Farmer to Farmer Program
Catholic Rural Life is collaborating with Catholic
Relief Service to implement the Farmer- to-Farmer
program. The program promotes sustainable eco-
nomic growth, food security and agricultural devel-
opment. They are looking for volunteer technical
assistance from US farmers, business people, uni-
versities, etc., to help develop productivity, to ac-
cess new markets and conserve environmental and
natural resources. Volunteers work with farmers,
producer groups, rural businesses and service pro-
viders. Volunteers are not paid, but all expenses are
covered by CRS, including pre-departure costs
(passport, visa, vaccinations), airfare, lodging,
meals and in-country transportation. Presently there
are around 500 projects in Ethiopia, Tanzania,
Uganda and Kenya. . Length of volunteer service
is generally for several weeks. For more infor-
mation contact Beth Hyer at: beth@ncrlc.com or

Prayer to the Holy Spirit, Giver of
Life

Come Holy Spirit, Creator of all things...You who
breathed over the waters at the dawn of creation and
brought forth all living beings...You who filled the
apostles when the Risen Lord breathed on them on
the first Easter night, giving them the power to re-
store life to those dead in sin...You who, on the last
day, will breathe again over all the dead and raise
them from the grave--Come! Come and breathe on
our world again, immersed as it is in the Culture of
Death! Come, O Lord and Giver of Life! Defeat the
works of death in our midst, that abortion may no
longer stain our land.
We worship You, O Holy Spirit, and we rejoice in
You. We know that no matter how strong the forces
of death may be, we can still find in You the endless
source of life. Renew that life in each of us, and
make us worthy apostles of the Culture of Life in
our day! Amen.

Prayer for the New Evangelization
Lord Jesus Christ, you have given Your Church the mis-
sion to proclaim the Gospel to all the nations.
May our efforts to fulfill this mission be guided by the
Holy Spirit so that we might be a leaven of new life, salt
of the earth and a light to the world, worthy missionaries
and faithful to You.
Make us valiant witnesses to the Faith of the Church and
inspire us to speak the truth with love. Help us to com-
municate to to others the joy that we have received.
Permit us to be united but no closed, humble but not fear-
ful, simple but not nave, thoughtful but not overbearing,
contemporary, but not superficial, respectful of others but
boldly your disciple's.
May we bear into the world the hope of God who is
Christ the Lord who rose from the dead and lives with and
reigns with God and the Holy Spirit one God forever and
ever .
Amen
Mass Intentions
As Catholics, we have a long tradition of having Masses celebrated for those we wish to offer up in prayer.
The Mass is the ultimate form of prayer, and each Mass is celebrated for an intention.
Please consider having Masses celebrated for family and friends on special occasions and anniversaries, as
well as those who are in need of prayers. Masses are also encouraged in memory of those loved ones who
have died, especially on the anniversaries of their deaths. Contact Fr. Cory for more information!
A Merciful Word
A merciful word is anything written or said with the intention of alleviating the suffering of another. For ex-
ample, a word that aims to give hope to the despairing, tries to get the sad to laugh, attempts to help the fearful
to trust in Jesus, or seeks to make the lonely feel less alone is a word of mercy.
Next: Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, author of Consoling the Heart of Jesus, will focus on a specific word of mer-
cy.

Stewardship

August 17, 2014 - 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

"For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable." -
Romans 11:29

God has a special mission in mind for each of us. He
has given us the gifts we need to accomplish that mis-
sion. We are called to be good stewards by using
those gifts to do the work that He has planned for
each of us. If we deny our gifts or fail to use them as
God calls us to use them, then some part of His work
will be left undone.

Prayer For US Elections

O God, we acknowledge You today as Lord,
Not only of individuals, but of nations and
governments.

We thank You for the privilege
Of being able to organize ourselves politically
And of knowing that political loyalty does not have
to mean disloyalty to You.

We thank You for Your law, which our Founding
Fathers acknowledged and recognized as higher than
any human law. We thank You for the opportunity
that this election year puts before us, To exercise
our solemn duty not only to vote, but to influence
countless others to vote, And to vote correctly.

Lord, we pray that Your people may be awakened.
Let them realize that while politics is not their
salvation, their response to You requires that
they be politically active.

Awaken Your people to know that they are not called
to be a sect fleeing the world But rather a
community of faith renewing the world.

Awaken them that the same hands lifted up to You in
prayer (http://www.catholic.org/prayers)are the
same hands that pull the lever in the voting booth;
that the same eyes that read Your Word , are the eyes
that read the names on the ballot, and that they do not
cease to be Christians when they enter the voting
booth.

Awaken Your people to a commitment to justice,
To the sanctity of marriage and the family,
To the dignity of each individual human life,
And to the truth that human rights begin when
Human Lives begin, And not one moment later.

Lord, we rejoice today That we are citizens of
Your kingdom. May that make us all the more
committed to being faithful citizens on earth.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Amen.
