ActivateprogrammodeinDandelion.Inordertodothatpressthelensresetbuttonandnolaterthanin
2.5secondspressandholdthepreviewbuttonfor10seconds.Atthe11thsecondthecamerawill
displayaperturesign".".ThismeansthatDandelionhasenteredtheprogrammode.Pressthelens
resetbuttonagain.Dandelionwillbereadytoacceptthecommandanddata.Controldialwillletyou
changetheaperturefromF4.0toF11.Herewitheachaperturecorrespondstoanumber(seetable1).

AllnewDandelionsbydefaulthavea10seconddelaybeforeactivation.Youcanchangeitfrom01to99
seconds(seeF11function).Ashortdelayhelpsactivatetheprogrammodequicker.Alongerdelay
excludesthepossibilityofanaccidentalactivation.
Makesurethatyoupressthepreviewbuttonnolaterthan2.5secondsafteryoupressedthelensreset
button,andthatyouholditcontinuallyfor10seconds.Otherwisetheprogrammodewillnotbe
activated.Thecamerahastobepreparedasdescribedhere;ifnot,thereisnoguaranteethatall
commandswillworkcorrectly.
Dandelionwillstayintheprogrammodeuntilyouentercommandanddata.Ifyouwishtoquitthe
programmodeanyway,turnthecameraoffusingPoweron/offswitch.
CommandandDataInput
Commandinputisassimpleaspressingthepreviewbuttononacertainaperture.Afterthatyouwill
havetoenterseveraldigits(data).Thedataaretobeenteredassuch,forexample,thenumber28must
beenteredinthefollowingway:first2,then8.
ListofCommandsAndTheirFormats
F4.0+2digitsaperturechange.Thefirstdigitcorrespondstoanaperturevaluebeforepoint.The
seconddigittoanaperturevalueafterthepoint.Forexample,tosetaperture2.8pressthepreview
buttonsuccessivelyonaperturesF4.0(command),F5.0(thefirstdigitis2),F10(theseconddigitis8).
AperturechangerangesfromF1.0toF9.9.Ifthecommandandtwodigitsareenteredcorrectly,there
willappearaperturesign"."onthedisplay.Pressthelensresetbuttonandchecktheresult.

MindthatifapertureissetfromF1.0toF1.9,itwillinfluenceexposuremeteringandreduceit.
F5.6+5digitsfocallengthchange.Thedigitsaretobeenteredfromgreatesttoleast.Ifthefocal
lengthislessthan5digits,addzeros.Forexamplefor50mm:00050.Allfivedigitshavetobeentered.
Thereforetochangefocallengthto50mm,pressthepreviewbuttonsuccessivelyonthefollowing
apertures:F5.6(command),F4.0(thefirstdigitis0),F4.0(theseconddigitis0),F4.0(thethirddigitis0),
F7.1(theforthdigitis5),F4.0(thefifthdigitis0).
Focallengthrangesfrom00001mmto65535mm.Ifthecommandandfivedigitsareenteredcorrectly,
anaperturesign"."willappearonthedisplay.Presslensresetbuttonandchecktheresult.
F8.0+2digitsfrom01to17correctionoffocusconfirmationdotorDandelioncalibrationfunction.
Youmaymovethedotabitforwardorbackward,tomanuallyfindthecalibrationconstant.Bydefault
Dandelionissetforthecenter,constant09.
F10+1...32charactersinputoftextinformationaboutthelenstype.Ifyouhaveseverallensesofthe
sametype,youmayassigneachofthemsothatyoucoulddifferentiatebetweenthephotoslateron.
Forexample,"ZeissPlanar50/1.4"or"SummicronR50/1.4".
Textinformationistransferredtoexifinthesamewayasapertureandfocallengthinformation,andcan
bereadonyourPClaterwiththehelpofspecializedsoftware.UnspecializedsoftwaresuchasACDSee
cannotdisplaytextinformationaboutlenstype,thusyou'llhavetousespecializedexifreading
software,suchasExifTool.
MindthatOlympussystemrestrictsthelengthoftheline.Itignoreslenstypeanddoesn'ttransferitto
exif;that'swhythetextwillbedisplayedonthesameplaceastheserialnumberofthelens.Asaresult,
thelengthofthetextcanbenomorethan12characters.
PanasonicDMCL10fullytransferslenstypeinformationtoexif,thusall32characterscanbeused.
IfyouentertextinanOlympuscamera,startwiththetildesign("~").Thefollowing12characterswillbe
displayedliketheserialnumberofthelens.Maximumtextlengthis12characters+tildesigninthe
beginning.Youmayenter32characters,butonly12willbedisplayed.
ThereisnosuchrestrictioninPanasoniccameras,soyoucanenter32characters.Youdon'thavetouse
thetildesign.
Toenterthetextyouwillhavetousenumbersfrom00to94thatcorrespondtoeachcharacter.Youwill
findtheminTable2.Thecharactersaretobeenteredfromlefttoright,fromfirsttolast.Ifyouwishto
enterlessthan32characters,finishthelinebyenteringnumber99.Thelinewillbefinished
automaticallyafterthe32ndcharacter.Aperturesign"."willbeappearonthedisplay.Presslensreset
buttonandchecktheresult.

LENSRESETfunctionisperformedbyLensreleasebutton.
InPanasonicDMCL1/L10thereisnosuchfunctionasdepthoffieldpreview.That'swhyinorderto
activateprogrammodeyouwillhavetomakeonelongexposureinMmode.Forcommandanddata
inputyouwillhavetomakeshotswithshortexposureinautomaticexposuremode(Amode).After
Dandelionperformsthecommand,insteadofdisplayingaperturesign"."thecamerawillofferto
reboot.Inthiscaseyouwillnotneedthelensresetfunction.

YoucandothesamewithOlympuscameras,thatisinsteadofpressingthePREVIEWbuttonyoucan
makeshots.
