This letter was due to come you02i(s^1^6^i61ihe we deliberately postponed
sending it out until ve could give you the news'^conceming the enrollment .for this
year in the Aparri Bible Seminary. IJe have been so busy since the close of the lu.ot
school ye-ui', preparing for this one that we did not have time to make ary spooial
offort to recruit r;tudnts. so we didii't really know what to expect so far as rui.ibars
were concerned. We are Iiarpy to be able to repcrn that kS young people have enrolled
for this first Semester of v/orkc We are especially happy about this because we have
as inany or perhaps a few norc than we did last year, and this year we have onlv o?'je
student frcm Ilocos St: and none fi'om Abra^ The new Seminary in Vigan is taking ca'-^e
of those students this year. The majority of the students this year are new, aiid "^e
find some very promising material among them. We are happy to note that five oi the
:"lnest college lev-l students are from the two new Churches which have been establish
ed in Cordon, Isabela since last February.
Neither Roberta nor I have any particular problem when it comes to keeping busy,
if you get what I mean, Ricky and Robby are both going to the public school here in
Aparia. this year, which relieves Roberta of teaching them. She is teaching 13 hours
a week in the Seminary and will be teaching Lloyd his seventh grade as soon as his
books arrive, She also is helping quite a number of the students on the piano. I am
teaching only 10 hours a week this year and thus hope to find time to do the printing
ihr.t we want to do,
We have not been able to do much printing as yet, partly because our , equipment
is not entirely complete as yet. and partly because we have been working quite hard
in getting the buildings of the Sc.rdnary rec?.dy for school. We are still working cn
the Seiidnary building itself, and the boys who will be running the press have been
workrng along with the rest of us on the buildings, particularly during these past
few weeks, in getting them ready to be painted. They have., in fact, painted almost
three fourths of the girls' dormitory building, the first paint it has had since
built it about three years ago.
The Evangelistic work is coming along quite well. Bro, Sergio Banggo, who is
establishing a ChiTrch in Tuguegarao, has met much determined opposition there and un
til recently had no prospect at all. He was here just a few days ago and Informed us
that he has found three families who are interested in being-'iaught more concerning
the Nei-r Testament Churchy He was re.ally feeling good about that. His wife, Adelina,
has siarLed a kindergarten and has eight children in it. We are sure that next year
she will have all that she can handle, and what a help that will be in opening doors
to the preaching of the Gospel; Bro,. Virgilio Ibarra has opened v;ork in some new
places srnco we last wrote and prospects are good in several places^ V7e just hope he
doesn't try to start in more places than he can handle, Bro, Fernando Pastor, the one
who established the two Churches in Cordon, Isabela, has been reporting baptisms
rv,.Trv week, and has started new work in at least two other places. He started
noLhlng down there about list February and now he has brought four full time College
students to the Sendnar^r besides him: elf, and has tiic-se two Churches, and others
begiui. The Lord has triXy blessed hj.in in that work. He goes there each week-end and
I don't laiow how many tames ho preaches every week-end, but several. His wife, a new
Chrisiiaii, is in ti=)e Seminary also. Since January, according to reports received,
there have been 141 bapiii-sias in the Cagayari Valley, three nexT Churches established,
l^he wc.irk revived in several p.laces, and new x^ork opened in many places.
Llany of you receiving this letter will find receipts enclosed for gifts which
you have sent recently for the Loid's work here. We are so grateful to all of you
for remembering this work x;ith your gifts of money as vrell as your prayers. We would
i^PliFQciate it very much jf you vrould send all gifts to our States address given above.
We OG notified of your gift and wilL.send yon a. receipt from. har.-.
-^/e have been unable to find property for the boys' dormitory. We are using the
old Semunazy building for that pui'poso. It is not at all satisfactory,- but the boys
seem to be quite comfortable now. Problems will come with the rains. Most of you
will remember that while we were in the States, we made an attempt to raise funds
xdiich to buy property for,and build a Seminary building and a boys' dormitory.
We asked for $15,000 for this project. We were able to raise only $3i000 before we
left the States, We have used this amount in expanding the former Campbell house
into a very acceptable Seminary building. Now, we are still in need of funds with
which to purchase property and build a boys' dormitory building. We would surely
appreciate any help that you can give toward this trr^ortant project. We would like
to have all such gifts sent, designated for the dormitory fund,to our States address.
Thank you a.gain for remembering us with your gifts and prryers in our work here,
Lly yours in Christy,
Charles and Roberta Selby

