Those representing the Romulus Senior Center in the annual Downriver Senior Olympics were an impressive bunch. They were enthusiastic, showed sportsmanship and were very competitive. Participation from Romulus more than doubled this year! Our team earned medals and played hard. Im writing this during Olympics week, so we dont yet have the total medal count, but rest assured that your city is feeling pride. As we head into August, Im also proud to say that parks recreation options for residents of all ages have returned. As I said in this space last month, Elmer Johnson Community Park has reopened and is being heavily used by our community. We have worked toward reopening a couple more parks, too. Recreation programming has provided activities for our youth and adults. Children perhaps including some of your grandchildren are enjoying the summer recreation elementary daytime program, craft classes, cheerleading, softball and soccer. Adults have been playing softball and volleyball. Weve offered golf lessons at Gateway as well. The crowds for the Sounds in Downtown summer music series have had appreciative crowds at Romulus Historical Park. And it wont be long until the Pumpkin Festival and Parade of Lights return September 19-21 for everyones enjoyment. Of course, activities at the Romulus Senior Center continue to be at an all-time high. Director Rose Swidan and her staff are implementing even more programs in August. If you have an idea for our center, please see Rose. She is always open to good ideas!
