POLICIES

PICK UP AND DROP OFF
To ensure the best start to the day for all children, we ask you to keep
your good-bye brief. How students transition into school can greatly
determine the success of their day. Most of the time, children settle very
soon after parents depart. Prolonging the good-bye, especially if a child
is upset will increase their anxiety once inside school. This, in turn, can
adversely affect other students already in the classroom. For this reason,
we ask you to remain at the door of the classroom at drop-off.

Drop off begins at 8:30AM for the morning class and 12:30PM for the
afternoon class. Once inside the school, children will start working. Maria
Montessori stresses the working cycles to be very crucial in childrens
formation and they must not be interrupted. If you know youll be late,
please text the school at 801-920-8095 with an L for late or A for
absent. Ms. Iris needs to lock the door as soon as all children are in. If
youll be late, please refrain from knocking. The teachers will notice you at
the door. Please remind your child to enter quietly and without disrupting
others. After children do their routine, there will be Circle Time. Times
varies because we follow the child. Though, the general time its between
8:45-9:00 and 12:45-1:00 respectively. Circle time introduces subject
knowledge through singing and play, builds attention span, focus skills,
cooperation, turn taking, etc. Interruptions and distractions hinder children.
If you need to pick up your child early, please text. No need to knock,
your child will be quietly notified and a teacher will assist them getting
ready. Please give your child 15 minute notice to put work away and get
ready.

Please pick your child up promptly at the end of class (11:30 or 3:30). If
you arrive after 11:45 or 3:45 a late fee of $10 per 10 minutes will be
assessed.

TUITION and ATTENDANCE
Tuition is due on the first of every month, one month in advance.
(ex. Tuition for September is due August 1
st
.)
The monthly fee is based on a yearly tuition and divided by 9 months in a
School Year. The tuition is the same regardless of how many school days
are in any particular month.
You can pay:
*Through the Pay Now button/link in your invoice email.
*In person by check, money order, or cash.
Your prompt payment is appreciated. After the 5
th
day of the month
tuition is considered late and a $25 Late Fee will be assessed.
If you pay the entire year up front and need to leave for any reason, you
will be refunded a prorated amount based on how many months there are
remaining in the school year.
If you are withdrawing, we ask for 30 days notice, so we will have time to
fill your childs spot. If we do not receive adequate notice we will consider
your childs spot still taken and you will forfeit the current months tuition.

There is NO REFUND given for the enrollment Fee.

The 5 day session is Monday through Friday. The minimum number of
enrolled days is 4 (Monday through Thursday). There are no make-
up days for illness or any other absences. Please only bring your child on
the specified days you have chosen to enroll, in order to maintain our
student teacher ratio, and ensure there are enough materials and supplies
for our projects.

REFERRALS
If you brag about how wonderful your childs school is and it results in a
completed enrollment, you will receive a $40 discount off the following
months tuition! Please tell your referral to mention your name.

DRESS
Please ensure your child wears comfortable clothing to school that allows
freedom of movement.
-Pants that your child can easily get on and off to use the restroom.
-Shoes that slip on and off will enable your child to be part of the entire
outside time.
-Some children prefer to wear slippers in the classroom to protect socks
from extra wear, and for extra comfort while working. Please provide one
pair of snuggly fitting, Velcro slippers with your childs name in permanent
marker to keep at the school. (please avoid characters or other
distracting additions.)
-Please avoid graphic character clothing. (e.g. Princess, Superhero etc.)
Maria Montessori disapproves of fantasy at such an early age. Children
this age need to be connected and understand their environment, they
need to know what is real. This helps them for a positive Self-Concept/
Self-esteem. When a child has an action figure or a princess on their
shirt it can inspire boisterous re-enactments. Please help your child
succeed by keeping the distractions to a minimum.
We keep a supply of extra clothes in a variety of childrens sizes to loan
in case of spills or accidents. If you feel your child would be more
comfortable in their own clothes or need to change frequently please send
a change of clothes in a gallon plastic bag with the childs name on the
front in permanent marker. We will keep it at the school in case your child
needs it.

