The Menomonee Falls School Board approved a preliminary
budget that will be presented to the public during the annual meet-
ing next month.
According to information from the district, the proposed levy will
be $38,668,835, a 1.02 percent reduction from the current levy.
Under the current projections, the tax rate will be 12.35 per $1,000
equalized valuation, a .02 percent reduction from the current equal-
ized levy rate.
(The equalized property value, used to determine the equalized
levy rate, is a figure that is derived from all properties in the district,
which includes lands that are in the Villages of Butler and Lannon
and small portion in the city of Milwaukee in addition to the majori-
ty of property which is within the Village of Menomonee Falls).
The general fund revenues for the district under the proposed
budget will be $47,175,573, a reduction of .62 percent from the
current budget .
Under the proposed budget, a net total of 4.03 full time posi-
tions will be eliminated at a savings of $281,847, including 1.45
custodial and maintenance positions, one special education staff
person (due to a decrease in the number of students with disabili-
ties), and a total of one full-time educational assistant. Other posi-
tions will not be eliminated entirely but hours will be reduced .
Also under reductions, the district will be dropping a contract
with Childrens Community Center (CCC) for 4-year-old kinder-
garten and incorporating those students into the early learning cen-
ter at Ben Franklin Elementary School.
At the start of discussion on the budget, District Business Services
Director Jeff Gross explained that all school districts in the state start

Washington Countys Aquatic Invasive
Species (AIS) Coordinator, Bradley Steckart, is
hosting a Clean Boats, Clean Waters course
to learn how to protect the waters by inspect-
ing boats as they are entering and exiting
water bodies. This event is being held on
Tuesday, Aug. 26, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Public
Agency Center in West Bend (333 East
Washington Street, Suite 3224, West Bend.
Anyone who enjoys the boating, fishing,
swimming, or the aesthetic value of the lakes in
Washington County can attest that Aquatic
Invasive Species pose a near-future threat to
the enjoyment of the lakes in our area. Many
people are asking questions such as:
Which species of aquatic plants and
animals are invasive and why?
How did the Aquatic Invasive Species
get here?
What is being done to prevent the
spread of AIS?
What are the laws about AIS and how
are they enforced?
This event is free and open to the public.
No pre-registration is needed. For more infor-
mation, contact Bradley Steckart, AIS
Coordinator at (262) 335-4806 or
bradley.steckart@co.washington.wi.us.
Those who are interested in attending and
becoming a volunteer should meet in Room
3224 of the Public Agency Center on
Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m.

Species control efforts visit

PET OF THE WEEK
Hi Everyone! My name is Peabody, and
I was brought to WCHS as a stray dog.
I am approximately 12 years old, and
am a handsome Yorkie mix. I do not
care for other dogs, so I must be the
only king in my new palace. I do like cats though, so I
wouldn't mind a feline sibling or two. Due to the fact that I
am hard of hearing, I do need a calm home environment. I
would do best around children age 10 or older. Please come
in and ask for Peabody.

Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter
Dear Dr. Winter, I spent a lot of time on your website and
want to know the best way to have implants. I have read a lot
about same day teeth, implants in a day, all on 4 and its very
confusing.
Dear Jamie, the type of implant treatment you have depends
upon a lot of factors such as the amount of bone you have, the
quality of the bone, your budget, your goals and your overall
health. When we do treatment plans for patients we use a
concept Dr. Winter has published articles about called
Upgradeable Dentistry. This concept acknowledges that each
patient has different needs, wants, desires and budgets. So
patients can select options that sequentially improve a persons
condition until they get the type of implant prosthesis they
desire.
If a patient wants 4 implants to support an entire missing arch
of teeth the treatment called All-On-4 can be an option and in
some instances teeth can be made to sit on these implants on the
same day as they are placed. The problem is that loading or
putting forces on implants the day they are placed depends on
having dense bone so the insertion of the implants is solid and it
takes a certain amount of torque to insure the implants are tight
enough to place forces on them or they can fail. This is one type
of treatment that can be successful and while it has plenty of
literature to support this concept the use of more implants is the
philosophy that we use in our practice. Having 7-9 implants to
support 14 missing teeth distributes forces over more posts
than just 4 posts. In performing surgery and restorative
treatment we offer discounts based upon the number of implants
placed so we can make implant treatment more affordable.
By offering mini-implants, snap-on-dentures, cement
retained dentures, full porcelain bridges on implants we can
provide services that fit every budget. For those that wish more
extensive treatment we have several interest free financing
options that you can learn about on our website:
www.hamptondentalassociates.com
Dear Dr. Winter how do I know if I should have my teeth
removed and have implants versus periodontal surgery for the
third time?
Dear Charles, periodontal surgery will remove diseased gum
tissue, smooth the bone to make it more cleansable and should
only need to be done one time, ideally to help preserve teeth that
didnt respond to traditional deep cleanings. When someone
needs multiple surgeries it could be a sign that significant bone
has been lost. The discussion that needs to occur would be how
long you wish to retain your teeth and are they causing any pain
or cosmetic problems. Sometimes teeth that have lost bone
have black triangles that represent where bone has been lost.
This recession can create a smile that looks long in the tooth
or esthetically displeasing.
Once a persons chief concerns are addressed the options
can be discussed, the tissues evaluated and the budget
understood so the best treatment can be rendered based upon a
persons conditions.
We would be happy to perform a second opinion
or comprehensive examination and x-ray visit for our
readers! Please call us at 414-464-9021 to schedule your
visit. We invite you to visit our new website at
www.hamptondentalassociates.com For photos and videos of
our dentistry and information about implants and cosmetics.
We look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Richard Winter

their budget process with a structural deficit, in
which projected expenses are higher than pro-
jected revenues which are allowed through the
state levy revenue limit. He said the district has
made adjustments and the budget has been
balanced since March.
During board discussion, Superintendent
Patricia Greco referenced the Aa2 bond rating
the district received from Moodys Investors
Services. Additionally, the district has saved
$2.5 million in health and benefit costs over
the past several years.
The district preliminary budget report also
lists several other points of pride for the dis-
trict, including:
A 32 percent reduction in post employ-
ment benefits;
Approximately $5.8 million in cost avoid-
ance for energy and utility services;
50 co-curricular and athletic offerings;
More than 40 college-level courses
being offered through the district; and,
Receiving the Red Quill award from ACT
testing services;
Budget goals listed in the document
include prioritizing the strategies to improve
student academic achievement, staff perform-
ance and continuous improvement in all
departments and at each school level in order
to prepare students to well and to exceed at
the expected performance levels, sustaining
class size at an appropriate level, program-
ming to ensure students make successful col-
lege and career transitions, sustain effective
operations, and safeguard taxpayers interest
investment in the district schools by sustaining
high performance.
Also...
Included in the budget is an increase in the
capital improvement cost budget of $697,450
to complete Ben Elementary School remodel-
ing in one summer instead of two summers.

