I. Greetings
Good morning class!

Lets start the lesson with a prayer.

God, our Father,
Creator of all good things
in the world and within our school community:
We thank you for the gift of this day,
for our families and friends
and for this safe place to learn and grow.
We ask You to bless all who teach and learn.
Through Your Holy Spirit,
guide us as we grow in faith and love
and give us the courage
to be more like Your Son.
We ask this, in Jesus' name.
Amen.

II. Introduction/Motivation
Before we start our discussion, we will first have
an ice breaker. Can I have five representatives?

Form a circle. As you can see, I am holding a paper
cup. You will change this into something it is not.
You must use it as if it is that object. There is no
sound in this game. For example: I will pretend it
is a telephone, (the teacher will hold it to her ear
and mouth words as if she is talking into it) Then,
you are to call out what you think I have turned
the object into. When you call out the correct
answer, I will pass the prop to the student to the
right. That student is to do the same. There are no
repetitions allowed.

III. Discussion Proper
Because of the growing complexity of the
modern world, the young must be trained to
respond effectively to changing needs and
conditions instead of simply accumulating
knowledge, hence the development of scientific

methods of inquiry in addition to basic concepts
and generalizations.
Our first key word is: Process approach is
teaching how to acquire skills. In the process
approach, what is given emphasis is not the
acquisition of cognitive knowledge but the
acquisition of skills. It also leads the students to
behave like a scientist by using the intellectual
skills of observation, classification, measurement,
generalization and prediction. Here, students are
being thought to recognize problems and discover
answers by his own activities, rather than being
supplied by the answers.
Another key word for process approach is that:
This process utilizes the principle of learning by
doing. If you want to teach a child how to swim,
take him to the water and let him swim. It uses
the applications of the Law of Exercise such as
drill, repetition, review and constant practice.
Process approach can be used in teaching
mathematics, social studies, science, language,
physical education, and vocational education.
Any questions?

Now, we will proceed to steps in process
approach. First is the memory and information
input. This is set up by formulating questions,
ready expository materials, observing
phenomenon, collecting evidence, listening to
presentations, and discovering principles. For
example, a math teacher can teach solving linear
equation by first introducing its meaning and
formula.
Any questions?
The second step in process approach is deriving
the meaning. Students got through a process that
allows them to extract the meaning. They analyze
the materials, experiment with them, reorganize,
consolidate or integrate them with other
materials. Lets go back to our example earlier. A
mathematics teacher can teach linear equations
step by step. She will let her students listen to her
first before solving on their own.
Any questions?
The third step is attaching significance. This
time, the students will do the processes that
enable them to give the significance of this
knowledge to determine its usefulness and

application to their situations. They infer
generalizations from them, reconstruct their
general structure, relate them to other situations,
and test their usability. From our example earlier,
the mathematics teacher will now let her students
solve the problems on their own using their
acquired skills from her.
Any questions?
The final step is the action. Students reflect on
what causes them to put their knowledge to
functional use, to operate this in different
situations, manipulate them through intellectual
activities by using the materials to solve, create,
or classify problems. From our example, the
teacher can now give tests to evaluate the
students learning.
Any questions?
Now, we will proceed to its advantages. First,
the students tend to apply a scientific mode of
thought to a wide range of problems, including
social order. They also improve their ability to
think critically in their skill of asking and
postulating questions. Third, students develop
self-reliance and responsibility since they assume
responsibility for their answers. The use of this
approach also maximizes the participation of the
students. And lastly, the students learn to respect
the truth. He does not make conclusions unless he
has proof or information to justify his conclusions.
These advantages can only be achieved if the
teacher has dedication in teaching. He should give
his best in teaching the students the adequate
information that they need. So as future
educators, we should not be tired of trying
different techniques for our students to keep
motivated. Do you agree?

Yes?

That is right. Very good.

IV. Summarization
Lets go back to our key words earlier. What is the
first one?

(A student raises his hands)
Yes maam. Dedication in teaching is important.
This will encourage the students to be eager to
learn more.

(A student raises his hands)
Process approach is teaching how to acquire

Right. Process approach is teaching how to
acquire skills. The emphasis is not the acquisition
of cognitive knowledge but the acquisition of
skills.
What is the second term?

Right. This process utilizes the principle of
learning by doing. It uses the applications of the
Law of Exercise such as drill, repetition, review
and constant practice.
It has four steps, memory and information input,
deriving meaning, attaching significance and
action. This approach enables the student to cope
with the knowledge explosion since he
remembers the process rather than facts.

V. Generalization/Application
Class, I have here two pictures that show
interaction between the teacher and the
students. I want you to compare them.

Yes?

Right. Are there any answers?

Yes?

That is correct. The first picture shows the
traditional approach in learning. The second one
is with the use of process approach. As future
educators, would you like your class to be like the
second one?

If so, you should use different approaches such as
the process approach in order for your students
to keep motivated and eager to learn more.
skills is the first term maam.

(A student raises his hands)
The second term is the process approach
utilizes the principle of learning by doing.

(A student raises his hands)
The first picture shows that the students are
just listening to whatever the teacher says. The
second picture shows that the students are
involved in the learning.

(A student raises his hands)
The first picture shows teacher-centered type
of learning while the second one shows a
student-centered type of learning.

Yes maam.
