I am a proven Entry-level Reporter and Radio
Producer with extensive experience in the
workings of radio, film, information and research
gathering, and journalism writing. I have a
successful track record of managing the 2MCE Local Newsroom, ensuring
accurate and timely reporting in addition to pre-recorded, fortnightly radio
shows with 2MCE.

My previous roles required the following competencies:

- An understanding of audio editing
- An appreciation for research
- Interpersonal skills for successful and engaging interviews
- Time management skills
- An interest in technology and rural based journalism

I am keen to develop these skills and build on new ones, and would be very
excited to work for your station. Of particular interest within this opportunity is
the chance to develop skills in print and online mediums, as well as discover
more stories across rural Australia. I am also keen to learn new skills through the
training and mentoring involved with the role.

In return, I will aspire to do my best in terms of picking up new skills and trying
new things, in order to get straight into the gist of things immediately. With my
entry-level experience and gusto to learn new things, I believe I would make a
valuable addition to the station.

Experience

2012

TV Newsroom Simulations
During the beginning of my communications degree I undertook volunteer work
for the student run live TV show See.See.Eye as a host, reporter and general
banterer. The show ran weekly and ran for six months - which required me to
run live interviews, live discussions with fellow students and produce video
content ranging from 3 to 4 minutes every third episode. This work also required
me to work with a team of dedicated students who collaborated on the project as
camera operators and film technicians.

Outdoor Shooting Experience
At the Bathurst 1000 of 2012 I undertook volunteer work for Channel 7 as a tape
runner for a mobile cameraman and as an assistant. The work required me to be
a reliable assistant, to put forward camera angle suggestions to the cameraman
and to efficiently take care and handle expensive equipment, while helping the
associated film crews by any means.

2013

Local Newsroom
I have also undertaken paid and unpaid work as the head journalist of the 2MCE
local newsroom for 12 months. The requirements for this work included:

- Producing bulletins for on an hourly basis
- Presenting the bulletins on live radio unassisted and as a mentor to
younger students and peers within my graduating class
- Writing and analysing newsworthy content from a variety of online, print
and broadcast media

The work outcomes for these operations I have completed includes running the
newsroom solo for a week, operating the newsroom with students new to the
newsroom as the appropriate team leader and chasing stories of significant
interest to the 2MCE station. Please contact Rod Bloomfield The News Editor
and Senior Supervisor of the station on 63386 58 or 0408 692 179.

Pre-recorded, self researched Radio Shows
I was a successful applicant for paid work at 2MCE, where I was given the reins
to running the Homepage pre produced radio show every fortnight for 13
months. The requirements of this job included:

- Researching and devising a new topic in the sciences every fortnight
- Investigating newsworthy talent from a range of universities across
Australia and internationally
- Scripting the show for an audience in a similar style to EastWest ABC
- Producing the radio show through a mix of interest in my research and
knowledge of radio production software and hardware.
- Talents that were contacted & the topics that were covered

This job was most enjoyable in terms of learning outcomes and challenges,
requiring me to improve my radio voice for a much more relaxed audience and
allowing me to use the 2MCE station as a means to research, produce and publish
online some interesting scientific breakthroughs and research investigations.

Independent and a team worker
I also took in a part time job at Woolworths as a cashier to pay for weekly
expenses, allowing me to take a hand at juggling a few jobs every week as well as
completing weekly university study. Not only does this showcase the fact that I
can juggle a mix of tasks and manage my time effectively as I have shown, but
also that I have been able to work on my people skills and employing my
customer service skills learnt in this trade to my journalism work that I have
completed throughout my second and third years.

2014

Film work and rural research
I completed work experience for Big Stories, Small Towns as a cameraman
working with a 3 man team with Jenny Ainge (0425264379) which allowed me
to get a hands on with a filming project involving endurance horse riding in the
Cowra region. This project, as well as several others in the Cowra region, gave
me a greater appreciation for the rural working of country New South Wales. I
am highly capable of:

- Doing select film work solo or with assistance, as well as interviewing
talent on camera
- The filming of moving objects and creating content for a relatively new
subject (horse riding)
- Quickly gaining an interest in a new topic
- Creating content for a rural audience
- Covering rural topics ranging from impacts of coal mining on the local
economy to Indigenous Land Ownership in the region

An assessment involving the simulated daily production of a student newspaper
aimed to simulate Al Jazeera News has allowed me to continue to advance my
writing skills, sub editing skills, working to solid deadlines for 2 straight weeks
and learning to work as part of a team.

I have a recommendation from Rodney Bloomfield, the news director of 2MCE
FM, down below.

To Whom It May Concern.

This letter is to confirm that Reece Middleton has worked for me as a Cadet at
2MCE Regional News, for the period from April 2013 to July 2014.

Duties included producing and presenting 3 live radio news bulletins and 2 pre-
recorded bulletins each weekday servicing the central west region via radio
2MCE.

As a Cadet, Reece refined his news writing, presentation, interview and editing
skills.

The newsroom operates the Newsboss program and all Cadets are required to
become proficient in its operation.

The Cadet role in the local newsroom also includes extensive mentoring of
younger journalism students within the newsroom environment.

A high level of independence must be displayed by Cadets, as they are required
to operate the newsroom with minimum senior supervision for a section of the
year.

Reece handled this responsibility extremely well.

I found Reece to be a conscientious and valuable member of the Cadet program
team.

I wish Reece all the best in the future and have no hesitation recommending him
to you.

If you wish to contact me directly I will be happy to provide any further
information you require.

Yours Sincerely

Rod Bloomfield.
