Lesson 1: 6/19/2014

I. Introduction:

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent,
the Merciful.
All praise is to Allaah, Lord of the
Worlds, and the (praiseworthy) end is
for the believers, and the Prayers
(meaning, may He Raise in Rank) of
Allaah upon Muhammad, the seal of the Prophets, and upon all the Prophets and Messengers.

II. Topic: Benefits from the Muqaddimah of the Sahih of Imaam Muslim:

[21]: Abu Ayyub Sulayman ibn
UbaydAllah al-Ghaylani narrated to
me: Abu Amir meaning al-Aqadi-
narrated to us: Rabah narrated to us
from Qays ibn Sad on Mujahid who
said: Bushayr ibn Kab al-Adawi
came to Ibn Abbas (radiyallaahu
anhu) and began to narrate saying:
The Messenger of Allah
(sallallahualayhiwasallam) said
Ibn Abbas did not listen to his
narration and did not look at him. He
said to him: O Ibn Abbas! Why is it I
do not see you paying attention to my
Hadith? I narrate to you from the Messenger of Allah and you do not listen. Ibn Abbas
(radiyallaahu anhu) said: At one time, if we heard a man say: The Messenger of Allaah
(sallallahualayhiwasallam) said we used to hasten to him and pay close attention. However,
when the people began to take the sound along with the weak, we only took from the people what
we knew [to be authentic].

Benefits:
- Turn away from those who narrate weak and fabricated ahadith.
- Give full attention to Hadith when studying a half effort does not suffice.
- Do not be distracted while listening to narrations. Use the eyes to look and the ears to hear
utilizing them so that the narrations settle in the heart.
(Pg. 62-64, al-Ithyubi)

[26]: Hasan ibn al-Rabi
narrated to us: Hammad ibn
Zayd narrated to us from
Ayyub and Hiham he said
and Makhlad ibn Husayn
narrated to us from Hisham on Muhammad ibn Sirin who said: Indeed, this knowledge
1
is
religion
2
, so look to whom you take your religion from.

1 He is alluding to the science of Hadith
2 Meaning worship, for indeed religion is an expression of worship. The author of al-Qamus
mentions that Din (religion) has many different meanings, and from them: worship, Tawhid, and
every act of obedience to Allah.
(Pg. 70, al-Ithyubi)

III. Topic: Benefits from Ubaid al-Jaabirees commentary of the Three
Fundamental Principles:

Knowledge of Four Matters are Essential:
a) Knowledge
(Knowledge of Allah with the proofs)
(Knowledge of His Prophet with the proofs)
(Knowledge of Islam with the proofs)
b) Action upon that.
c) Calling to that.
d) Patience on that path bearing the difficulties on the way.
And the proof:
Surah al-Asr is a proof for four matters, all mentioned in the last ayah.

It is reported upon Ali ibn Abee Taalib (radiallaahu anhu) that he said:
If the religion was based on the intellect, then the bottom of the leather sock would be more
deserving to be wiped than the top.
Reported by Abu Dawood (162), Shaykh al-Albaanee declared this narration authentic in al-
Irwaa (103).

Imaam Maalik used to say at the end of his lessons:
All speech can be accepted or rejected, except for the speech of the inhabitant of that grave
Siyar Alaam an-Nubalaa 98/93)

Imaam Ahmad used to say:
Everyone has their opinion accepted or rejected, except the Prophet (sallaahualaihi
wasallam).
Found in Masaail by Abu Dawood (p.276) who heard Imaam Ahmad
(Pg 23-24, al-Jaabiree)

IV. Conclusion: Knowledge is the base of the religion. Be cautious!