Dear Brethren in Christ:
It has been quite a long time since we sent out a news-letter. For more than a
month we have been required to put an extra five centavos on every piece of mail sent
out, as a contribution to the Philippine Turbuculosis Society* Since this would add
quite a lot of postage to our cost of putting out a news-letter, we just haven't put
one out during the time that law was in effect. I am far behind on ny letter writ
ing for another reason also. Two months ago, as "I was helping the carpenters with
the ivindows for the girls' dormitory, a heavy piece of wood dropped on the middle
finrrer of my left hand'and smashed it quite badly. I had it bandaged, .and the next
day or so was back at the bench saw really going at it, bandaged finger and allc I
choV;ld have loiown better than to be working around the savr with a big bandage on
finger, but we were in a hurry to get the windows in, so there I was. You have pro
bably already guessed that the bandage got caught in the saw blade and pulled my al
ready injui-ed finger into the blade, and really did a good job of chewing it upc I
am nust now getting to the place where I can type again. It is still sore and it
hurts everytime I hit a key with it, but it will surely get used to it after a while.
Though our letter writing has come almost to a standstill, yet the Lord's work
in this area has by no means come to a standstill. As usual, we are not entirely
satisfied with the progress being made, yet there is progress and growth and for this
we rejoice. This week will mark the end of our vrork on the Seminary building in so
far as the carpenters are concerned at least. We will still ha've the cementing in
front of the doorways to do later on, but for the most part we are finished for the
timo being. We have made some extensive in^rovements on the girls' dormitory build
ing, a new ceiling upstairs and new glass T-riixiows all over, up and down that is, arid
paint both on the inside and out. The Seminary building is practically all painted
and our house is about half finished as of now. The rains have started so we are
having some difficulty getting finished up on that job. I surely do wish that all of
you could see our Seminary building.V/e think it is very nice, and it is a joy to use
it for the cause of Christ in this area. Our students are really quite proud of it.
We wish to thank each of you who have helped so wonderfully with-this building pro
gram.
The big news right now for the evangelistic^ work Is that a completely new work
has opened up in the town of Ballesteros, Cagayan. There have been, for a number of
years, several brethren living in that tovm. We have made several attempts to get
them interested in starting a Church over there during the past years, but have been
unable to do so. Last year a daughter of Bro. Faustino Peneyra moved to that town and
along with her doctor husband set up a small hospital. Juvst a few weeks ago she was
able, somehow, to stir the embers of faith that still glovred faintly in the '
of those old Church members, and now they are having regular worship services', "Bible
study on Saturday nights and two and sometimes three servi6es on the Lord's Bay.
William Bagain, a junior student in the Seminary and one of our finest student
preachers is going there on Saturday each week at the present time. Bro. Laureano
Lopez, one of our Seminary professors, vjas the first to ansv/er their request foi* a
preacher, and now William is going to take over for a while at least. We are sure
that a new Ghurxih will be organized in this place before long. Their Sunday momi-ig
attendance has been~ over the 40 mark almost' from the beginning with their night
crowds much larger than that,
Bro. Sergio Banggo has had three converts so far in his very difficult new work
in the Capitol of our province, Tuguegarao, Their Sunday morning attendance averages
tround 12 now, which to him and to us is very encouraging especially when we remejiiber
the great difficulties he encountered when he first began the work there. Sergio
needs your constant prayers as he continues this most important work. As the work in
this city grows, it will spread to the barrios of the muncipality and many opportuni
ties to establish new Churches will thus open up. In fact, that has already begun to
happen.
Bro, Virgilio Ibarra is still teaching regularly in several homes in the city of
Bayombof.g, Capitol of Nueva Viacaya province, V/e are praying that this soon will re
sult in Souls brought to Christ. Besides his work in that place he is working with
9>;
the Church in Uddiawan, havine B^le study with them on Friday evenings and spending
the Lord' s dav with them> He will aiso _Oi^__an entirely new Horli: in anothejr_bai3d^^

