SYNOPSIS

ENGINEERING PLANT TECHNOLOGY provides an introduction to plant technology,
such as steam powered plant, steam turbine, gas turbine plant, diesel power plant,
compressed air plant and water pump.


COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO)

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

1. relate the concept and technology apply in industry for the different types of
power plant system (C6)

2. sketch basic diagram of different types of power plant and water pump
based on its application and function (C3)

3. Identify the regulation and procedure require for every power plant and
water pump system apply in its industry (A4).

SUMMARY (30 LECTURE: 00 PRACTICAL)

1.0 STEAM POWER PLANT ( 08: 00)

This topic describes the steam power plant application, main
components of a steam power plant, boilers, the various
connections to boiler and the types of boiler, construction, function
of 13 essentials fitting, the purpose and use of heat conserving
equipment / thermal insulation facility of a steam power plant also
discussed.

2.0 GAS TURBINE POWER PLANT (06 : 00)

This topic provides understanding of gas turbine applications,
advantages and disadvantages, the simple gas turbine plant,
classifications of gas turbine power plant, open cycle and closed
cycle gas turbine plant, gas turbine fuel, combination gas turbine
cycles, main gas turbines components, and plant arrangement.

3.0 DIESEL POWER PLANT (06 : 00)

This topic describes applications of diesel power plants, heat
engines, classification of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), four
strokes cycle, two strokes cycle diesel engine, comparison,
essential components and plant layout

4.0 COMPRESSED AIR PLANT (05 : 00)

This topic introduces on the arrangement, tools and usage of
compressed air plant. This topic explains on the advantages of
using compressed air as task agent by providing examples of
usage.

5.0 WATER PUMP (05 : 00)

This topic explains the effectiveness and main parts of water
pump. This topic also explains on the operation of positive shifted
pump and centrifugal pump, and comparing between hydrostatic
pump and hydrodynamic pump.

ASSESSMENT


The course assessment is carried out in two sections:

i. Coursework (CA)
Coursework is continuous assessment that measures knowledge,
technical skills and soft skills.

ii. Final Examination (FE)
Final examination is carried out at the end of the semester.

The percentage ratio of FE to CA shall follow the guideline stated in the Arahan-
Arahan Peperiksaan dan Kaedah Penilaian which is approved by the Lembaga
Peperiksaan dan Penganugerahan Sijil/ Diploma Politeknik.
