Lesson 1: Features of Shabbat

Continue reading about Shabbat in your booklet and using the


following headings complete notes in dot points.
• Reasons for Shabbat
• Outline of Shabbat
• Significance of Shabbat

Shema and Yigdal and Kaddish


Research in your booklets and on the internet information about
each of these prayers including a quote (with reference) when they
are said and why.

Lesson 2: Definitions: see the sheet attached and research


and define each of these terms.

Lesson 3: Features and symbols of the synagogue.

Go to the ning site and copy the diagram on the


synagogue site, paste it to a word diagram and label
each of the synagogue features, noting significance
and/or symbolism

Lesson 4: Describe the significant practice within Judaism


(Synagogue Service)

Using the mind map and your notes on Synagogue Service


write/draw up an essay plan that would respond to the question
above.
This should include the function of the synagogue, different prayer
services, Shabbat, symbols or features of the synagogue, specific
prayers, variants, other?

Using the plan complete the response (minimum 500 words)

Hand in both plan and response with name and Lesson 1 clearly
labeled.

Lesson 5: Beliefs of Judaism

Read the notes titled: ‘Beliefs’ and in order of significance list these
beliefs in a table.

Look at aspects of the synagogue service and consider how they


express the beliefs. (May be completed in pairs)

Lesson 6: Demonstrate how Synagogue service expresses


the beliefs of Judaism (500 word minimum)

In pairs you are to complete a response to the question, following


the table.

Submit both the table and response with name and clearly labeled.
(each student is required to hand in a response)

Lesson 7: Significance of the synagogue service

Look back over the extended response about the description of the
synagogue service.
– In pairs you are to identify 4/5 aspects of the
synagogue service: eg
(synagogue, prayer services, prayers,
features/symbols)
– Create a table or similar and next to each aspect of
the synagogue you are to outline the significance to
the community and also to the individual (why is it
important) and include variants.
– Refer to the booklet and also additional research

Lesson 8: Analyse the significance of the Synagogue Service


for the adherents (500 word minimum)

Complete this extended response.

Lesson 10: Complete all work required. You may add


appropriate photos to the ning website

Make a list of questions to ask on the excursion