Bro FeJUtpe Beyani ^has .gently gone to tiie iarge barrt^of
idiere ve have alao had several i^ethren for .quite a nuis^r of ^ars^ Imt no Church*
He is having Bible study and Evangelistic services several times each week besides
his regular &ndey services# His vife, who is also Beminaiy tzminedt is teaching as
many as 45 CWldren eveiy dey* We feel sure that there will be a new Church, in this
place before long also^
Bro* Fernando Pastor* tdto has already established two new dsurches since Januaxy
Istf has very good prospects of establishing two more before longi If he were ^ust
iiK)re than one person* he'jwould have had the job done a lof^ time agpc Bro Pastor is
naxcfa in d^nand throughout all of this area* since he is a first cl^s defter# and
public debatjhig is <mei!ihing that can hfrdly be avoided in the Hiilippines at the.
present time# We have 80;many heretical sects to contend with here* and they all want
to debate. Sme of them have the most peculiar doctrines and arc leading maxy astray#
Bro# Pastor Is also the(author of several good tracts which we have printed in small
quantities for distrilmition and they have done much good#
We hear from the other preachers from time to time* Jose Dalilis is working with
coia Church in particular in Isabela but is also helping neighboring Churches when he
can and has been working ;in some, noarhy villages where we have no work as yet . Bro.
Lazaro Oloraza is doing a good work in Caliguian* Isabela* and surrounding barrios#
Bexnardo Oloraza is well on the way to establishing a new Church in Barrio Canayon,
^bulug* Cagayan. ThOre are others not mentiiwied here idso are doing a very fine wozic
in their areas* and ot^rs yet who could do much more than^hey are doing* as is
always the case everywhe:ra. That* in fact* is probably the case with most of us* if
we are not too proud to admit it.
179 baptisms hove been reported by various workers and Churches for this year*
There are undoubtedly some that have not been reported at all* Three new Churches
have been established since Januazy 1st* and we hc^ to be able to report that many
more* at least* before the end of the year* We are planning aii. evangelistic confer

THE MDLPILITH IS RDNNINGi
At last we are using the
Multillth 1250 which was given
to the work here tgr the Chur
ches of Clay Countys Illinois.
We have had quite a discourag
ing time over the past several
months trying to make the nec-
essaiy adjustments on the ma
chine in order to get it func
tioning properly. It was under
stood that the representative
of the Hiltilith con5>any in
Manila would be obliged to in
stall this machine without
charge. In the Statesj such in-
.ptallations as well as training
goes along xd.th the purchase
price p but once again we have
learned that we are not in the
States when we are in the Phil
ippines, The Manila Company
would send a man to Aparri to
make installationp etc., if we
would pay him for every
hour he was out of Manila and
that means 24 hours a day, and
pay for his hotel accoraodations
and his food while here. That
could run into a lot of money
in a very short time. Because
of that, the two boys who went
with me to Manila last May to
take training there, and I,
have been trying, as time per
mitted p to make the installa
tion ourselves. To say the

least, we have learned a great
deal about the Machine, We have
some well thumbed and ink smud
ged books to pro>e that we have
spent quite a lot of time with
it. We have been able to print
some tracts already. Our work
is still that of amateurs, and
you will probably find much to
criticize along that, line in
this issue of the APARRI CHIU
ISTIAN, but we will learn,-are
learning-fast., now that we have
it working. We have not yet
been able to obtain all of the
equipment we need in order to
use the copy Camera which will
enable us to do much better and
more diversified work, but that
d^ will come. We are still us
ing our regular typewriter to
set up our copy, but will soon
have the IBM working on that#
Our thanks to all once again
who have made it possible for
us to have this press and the
equipment to go with itg

train and send out Ve have
also thought it of primazy im

to the young people that have
been trainedo so that they can
devote their time to establish^
ing Churches and winning souls
At present we are helping 19
meuo , .Rine of these are gradu

diplomas this y^ar and three
others are students in the Sei^
inazy. Several other students
are going out each week-end to
preach, receivjjig their travel
money from mission fuz^, un
less the Churches which they
serve are willing and able to
pay it.
The number of baptisms for
this year, has gone over the 200
nark, three new Churches have
been established and strong new
work has been opened in at
least six placeso'Bro, Virgilio
Ibarra has opened promising
work in thzee places in Nueva
Viscaya within the past few
months g Bro, Eemando Pastor,
vdio has already established two
new Churches this year, has
promising work in two other
places in Isabels which should
develop into new Churches be
fore longs Bra, Sergio Banggo
is making progress in his vezy
difficult field of labor, the
toyn of Tuguegarao, Capital of
Cagayan Besides this, a pro-
raising work has op^ed up in
the town of Ballesteros Just
west of Aparri a few miles,
William Bagain, a thizd year
student in the Seitdnazy, has
been preaching there regularly
on the yeek-ends.
We have a total of 32 organ
ized Churdies in this three
province area at the preffenlr
time, with at least 20 or 25
places where services are.fre
quently held but which have not
been developed to the point of
becoming organized congrega-
tionse
A few of the young men men
tioned above are working wi-^
some of our stronger Qiurches
and are being helped in their
support by those Churches, and
thus receive only partial sup
port from mission fUnds, Others
are engaged primarily in estab-
lishizig new (lurches and thus
receive nearly full support
from mission funds. Various
Churches, Bible Classes and
Mission Groups in the States
have assumed all or part of the
support of some of these men.
We would surely appreciate hav
ing other groups assume all or
even part of the support of
others who are not fully sup
ported by ^uiy particular group.
If you a|*e interested in such a
project,:' we would appreciate
hearing from you.
SEMINARr mus

