related illness or injury. Suc
h insurance is generally based on fixed medical charges in addition to proxy of
that amount of income, which was owned to the employee, if that person did not w
ork during illness or injury. For instance, a house painting company's employee
fell off the ladder while working and injured his back. The compensation insuran
ce for company's employees will pay a certain percentage of the medical bills du
e on the employee. Moreover, the company management will also compensate the emp
loyee for his lost income while he was on a month leave from work to heal from i
njuries.

Discussion
Typically, reward systems are designed in a manner, which can benefit an employe
e along with his family members and these reward systems may vary across differe
nt companies and organizations. According to Reingold (2008), motivation of all
employees is directly affected by the reward system, which can be composed of bo
th tangible as well as intangible benefits to keep employees motivated and attra
ctive towards the job. In some cases, compensation for employees can cover chron
ic illness or occupational disease that can occur as an incident at workplace. F
or instance, there are certain jobs that require employees to operate machines o
r computers for a prolonged period and involve enormous physical strength. In th
at case, function or strength of their arms may deteriorate and turn into a dise
ase named carpal tunnel syndrome. There are few compensation plans for employees
that cover medical treatment for such chronic illness (Reingold, 2008).
Henckels' (n.d.) view of the airline industry states that it has grown by an ave
rage percentage of 5% per annum, since last 30 years, and this growth of the air
line industry is expected to grow by twice in the next 10-15 years. In the US, a
major contribution to the US economy is made by the revenues of airline industr
y; however, the industry is also recognized as a risky when it comes to talk abo
ut job safety and security. Therefore, healthy compensation package and life ins
urance of employees are the prime motivating factors to work in the airline indu
stry.
