New-look show hailed a success

CELEBRITY APPEAL: Fferm Factor judges Aled Rees and Professor Wynne Jones with Fferm Factors
new presenter Ifan Jones-Evans. (8840584)
HAILED as one of the most
successful shows in recent
years by many competitors and
exhibitors, Cardigan County
Show was blessed with superb
weather last Wednesday.
The showground was buzz-
ing and the new layout proved
to be popular with everyone.
The field had been divided
into two large rings, with one
ring specifically for family
entertainment and the other
for the equine sections, with
smaller rings for the cattle,
sheep and pigs further down
the field in their usual loca-
tions.
The new layout also provided
a better entry and exit system
for exhibitors from the lorry
park into the main rings.
Showsecretary, Alwyn Evans
was delighted with how the
day went.
He said: From my point of
view, the day went really well
and the weather was key to its
success.
The general feeling was that
all of the changes worked re-
ally well and the food tent was
very popular with a lot of ex-
citement throughout the day.
The change of layout worked
brilliantly, although we need to
look at a fewissues before next
year.
Introducing the Grandstand
was a great idea and many sat
watching the judging and the
displays. We had a variety of
stalls and most people were
happy with the day.
The Supreme Horse Cham-
pion was judged in the main
ring with Sara Whitfield, of
Penskyber Fawr, Letterston,
taking the 2014 title with her
show pony lead rein, with the
Reed Family, Tyngwndwn, in
reserve spot with the famous
Section D mare, Nebo Julie
Ann who is off to HOYS this
October. Supreme Champion
gelding was awarded to Hilary
Brockbank, of Rhoshill, who
is well-known for showing her
quality Section B ponies in
the area. Supreme Champion
in the Dairy Cattle Section
was awarded to Phillip Reed,
Rhosygadair Fawr, Blaenan-
nerch, with Reserve going to
JH and JA Evans, Nant y Ci,
Carmarthen. Supreme Cham-
pion in the Beef Cattle Section
was awarded to TE Price and
HE Griffiths, Pencraig, Trel-
ech, and Reserve going to C
Lewis, Gwarcoed-Einon, Lla-
nybydder.
In the Sheep Section, Su-
preme Champion was awarded
to DJ and T Davies, of Cwm-
cynnon, Llandysul, with Llyr
James, Ty Croes, Penuwch,
Tregaron, taking the Reserve.
The Best Exhibit in the Pig
Section, was awarded to Teifi
Evans and son Rhys, of Tro-
edyraur Farm, Brongest, New-
castle Emlyn.
The show seemed to have at-
tracted more families this year
with many school children at-
tending, and this could well
be because of the fine weather
and free tickets offered to local
children.
Mr Evans added: The policy
of children having free tickets
was offered to all of the jun-
ior schools in the area, even
though some schools didnt
respond to the offer, but I am
confident that this scheme will
happen again next year.
SUPREME CHAMPTION: Show presidents John and Auriol Williams present the Supreme Champion
Horse trophy to the Show Pony Lead Rein Champion, owned and produced by Sarah Whitfeld.

AM praises Cardigan Show
for its innovative approach
GOOD SHOW: Heifer U12 months, Richard Jones, Oernant. (8841165)
CEREDIGION AM Elin
Jones has praised the organ-
isers of Cardigan Show for
a range of innovations and
improvements to the show
for 2014.
Among the most successful
was the newfood hall, which
contained a large number
of stalls from local food pro-
ducers ranging from confec-
tion and cheese to meat and
seafood.
The Ceredigion AM was
joined in visiting Cardigan
show this year by the Welsh
Government Minister for
the Economy Edwina Hart
and the new Deputy Minis-
ter for Agriculture Rebecca
Evans.
Elin Jones said: Im de-
lighted that the organisers
of Cardigan Show were re-
warded this year with excel-
lent weather. It was a superb
day out.
Two government minis-
ters were able to accept my
invitation to visit the show,
and they saw a really vi-
brant and forward-thinking
event. They were also able
to meet representatives of
farmers and other business-
es in the Cardigan area, and
really enjoyed the day.
The competitions were
of an excellent standard,
and there was plenty of en-
tertainment for the family.
The food hall in particular
was a great addition, which
I hope will go from strength
to strength.
