Fittings and Pipe Connections 2012 - Report on Situation and Trends in Europe
The last report on the market situation and trends for ttings and pipe connections in Europe had
been published by KWD-globalpipe in 2007. Since then the development of connecting techniques
for pipe systems has been rapid with no end in sight.
Youd think in the meantime the entire innovation strength of the pipe systems
industry has been focused on this area. This has led to numerous more or less
convincing tting solutions mostly aimed at simplifying the connecting process
and/or shortening the installation time. From tool-free compression joints and
raxial press ttings to push t ttings in a variety of dierent designs - there
seem to be no limits to imagination.
On the other hand well-tried techniques gain renewed popular-
ity. Thus, polyfusion welding, also known as hot plate socket welding,
has recently been employed for metal-composite pipes and been pre-
sented as groundbreaking.
In the same way, the almost old-fashioned radial press
tting has gone a long way to be the worldwide industrial
standard. Sophisticated designs, large quantities and increas-
ing compatibility of pressing tools have paved the way for
that.
In light of this stream of innovations it is increasingly dif-
cult even for experts to keep track of things. Which t-
ting made of which material is best suited for which type of
pipe and application? What is the dierence between the join-
ing techniques available and which are the most important sup-
pliers? The aim of this report is to provide an overview
of major developments and trends in the recent past as well
as of the major European suppliers of pipe connecting prod-
ucts. Because of the importance of some companies from out-
side Europe, we have included their tting program in our list-
ings.
Maybe it is thus possible to give answers to the most important ques-
tions and provide assistance with regard to nding the ideal pipe
connection.

The Report includes the printed book as well a CD with the market report as a pdf-le and the listing of
ttings as well as the consumption of ttings in Europe as Excel-les.

Volume Trends for Fittings
Volume trends for ttings for heating and plumbing pipe systems
As opposed to pipes only limited long-term statistical and trend information is available for ttings and pipe
connections in heating and plumbing systems. Thus, it is hard to paint a reliable picture of volume trends. One
reason for that might be the larger number of manufacturers and the much larger variety of types compared
to the pipe market so that the data collection is much more dicult.
Besides, ttings are just underappreciated plain and simple pipeline components or pipe accessories which
have not received the same attention of statisticians as the market situation for pipe. Wrongly so, considering
that the percentage of value for ttings and pipes is 2:1 for an average installation!

The number of ttings is divided by applications into underoof/surface heating and cooling systems, ra-
diator connection, sanitary systems as well as in heating & plumbing systems which is a total of the rst
three applications. For each application, the ttings for the most important pipe materials are shown in a chart.

German Translation / Grundlagenkapitel in Deutsch
Da wir wissen, dass in vielen Unternehmen En-
glisch Konzernsprache ist und somit solche Stu-
dien fast immer in englischer Sprache bestellt
werden, lohnt es sich leider fr uns kaum,
diese Studien auch in deutscher Sprache her-
auszugeben.
