Instruction Sheet
WINTERIZATION KIT A029X022
The winterization kit is used on the Home Standby
Generator Set for poweringuptothreeheaters tofa-
cilitate starting in cold temperatures. The kit can
provide power to carburetor and engine oil heaters,
and an alternator heater/dryer. The kit contains the
following parts for installation.

Figure 1 illustrates the heater harness. The proce-
dures that follow describe harness and heater
installations.

HEATER KIT INSTALLATION
1. Shut downthegenerator set, anddisconnect all
power from the house to the generator set.
WARNING Hazardous Voltage. Disconnect
the source that supplies 120 Vfor the heater
kit before installing the kit.
2. Remove the roof, service doors, finger guard,
and back panel.
WARNING Accidental or remote starting
can cause severe personal injury or death.
Disconnect the negative (- ) cable at the bat-
tery to prevent the engine from starting be-
fore installing the kit.
3. Removethenegative(--) cablefromthebattery.
4. Install the entrance box on the side panel. See
Figure 3.
5. Attach a J--clip to the muffler bracket bolt. See
Figure 2.
6. Attach the heater harness to the J--clip.
7. Route the wires for the AC power connection
through the knockout on the side panel into the
entrance box mounted on the opposite side.
See Figure 2.

INSTALLING THE ALTERNATOR
HEATER/DRYER
1. Make sure the alternator is clean to ensure that
the heater/dryer will stick.
2. Peel the backing from one side of the heater/
dryer, and adhere it to the end of the alternator
near the side panel (top, bottom, or under-
neath).
3. Connect the heater/dryer to the harness con-
nector.
INSTALLING THE OIL HEATER
1. Drain all the oil from the engine.
2. Route the heater harness behind the alternator
to the back rear of the engine, securing it to the
engine harness with tie wrap.
3. Remove the rear engine oil drain plug. See Fig-
ure 3.
4. Thread the oil heater into the engine, making
sure to use the copper ring to seal. Torque the
heater to 24 ft--lbs (30 N--m).
5. Connect the oil heater to the harness.
6. Refill the engine with 1.7 quarts (1.6 liters) of
Mobil1 0W-40 engine oil.

CONNECTING THE CARBURETOR
HEATER
1. Route the heater cable underneath the engine
to the front.
2. Attach a J--clip to a bolt on the front of the en-
gine. See Figure 4.
3. Remove three bolts to remove the air cleaner
base. See Figure 5.
4. Loosen the set screwon the carburetor spacer.
5. Insert the carburetor heater into the hole in the
spacer (on the side of the spacer that faces the
side panel). See Figure 6.
6. Tighten the set screw to secure the carburetor
heater.
7. Coat where the carburetor heater meets the
face of the spacer with RTV sealant.
8. Attach the air cleaner base, making sure the
breather hose is securely attached with the
spring clip.
9. Connect the carburetor heater to the harness.

AC CONNECTIONS
1. Bring utility AC power into the entrance box
mounted on the side panel.
2. Connect the AC utility power to the heater har-
ness.
3. Attach the entrance box cover.
4. Apply the warning label to the cover.
5. Verify operation of the heaters.
6. Reinstall the back panel, finger guard, service
door, and roof.
