th and 16 th of September 2008. After inspection the institution was accredited with C grade. The following recommendations were made by the NAAC peer team and the initiatives taken are described below:
1. The college may offer more UG, PG courses and introduce Job oriented courses.
Since the last accreditation the college has offered two new courses in UG- B.Com and B.Sc. While the B.Com course has gained in strength, the B.Sc course is temporarily discontinued due to low intake. Any course with less than 15 students is to be discontinued according to the department rules. In the year 2014-2015 the intake in B.SC was only 5 and we were advised by the Joint Director of Shivamogga region to shift them to the government college in Shivamogga which is about 18 km. from Holehonnur. We have not lost hope and shall try our best to revive the course.
2. More ICT enabled teaching programmes with effective usage of internet facility may be explored.
In the last four years we have received financial assistance from the UGC to procure more computers. At present the number of computers available are 57. Inter facility is utilized for teaching. The students can make use of the internet facility in the library and the network resource center to prepare assignments and projects.
3. College may consider allowing more teachers to acquire Ph.D. utilizing FIP.
One of our teachers has been granted permission to avail FIP. Two more teachers have registered for Ph.D.
4. Implementation of at least one computer course as add on course.
The BBM students study computer application as one of the subjects. Interested students from all streams are trained in computer basics by the teachers free of cost.
5. Procurement of UGC funds for remedial classes, coaching classes for competitive examinations and construction of ladies hostel.
During the 11 th plan the college has received Rs.8, 88,000/- for remedial classes and Rs.2,40,000/- for dispersal of stipend to SC/ST/minorities and OBC students. The grants have been utilized according to rules.
6. Introduction of Science courses with computer interfacing.
In accordance with the recommendations of the NAAC peer team a B.SC. course was started in 2009-2010 offering Physics, Mathematics and Computer science combination. The intake was just 6 students. While the number of students increased to 9 in the next year. In 2011-12 the intake dropped to 4. In 2012-13 there were no admissions to the course. Despite wide publicity only 5 students applied in the year 2014-15. As the intake was less than 15 the students had to be shifted to the government college in Shivamogga. Probably lack of permanent staff in the Physics and Computer Science is responsible for the temporary discontinuation of the course. However the college shall strive to retain the course.
7. Permanent affiliation for BBM and B.SC courses
The institution has obtained permanent affiliation for the BBM course. Steps shall be initiated to get permanent affiliation for the other courses as well.
8. College should have its own website and try for automation of library and office.
The college now has its own website. Automation of the library is in progress with 60% of the work already completed. Office automation has also been taken up.
9. The college should tap financial resources from various funding agencies for overall development of the college.
The college has received Rs.37, 85, 000/- during the 11 th plan for various developmental activities in the college, such as purchase of computers, organizing state level seminars, books & journals and construction of rooms and ladies waiting room. At present class rooms are being constructed at the cost of Rs. One Crore. The college has sent proposals for construction of an independent library building and a gymnasium under RUSA assistance.
10. Imparting training in soft skills and communication skills to enhance employability.
Training in soft skills and communication skills is now part of the English syllabus for BBM students. The state government has introduced free certificate courses in soft skills and communication skills for the students of all courses. These programmes are conducted in the college. Recruiters are invited to offer training in preparation of resume and facing interviews. They also help in the recruitment process. A few students have also received offer letters but they are keen on continuing their education.
