grades
Applications for this class of products include baking nishes,
acid-curing nishes and physically drying nishes. Both
solvent-based and water-based systems may be formulated,
depending on the resin structure.
Luwipal

grades are the preferred choice wherever the paint

nish provides resistance to weathering, yellowing and to
chemicals, and especially hardness and luster.
Melamine-formaldehyde resins for the coatings industry are
condensation products consisting of melamine, formaldehyde
and an etherication alcohol. They are distinguished by
viscosity, molecular weight, degree of etherication, reactivity
and type of cutting solvent.
Benzoguanamine-formaldehyde resins contain
benzoguanamine as raw material instead of melamine.
Because of this aromatic ring, weather resistance and light
fastness are limited. However, Luwipal

B is characterized by
high exibility and resistance to chemicals.

grades
Applications for this class of products include baking nishes,
acid-curing nishes and physically drying nishes. Both
solvent-based and water-based systems maybe formulated,
depending on resin structure.
Plastopal

grades are the preferred choice wherever, in

contrast to the melamine-formaldehyde resins, the paint nish
requires resistance to overbaking, good adhesion, exibility
and economic cost of use.
Urea-formaldehyde resins for the coatings industry are
condensation products consisting of urea, formaldehyde and
an etherication alcohol. They are distinguished by viscosity,
molecular weight, degree of etherication, reactivity and type of
cutting solvent. BASFs product range includes brittle
crosslinkers that need an external co-reactant and plasticized
products that work as sole binders.
Carbamate resins are composed of an urethane group
containing raw material, formaldehyde and an etherication
alcohol. Plastopal

BT grades are used wherever lasting

exibility is necessary.
For every challenge the right amino resin?
At BASF, we create chemistry.
BASF as the world's leading chemical company offers a broad range of amino
resins for industrial applications ranging from automotive coatings, metal stoving
coatings to industrial wood coatings. Luwipal

018 is a prominent example for

a renowned and established product in the automotive OEM coatings industry.
In this respect the amino resins are also an ideal match for other products of the
BASF product portfolio, e.g., the range of acrylic polyols the Joncryl

polyols.
In close cooperation we help our customers in nding the ideal formulation for
their specic needs.

A To achieve high-solid coatings, highly ethered amino resins are
1

most benecial. At the same solids content a partially ethered amino
resin offers higher baking reactivity. Superior performance in terms of
drying conditions is achieved with highly reactive crosslinkers.
B Weak acids (e. g., maleic acid) used as a catalyst enhance the baking
reactivity of methylol groups in amino resins
2
and
3
.
C Strong acids (e. g., sulfonic acid) boost the reactivity of all functional
groups. Addition of catalyst has an effect on storage stability and
needs separate lab work.