The Menomonee Falls Village Board
made a special presentation to a senior citi-
zen volunteer Aug. 4 while officials with
Waukesha Countys Senior Meal program
sought to get the word out about the need for
more volunteers.
Village President Randy Newman read a
special commendation for volunteer Sylvia
Greytak which noted that Greytak volunteers
five days a week to the Menomonee Falls
senior meal site at the Menomonee Falls
Community Center and travels by bus to reg-
ister diners and is a warm and welcoming
volunteer for any and all the seniors of the
Menomonee Falls Community Center.
You make Menomonee Falls a great
place to live and we appreciate your efforts.
Youre certainly an example of what every-
body can do and go above and beyond,
Newman said.
Michael Lasko, a registered dietician who
oversees the senior health program for
Waukesha County, explained that the county
has 10 dining sites where seniors receive
nutritious lunchtime meals. In addition, there
is a Meals on Wheels component to the
program at nine locations in which meals are
packaged and sent to seniors at home set-
tings.
Diane Norris, Director of Dining Services
at the Aging and Disability Resource Center
of Waukesha County, said 10 to 30 resi-
dents come to the Menomonee Falls site for
meals while another 15 are delivered to resi-
dents in the community.
Norris explained that volunteers are
needed to drive meals to a maximum of 20
residents in the community.
Its not just delivering meals, its seeing
seniors in their homes. Seeing them, if theyre
hurt or if theyve fallen, Norris said.
Sometimes youre the only person they see
all day, and youre the person that comes
back and tells me, Hey, I dont think theyre
doing so well today.
Norris explained the program doesnt
have drivers in the winter because the volun-
teer drivers are themselves seniors who are
wary of driving in winter conditions.
Norris said the program has kitchen help
which comes once or twice a week to get the
meals ready to serve.
Norris said it is exciting to be at the
Menomonee Falls location on a daily basis,
as she is learning about the life experiences
of many of the volunteers.
A lot of my drivers are veterans. I didnt
even know that theyre still serving their
country, theyre 80 years old, she said.

REJECTED BY HIS OWN
HE IS DESPISED AND REJECTED OF MEN; A MAN OF SORROWS, AND

The community is encouraged to attend a
fundraiser to help Ava Gehrung, a 9-year-old
girl from the town of Erin with serious medical
needs.
Adopted from China three years ago by
parents Brian and Nancy, Ava experienced a
stroke at birth that destroyed 75-percent of the
left side of her brain and has left her with
uncontrollable seizures as well as speech diffi-
culties and cognitive delays. Her family is in
great need of funds to help get her seizures
under control.
The fundraiser will be held Saturday, Sept.
6, noon to 3 p.m., at Trysting Place Pub, N71
W12980 Appleton Avenue. Admission is $20
for adults, $10 for children ages 5-12 and free
for children under age 5.
For the event, Buddy Love will perform
music from the 1950s, 60 and 70s, Bubbles
the Clown will offer painting and balloon mak-
ing, and a hula hoop contest will be held.
There will also be a 50-50 raffle, gift raffle
and bake sale.
Sal Zizzos famous pizza and beverages
will be available for purchase.
To volunteer or make a donation, call Bob
or Gloria Jean Howe at (262) 253-0397.
Donations can be sent to Bob and Gloria
Jean Siegel-Howe, P.O. Box 125, Menomonee
Falls, WI 53052-0125. Checks should be
made out to Brian Gehrung/Friends of Ava.

The Lannon Stonemen posted two upsets
last weekend to stay alive in the Land O'Lakes
Western Division playoffs. The sixth-seeded
Stonemen beat the West Bend 7 Up Aug. 9, 9-
7. The next day, Lannon traveled to Pewaukee
and defeated the Muskies the regular sea-
son champions in the Western Division 6-4.
Nick Erd pitched all nine innings for the win.
Lannon advanced to a 1 p.m. Aug. 16
game against the Brookfield Bulldogs at
McCoy Field in Brookfield. If the Stonemen
win, they will face Pewaukee the next day for
the Western Division title. The Western Division
formal requires that the regular season cham-
pion has to lose twice to be eliminated.
The Sussex Cardinals season came to an
end Aug. 9 with a 12-5 loss to the Brookfield
Blue Sox.