Throughout the school year we will be going out unless it is unusually windy,
raining or snowing heavily, or below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Please dress
your child appropriately for outdoor play. (Snow pants, boots, gloves, etc.)

POTTY LEARNING
Your child must be able to use the restroom independently to enroll.
Stretchy pants or sweat pants that are slightly loose fitting are perfect for
tiny hands. We ask that you send a change of clothes in a gallon plastic
bag with their name on the front and that they come to school in regular
cotton underpants. When they have an accident we can only verbally
assist them with cleaning and changing into clean clothes from outside the
bathroom door. If they have a more severe accident, we need someone to
be near that we can call to either come and assist them with cleaning up
or take them home for a bath.

HEALTH
-A child with deep or uncontrollable coughing belongs at home even
without a fever. A child with cough and fever must stay home from school
for at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of a
fever, without the use of fever-reducing medicine.
-Children who have vomited or had diarrhea should be kept at home and
should return to school only after being symptom-free for 24 hours.
-Any child with a fever of 100F or higher should not attend school and
should not return until they have been fever free for 24 hours, without

the use of fever-reducing medicine.
-A child with flu-like illness (fever and a cough) must stay home from
school for at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of
a fever, without the use of fever-reducing medicine.
- To provide head lice treatment, keep your child home for a minimum of
two school days.
-A child with pink eye symptoms (red, Itchy, draining eyes) should be kept
at home until evaluated by a medical provider and return to school after
the drainage clears.
-Keep a child at home and contact a medical provider for a severe sore
throat and if white spots are seen in the back of the throat, with or without
a fever.
-A child with green mucous should be kept at home until the drainage
clears.

SNACKS
A nutritious simple snack is available to students during the work cycle
(from 9:15 AM -10:45AM and 1:15 2:45 PM). They are free to eat
by themselves or with a friend as soon as they have completed a
classroom work. Snack preparation is a daily job, assigned to a student and
is carried out with teacher supervision. All children will have the opportunity
to be involved in this activity at some point throughout the school year.

BIRTHDAYS AND OTHER SPECIAL OCCASIONS
If you would like to send a special treat for your childs birthday we
suggest non-food items (such as small toys) or a fruit plate for your child
to share. Please do not send any heavily frosted item (cupcakes, cookies
etc.) Muffins work better.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Our Parent Committee plans our field trips, holiday parties and other
special events. If you would like to join, please use the si gn-up sheet
posted onl i ne.
We will also be taking appointments for Observation times, after the first
six weeks of school. There will be a guideline sheet for you to read before
attending the school. Children behave differently when theres a guest,
specially if it is their own parent. We hope the guideline will help you
observe with more accurateness.

PARENT CONCERNS/MEETINGS
We are always available before children arrive or after children depart
to discuss any questions or concerns. Drop-off and Pick-up times are
usually very involved for the teachers. Our first concern and focus is
safety. We would love to give you our full attention. Please call to make
an appointment.

We will be sending out a monthly newsletter with information on special
events and what is going on in the class and pictures will be sent to you
(Text), posted on our website or facebook page.
Please be sure we have your most up to date email address and phone

DISCIPLINE
Our goal is to create a learning environment for your children, with an
atmosphere of caring based on kindness and firmness that develops mutual
respect, cooperation and responsibility. We utilize the methods prescribed
by Maria Montessori in her writings (especially The Secret of Childhood)
for redirecting students into meaningful work and the problem solving
techniques developed by Jane Nelsen, as detailed in her book Positive
Discipline in the Classroom.

We encourage all parents to read these two publications or all of Maria
Montessoris works for other important topics. They are available for
checkout in our Parent Lending Library. Ask a teacher for help with
checking a book in or out. You could also find some of Maria Montessoris
work as pdf files on the web. If you have great parenting books to
donate, we would be more than happy to have them.
