1 ILN Packages Specifications
"The design of supplier packages must meet the requirements of these specifications. Any other proposal requires prior consent from RENAULT engineering department."
In the context of the project, RENAULT may ask the supplier to perform a DCL (Description of Logistics Conditions) sheet pre-study or "pre-DCL" to define packaging that complies with these specifications.
"The glossary of logistics terms mentioned in the document can be found in Appendix 6.5 on page 21"
1-1 Introduction
These specifications, prepared by RENAULT, concern at all BOP/BIP parts suppliers (RENAULT first fit assembly, mechanical and body components and parts) for export. It applies to production and "post-production phase" flow in ISO High Cube containers via ILN logistics centres to RENAULT plants using the following means of transport: - Truck - Boat - Train * plane in exceptional cases (carry over the range of packages from these specifications).
It is designed to regulate the design of packaging to meet the requirements:
Of the ILN involved in terms of:
- Quality: The packaging protects the quality of parts against impact, deformation (mechanical or weather constraints) as well as against oxidation from its date of manufacture, during transportation and storage until acceptance at the client's plant.
- Densification: optimising the use of space in packaging is vital to ensure the most cost-effective logistics.
Of the final customer (plant) in terms of:
- Monthly use of parts
- Line side installation (safety and ergonomics requirements included).
For any questions on these specifications, contact the ILN packaging engineering department or plant concerned.
Division name: DFLM Date: 12/12/2012 RPIFSLRSC20120030 Department name: DIFIP RENAULT PROPERTY OVERSEAS packaging specifications for parts suppliers
4 44 4 2 Responsibilities
The proposed packaging must comply with the transportation legislation in force (IMDG International Maritime Dangerous Goods). The internal arrangements (bracing, separators, etc.) must comply with the specifications and protects the quality of parts against impact and deformation. The supplier is responsible for the quality of its parts
Wood
Any wood used for packaging must comply with ISPM15 Example: wooden pallet, wooden packages, additional wood bracing, etc. * A copy of ISPM15 is available at the following address: www.ippc.int The supplier will refer to the latest version of the standard.
Cardboard
Packaging compliance will always be checked from a qualitative point of view (wood thickness, cardboard, ISPM15, etc.). The Engineering Department is prepared to provide Technical Assistance to define packaging whenever a supplier so requests, without however releasing the supplier from its final responsibility.
DCL
The supplier undertakes to fully comply with the specifications by filling out the DCL sheet. Packaging deliveries to the ILN may not be accepted without the supplier DCL sheet duly completed and validated by the engineering department. Copy of the sheet in Appendix 6.4 page 18. * Is available on the supplier portal in xls format (with an instruction manual tab). Chapter IX - Packaging - Logistics Conditions Description (DCL sheet)
It will be sent to the ILN Engineering Department which, after technical validation, will be forwarded to the RENAULT Purchasing department (circuit and lead time for the D.C.L. Sheet available in Appendix 6.1 page 15).
Non-compliance with the specifications on behalf of the supplier (dimensions, quality of the packaging, non-compliant DCL sheet, etc.) will be subject to claims on the part of the ILN (Engineering or Quality Department) Any economic consequences will thus be assigned to the supplier.
2.1 Protective materials
Based on its vast experience and knowledge of parts, RENAULT is able to support the supplier in its choice of protective material. The following guide aims to present suppliers with a non-exhaustive list* of protective materials suitable for transport to the customer plant. * Other protective materials exist in addition to those listed in the table. If you need further information, please contact the ILN Engineering department.

