Susan Collet Launches Federal Government Relations Consulting Firm
Washington, D.C., August 6, 2014. Susan Collet is pleased to announce the launch of H Street
Capitol Strategies, LLC (HSCS), a Washington, D.C.-based federal government relations
advisory firm specializing in municipal securities, tax policy, and not-for-profit utilities. Collet
commented, After 20 years of successful federal advocacy, I have created a forward-looking
firm to connect clients with the best resources and strategies for shaping federal policy against
a backdrop that has sharply evolved over the past two decades.
The firm will assist clients in direct lobbying, crafting effective testimony, drafting comment
letters, and organizing high-profile advocacy campaigns, with a focus on tax, energy, and
financial services committees in Congress, and key regulators. HSCSs priorities are enabling
clients to maintain effective, long-term relationships, delivering tangible results, and setting
strategic goals tied to measurable, successful outcomes.
Collet commented on the significance of the firm name as a reflection of how Washington, D.C.
is changing. She said, I think of H Street as the new growth corridor in Washington, D.C. The
firm name is a reflection of the new ways that independent advocates can equip clients to take
advantage of todays more universal access to information about Congress and regulators, cut
through information overload, and leverage their internal resources to become their own best
advocates.
Ms. Collet has a 20-year track record of results on Capitol Hill and with federal regulators. A
career start at Van Ness Feldman, a nationally recognized energy law firm, led her to
concentrate on representing municipal utilities, including the Large Public Power Council. She
moved to the American Public Power Association and the National Rural Electric Cooperative
Association, where she focused on tax policy advocacy before the House Ways and Means and
Senate Finance Committees, Joint Committee on Taxation and Treasury Departments. Susan
worked to develop, enact and continually improve upon ground-breaking tax credit bonds and
direct-pay bonds that finance not-for-profit utility renewable energy projects. Her knowledge
of tax-preferred bonds led her to the Bond Dealers of America, where she successfully
positioned middle market fixed-income dealers to advocate for critical modifications to Dodd-
Frank rules affecting that industry, and led a coalition of broker-dealers and issuers to defend
the municipal bond tax exemption in the midst of tax reform initiatives. H Street Capitol
Strategies, LLC brings its clients 20 years of continuous successful advocacy with specialties in
tax policy, not-for-profit utilities and municipal securities.
