ABBs SCC-125 combination current and voltage transformer delivers meter class performance and control power to capacitor controllers, allowing utilities to optimize VAr control on distribution grid networks. Utility challenges: To take advantage of the wide range of capabilities of a capacitor controller, the SCC-125 provides: Standard current and voltage output values Strong performance at high level harmonics readings No phase angle shift correction required by controller No ratio correction factor compensation required by controller Built in 120 V control power to power electronics and to drive the capacitor switches Overview The future of power distribution relies on utilities to enhance the visibility of the grid to optimize their network and deliver power to consumers with greater reliability and efciency at minimal cost. The result gives the SCC-125 its unique position as an effective, long lasting sensor uniquely equipped for use with the stringent demands of capacitor controllers. Harmonics The SCC-125 has the range to read up to the 66th harmonic, or 4 kHz. Readings with this range allow for optimal power quality applications as well as fault current displays. When combined with an integrated device, many other current sensors have a much lower harmonic limitation. Ratio correction factor The SCC-125 meets the 0.3 metering class with no ratio correction factor inside the controller. This reduces installation time, maintenance, training, and potential errors in correcting for unit to unit variation. Performance The SCC-125 has a C100 relay accuracy which allows it to display values up to 12,000 amperes. This gives the controller the additional ability to identify fault currents. Output values The SCC-125 delivers the traditional 5 A and 120 V output of standard current and voltage transformers, combined with the ease of installation of a line-post sensor due to its innovative split-core design. This allows these units to connect with any capacitor controller with no additional programming. The voltage transformer output is based on actual line voltage and is not dependent upon input impedance. Phase angle shift Other current sensing devices require a 90 phase angle shift in the controller, which limits the capabilities of the application. The SCC-125 does not require a phase angle shift and provides real-time reading of the current wave form. Control power The SCC-125 contains a voltage transformer with a 120 V and 500 VA output that powers the controller as well as operates the capacitor switch. This reduces costs by not having to purchase and install an additional distribution transformer. 1 V A P 4 2 9 9 9 9 - D B