2.3 Corrosion prevention
* Absolutely must refer to the information taken from the white paper available on the supplier portal: Chapter IX - Packaging - Corrosion prevention white paper
- All metal, mechanical and electrical parts must be protected. - The types of corrosion prevention are: Dry (VCI film, VCI dust cover, VCI bubble wrap, VCI foam pad) Oil-based (if there is a special recommendation) - Simple watertight protection in the package (toy tabbing, taping, etc.) - Desiccant sachet: The desiccant used is clay-based (natural) and does NOT contain aggressive chemical products; it can therefore be placed in direct contact with packaged parts, with no risk of corrosion.
A table to calculate the amount of desiccant to add to the packaging is available on the supplier portal Chapter IX - Packaging - Amount of desiccant calculation
The calculation is done in line with standard DIN 55474. The desiccant must be distributed evenly in the packaging.
- The products used must meet the white paper requirements. - According to the White Paper, the protection remains effective from 90 to 180 days depending on the flow.
Note: RENAULT reserves the right to request samples from suppliers in order to check the compliance of protective products.
Division name: DFLM Date: 12/12/2012 RPIFSLRSC20120030 Department name: DIFIP RENAULT PROPERTY OVERSEAS packaging specifications for parts suppliers
7 77 7 2.4 Packaging densification
RENAULT is endeavouring to optimise the use of space in the ISO high cube maritime container through denser packaging.
To achieve a good level of densification of parts in the packaging, the supplier must adhere to the following calculation rule:
Calculation rule: Volume of the sum of the parts Packaging interior volume Part Length = 0.12m Width = 0.125m Height = 0.08m Volume = 0.12x0.125x0.08 = 0.0012m 3 Packaging
Densification ratio = (0.0012/0.00136)x100% = (0.882)x100%=88.2%
The densification ratio absolutely must be as close as possible to 100% in compliance with the maximum authorised weight.
2.5 Container densification
To achieve a good level of container filling, the supplier must develop the packaging in accordance with the size given in the specifications and the packaging recommendation expressed by the engineering department. The proposed range of packaging is based on: - returnable package (metal Handling Unit or plastic Packaging Unit) - "disposable" cardboard packages or in exceptional cases in wooden packages (cardboard or wooden Handling Unit and cardboard Packaging Unit).
Reminder: 40-Foot High Cube container size Exterior: 12,192mm x 2,438mm x 2,900m Interior: 12,010mm x 2,340mm x 2,690mm (2,590mm to the door)
Division name: DFLM Date: 12/12/2012 RPIFSLRSC20120030 Department name: DIFIP RENAULT PROPERTY OVERSEAS packaging specifications for parts suppliers
8 88 8 3 General recommendations
3.1 Returnable packages
A commitment between RENAULT and the supplier must be co-signed prior to deploying the packages (see supplier portal, PVS (Packaging Visibility System) tool). These packages are strictly dedicated to the supply of parts to RENAULT plants. The supplier will use suitable handling equipment. It will have to manage the stock and ensure the cleanliness of these packages.
2 types of packaging available (Appendix page 18):
- Plastic cases that can be gripped by hand (PU) - Metal packages (HU)
The supplier shall, at RENAULT's request, use this type of packaging. The supplier will thus be informed at the time of requesting the DCL sheet. Finally, the allocation of returnable packaging will be RENAULT's responsibility.
3.2 Disposable packages
2 types of packaging available (Appendices page 16 and 17)
- Cardboard boxes that can be gripped by hand (PU) - Cardboard boxes clamped to the pallet (HU) - Exceptional case: Wood crates (HU).
Cardboard packaging is to be preferred to the wooden packaging given the cost of materials and ergonomic constraints. Nevertheless wooden packaging offers greater resistance and is therefore appropriate for packaging heavy parts.
3.2.1 Cardboard packaging units (PU):
Standard composition (packaging size and resistance compliant with PU cardboard pads)
Cardboard box with bell cover The outside cover of the cardboard box absolutely must be made of KRAFT. By way of an exception, we accept the use of 1,000 or 1,200mm cardboard boxes provided that the part measures approx. 1,000 or 1,200mm. The packaging must be closed by plastic strapping or adhesive tape, excluding staples and metal ties. The use of PVC adhesive tape is prohibited.
Maximum weight: 15 kg max. Exception: package size > 1,000mm: 10 kg max.

9 99 9 Additional surface and closing of the cardboard box packaging (example for oxidisable parts)
Palletising (PU or HU rounded delivery)
Standard composition
Wood compliant with Standard ISPM No. 15* (marking of the pallet on 2 opposite sides) Dimensions: 1,200 x 1,000 x 145,5 bases Softwood choice 2. Maximum humidity 17%. Debarked timber. Assembly using three 60mm nails twisted at each intersection. Pallet diagram: www.galia.com
The load must be distributed over the surface of the pallet. The palletised load may not extend beyond the surface of the pallet. The successive layers must be superimposed. The superimposed stacking provides greater vertical compressive strength. All deliveries must be made by full and single reference* bed *excluding PU rounded delivery
The block thus formed must not exceed the height of 1,250 mm (pallet included). Weight 250 kg max. (unless exempt by the ILN Engineering department concerned if heavier) All cardboard boxes must be grouped together on the wooden pallet and joined by covering or stretch wrapping. ILN reserves the right to request additional protection to reinforce the safety of parts (opaque film, etc.) If the supplier deems it necessary, it may also add cardboard corner pieces and a lid as shown in the picture in order to strengthen the assembly. Position the VCI bag and parts Line the parts with hermetically-sealed VCI Tape the VCI

There are 2 ways to attach the lid to the packaging. Depending on the supplier's resources, the lid may either be:
Toy tabbed at the places provided for this purpose
Or...
Strapped with plastic strips. The fact of strapping the pallet and cardboard box simultaneously makes the module more resistant during handling by forklift. The strips must not be placed under the pallet. PVC and metal strips are prohibited. The strip must be sealed, either by a seam, or a plastic or metallic u-clip. Reinforcements may be put between the lid and the strip.
Storage
The heaviest packaging must occupy the lower level.
* Special case: It is essential to add 4 cardboard corner pieces in the angles between the casing and belt for cardboard packages weighing more than 400 kg. The length of the corner pieces will be the same as the height of the cardboard box belt.
Stacking (rule used in ILNs) for information.
The set of packages being transported supports a maximum dynamic load of 750 kg.
The stacked total height for transport (including the lower load), shall not exceed 2,550 mm.

The supplier shall: Follow the imparted packaging recommendation Follow the specifications and corrosion prevention white paper Make the parts denser in the packaging. Use the DCL sheet in ENGLISH and write it up exclusively in ENGLISH: - Technical description, photos of the packaging and costs of related materials, + labour for RNPO.
The ILN Engineering department shall: - validate the DCL sheet technically for 1 st delivery (parts in bulk in the package: screws, plastic clips, etc.) but it may, in some cases, be called into question by the final customer. - Refuse the DCL sheet, where necessary, and add comments as well as any proposals for improvement. If necessary, the Engineering department may provide assistance to fill out the form. The completeness and accuracy of the information is essential to draft the DCL. Without these aspects, ILN's technical validation will not be granted.
5.2 Fill out the DCL sheet - important points
- The instruction manual inside the tab helps the supplier fill in all the fields.
Important points:
- The ILN text box absolutely must be checked (above). - Clearly indicate all the packaging materials and price-related information - Always provide the outer dimensions of the packaging - The DCL sheet must include the pictures to visualise the packaging at the various stages of preparation: - packaging empty - packaging being filled - packaging filled In some cases, the Engineering department may accept scans (for parts under study).