Bible ^ndnaxy is more than
half goneo After a one week va

gan on October 27. We lost tvo
of our full time students but
six nesr csies have enrolled for
this seiQ0ster There were some
others who dropped out during
the first Semester^ so our en
rollment remains about the sameo
As near ^ I can tell from just
loaking a quick count we have

this Semestero We now. have
.three married couples in the
SeminaiEy ws are helping all
of them tb 'some degreep depend
ing on how much help they are
able to get from other sources.
Besides these three couples* we
are giving aid to 10 boys and
2 girls. Only four of these
students have definite pledged
support eondng from the States.
$10.00 a month will support a
student idiile in school and
another $5.00 will send him out
to preach on each week-end. It
is hard for you to realize* I
am sure* just how much regular
gifts mean to us and our workT
Just imagine* only $120.00 will
keep a student in the Seminaiy
for a year and give him enough
to pay his expenses during the
summer ninths as he gets into
the field for practical exper
ience in winning souls to
Christ o Only $1B0 a year will
give a student enough to pay
his travel to preaching points
as well as take care of his
personal expenses during the
school year. How could you pos
sibly make any greater contri
bution to the lord's work for
so little money? When you aid
in the support of a student in
the Seminary, you are not in
vesting in things but in a
In former letters to some of
you we have told some about our
building program during the
past year. We have been able
to expand the former Canpbell
house into a vezy fine Beminazy
buildingsidiich' should be^ade-
quate for some time to come. We
have a :two stozy building, that
is MQ feet long and 24 feet
wide with a 10 hy 24 foot hall
and entrance in which la the
stairway to the second floor.
This hall is like a nice porch
on the second floor with glass
windows all around giving a
nice view of the Cagayan filver
to our west and the Sea to the
northwest. We hove a 12 hy 24
foot library and two class
roans the same size pn the-
first floor besides a litera
ture room and a store room* On.
the second floor we have the
officetwo class roomsF^one
24 by 24 feet the other 12 by
24. These two last rooms have a
movable partition between them
which* when removed* makes a
large 24 by 36 foot room. We
have made some extensive im
provements on the girls' dormi-
tozy this year also. A ceiling
was put in upstairs* glass win
dows all over and other vezy
is^rtant i^rovements made
necessary by our heavy raiz^
seasons over hereo We have
spent nearly $4100o00 in this
building program thus faro and
still have to purchase property
for the boys dormitoiy ax)d
build the building. We have an
opportunity to purchase propeiv
tyo although we have learned
that it is not as it was des*
cribed ^or us by the agent of
the owner when we first agreed
to buy it. It has only about a
53 foot frontage but is nearly
270 feet deep. We sdght be able
to get the ad^oixdng lots on
either side, i^ter on which
would be very ^valuabls to us,
and if we can get them fbr the
same- price ah this one, it
would be almost too good to be
true. Ve already have some
posts and some of the heavier
timbers'- for the -Dormitory on
haiui. We- will probably need
another $4,000.00 altogether
in order to get property ard
build the building and come out
debt free. We will- 1^ very
grateful for gifts sent for
this very in^Dortant project. We
are in almost desperate need of
this dornd-toiy right now, and
feel that we must absolutely
have it before we begin another
school year next June. We do
pray that many of you will be
able to help us wi'Wi' this pro
ject during the next three
monthso If you could see the
conditions under lAieh the boys
are living, X am sure you would
understand our concern that we
get this done before another
school year begins.
WB MEED A PIAMD
Roberta, besides all of her
other teaching, is 'beaching -
piano to six studentso All of
these must use the same piano
for their practicing, and their
practice time is limited since
our one piano is in our large
claesrocan so "that it can be
used for Oioir practice. There
are others who would like to
take piano, but we need another
piano before others can be
added.. Does az^one have a 'used
piano, or know of azyone who
does have one, who would be
willing to donate it to the
Aparrl Bible Seminazy? If it
is donated, and shipped to us
as a donation we will not have
to pay customs on it. It would
be good if it could ccmie from
the West Coast , in order to
save overland tran^rtation
costs.

We are iz^eed grateful to
all of you who have been send

that you send as many Bible

These are much in demand^ also,
we are not receiving ziearly as
many Primazy picture leaflets
as we can use. The Seminazy
girls are going out evezy week
end9 and these leaflets are
much in demand, and we also, get
requests from the Churches for
them. These two items are es

time.