News & Events
Around the village and county
Golden shovels in hand; Presbyterian
Homes of Wisconsin (PHW) celebrated the offi-
cial groundbreaking on Wednesday, Aug. 6 for
Dickson Hollow senior living community.
Dickson Hollow will be constructed on a
23.5-acre site at the corner of Pilgrim and
Lisbon roads in Menomonee Falls. PHW chose
the site to meet the rapidly growing older adult
population. Its studies show that in Waukesha
County 12% of the population is over age 65
and is expected to increase to 16% over the
next 5 years. By 2030, 19% of Waukesha
Countys residents will be 65+ years of age.
This means that approximately 41,208 older
adults in the area will need support services.
Dan Lindh, President and CEO of Presbyterian
Homes & Services, the parent company of
PHW, said, Dickson Hollow is dedicated to
meeting the needs in the Greater Menomonee
Falls area for decades to come.
Matt Carran, Menomonee Falls Director of
Community Development expressed his appreci-
ation for how PHW has worked with the neigh-
borhood from the inception of the project. He
said that his office has received nothing but pos-
itive comments about the idea and plans for the
senior community. I think the neighborhood is
looking forward to Dickson Hollow being a part
of their community. He said.
The first phase of the project, anticipated to
open late Fall of 2015 and cost around $25 mil-
lion, will provide 180 senior living apartments.
Living options include 120 independent living
senior apartments and 42 assisted living apart-
ments and 18 memory care suites. The first phase
will also include the Town Center offering a
bistro and other dining options, theater, library,
club room, salon and wellness center and many
other amenities and services. Residents of the
senior community will be served by professional,
dedicated staff members who uphold the stan-
dard of excellence that is the signature of PHW.
Dickson Hollow is a unique joint venture
with Brookfield Presbyterian Church, which will
relocate to the campus when it opens. At the
heart of the community will be space dedicated
to the ministry and mission of the congregation.
The church will have approximately 2,500
square feet including program and administra-
tive space with a separate entrance. The exteri-
or of the church space will incorporate stained
glass windows from its current church property,
located about 5 miles away on Brookfield
Road, which is for sale.
The church space and housing campus will
share space that will be used for Sunday and
weekday worship services as well as other pro-
grams, performances and events.
Phase 2 will include 40 additional senior
apartments and 46 assisted living apartments
and memory care suites. Plans for the third
phase include a care center, brownstone row-
style homes and additional apartments. When
complete the community will offer 350 apart-
ments and suites within a full continuum of care.
Dickson Hollow is named after Sarah E.
Dickson who was a pioneering leader in the
Milwaukee Presbytery and a member of
Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church. In 1930,
Sarah became the first woman to be ordained
as a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church in
the United States of America (PCUSA).
Sarah Rand, Congregational Care
Coordinator of the Milwaukee Presbytery,
spoke about the faith and courage of Dickson
and her contemporary spiritual leaders to cross
the threshold of change to ordain her. She point-
ed to their history-making conviction as a model
for the Brookfield Presbyterian Church, the
Milwaukee Presbytery and PHW to build the
community to be named in her honor. Like the
leaders willing to break from tradition over 80
years ago, the project that we are starting today
requires leadership, foresight, careful planning,
philanthropy and a whole lot of courage. We
are all part of making history in breaking new
ground to enrich the lives of others, she said.
The project is designed by Insite Architects,
Minneapolis, MN. VJS Construction, Pewaukee,
WI, is the general contractor.

JACKSON CONCRETE
Wants to Help You
Save Your Concrete Investments!
As a Wisconsin homeowner, you are
required to perform regular preven-
tative maintenance in order to pre-
serve the beauty and value of your
home: You seal your windows, stain
your wooden exteriors, and wax
your vehicles. Your concrete drive-
ways are no exception.
The salt and de-icers that are used to
protect you from slippery conditions
can do significant damage to your
concrete.
** New concrete surfaces MUST be
sealed with a water repellant con-
crete hardener/sealer for the first 3
years.
** Old concrete and really old con-
crete has a better chance of surviving
the winter without damage if it is
sealed every other year or as the sur-
face sealer shows wear.
If you have a concrete driveway and
are unsure if its protected please call
and one of our associates will be
more than happy to speak with you.
(262) 335-2321
When the bitter cold and snow final-
ly begin to disappear, the last thing
you want to have to do is repair the
approach to your familys home.
See and purchase all your concrete
supplies at our showroom.
