Lesson Objective (s) : By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to::
i. say the phoneme /s/ correctly; and
ii. identify objects with the phoneme /s/..
Activities :
1. Invite pupils who celebrate their birthdays on the day/ week/ month.
2. Sing the birthday song for the pupils.
3. Give them a little token (sweets/ chocolates).
4. Introduce the phoneme /s/ by showing an action. (form a cobra head with your hand).
5. Trace the letter s in the air and say /s/.
6. Demonstrate how to sound it out:
7. Pupils do the action and say /s/.
8. Pupils say /s/ is for the letter s and the letters ss.
9. Put up a picture chart on the board. (Appendix 1)
10. Tell the story of Jessy and her dress. (Appendix 2)
11. Show picture cards with word cards and say the words aloud. (Appendix 3a & 3b)
12. Pupils say the words with guidance.
13. Put the picture cards on the board. (Appendix 3a)
14. The word cards can be put on the board or on the table. (Appendix 3b)
15. Pupils match the pictures and words correctly.
16. Check the answers with the pupils.
17. Consolidation
18. Complete the exercise on page 17 in the pupils module.
19. Teacher says a word and pupils circle the correct picture.
