During their August 18 meeting, Hudson School
Board members reviewed a proposal presented
by administration in which a designated teacher
would maintain the system-wide school website.
The memo from Bryan Lane to the Hudson School
Board reads this way: In an effort to ensure that
our website for each school is kept up-to-date, I
am proposing that we create a stipend position
at each school building for this purpose. None of
the schools in the district have a position clerical
or otherwise, that includes this job responsibility.
After a training session with the aHal
consultant, the rm that developed the new
website, the School Based Website Administrator.
The SBWA would be the clearinghouse for all
information coming from staff, administration, and
the PTO. While content is the responsibility of
the person providing the information, if a question
arises the school principal would make any
necessary determination.
It is estimated that the SBWA would work
one hour per week at the task, with a 38-week
school year plus an extra two for the start-up time.
Project costs are based on 40 hours per year at
$25 an hour, equating to $1,000 per year for each
of the elementary schools, and $1,250 per school
for Hudson Memorial and Alvirne. District costs
would total $5,500 for the rst year and would be
transferred from the salary line.
This is the third stipend program started this
school year: the teacher mentor program, the
computer technical support program and now the
website administrator. All will be funded through
the excess in the salary line and all will become
part of the budget for the 2015-2016 school year.

Third Stipend Program for Teachers
McKenzie Lowe Achieves Silver Award; Thirteen Others Get Bronze
by Laurie Jasper
Hudsons Girl Scout Troop 10024 gathered for
a very special Silver and Bronze Award Ceremony
on August 20 in the Aldermen Chambers at
City Hall in Manchester. Senator Kelly Ayotte
presented the Girl Scout Bronze Award to the 13
Junior Girl Scouts in the troop and the Girl Scout
Silver Award to one Cadette Girl Scout troop
member. Representing the Girls Scouts were
Patricia Mellor, the CEO of Girl Scouts of the
Green and White Mountains, and Carrie Green,
director of Girl Leadership.
Before the ceremony, Senator Ayotte addressed
the Girl Scouts, saying she was thrilled to be
presenting the Bronze and Silver awards to such
a wonderful group and also sharing that she was
a Girl Scout. You are learning about leadership
and friendship, and you should be very proud of
your achievement today. You are our future, the
senator said. She congratulated the large crowd
of parents, family and friends in the audience as
well as the troop leaders, and, looking around
the room at the girls, she said, Maybe we have a
future president in this room.
During the awards ceremony, the troops co-
leader Bob Macaraeg read a brief biography
of each scout as Senator Ayotte and Patricia
Mellor presented the certicates and pins and
co-leaders Sheryl Boullianne and Susan Mooers
proudly looked on. These active, busy girls enjoy
activities such as swimming, softball, piano,
gymnastics, ice hockey, drawing, basketball and
horseback riding and future career goals include
engineer, pediatrician, fashion designer, teacher,
neurologist, animal trainer and veterinarian.
Receiving the Bronze Award: Kayleigh
Arnold, Kayli Boucher, Grace Boudreau,
Alyssa Boullianne, Gabriela Calderone, Juliana
Calderone, Emelia Dickey, Leah Ferguson,
Michelle Kapala, Sinead Macaraeg, Raina Merrow,
Alyson Mooers and Morgan Pertowski. Receiving
the Silver Award: McKenzie Lowe.
The Bronze Award is the highest award a
Junior can earn, demonstrating her commitment
to helping others, improving her community
and the world and becoming the best she can
be, and requires 20 hours of work. The Silver
Award is the highest award a Cadette can
earn, and requirements also help build skills,
explore careers and gain leadership experience.
This requires 40 hours of work. Troop 10224
selected Pets in Need, a small adoption program
in Hudson run privately by volunteers to save
unwanted and abandoned cats and dogs. The Girl
Scouts collected donations from local merchants
to help the shelter and the animals, designed and
distributed posters for publicity for the shelter and
wrote, produced and starred in a video that will
also be used for publicity. The video has been
shown on Hudson Community Television. For
more information on Pets in Need, go to www.
animal-adoptions.org.

Car Club Show Makes Wishes Come True Car Club Show Makes Wishes Come True
by AJ Dickenson
On Sunday, August 24, the East Coast Camaro Club
held its 33rd All Vehicle Show at the Hills House across
from Alvirne High School. Since it was established
in 1979, the Camaro club has since been a New
Hampshire-registered non-prot organization, which
not only gives back to this community tremendously
year after year but also has a lot of fun doing it.
At the clubs car show on the rst weekend of
August at the Budweiser plant, the group raised an
amazing $18,000 in just one day for the Make A Wish
Foundation. George Giroux, president of the Camaro
club, feels that the charitable giving is only one aspect
of this group of motor heads. Its not just about charity;
its about people, people coming together socializing
and making new friends.
More than 300 vehicles, registered in 35 different
classes, were shown on that beautifully sunny day as
hundreds of people could be seen walking around
introducing themselves to one another and enjoying the
party-like atmosphere.
The proceeds to this event will be donated to
Merrimack Valley Hospice, a non-prot hospice care
organization that serves more than 100 communities in
northeastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire,
the NH Seacoast, and as far north as York, Maine.
Giroux reected on how it feels to donate to such a
wonderful organization which is out there every day
trying to make a difference for people in need: Some
things you do you cant put a price on, and something
like this is priceless. Just last year alone, Giroux and
the East Coast Camaro Club donated almost $10,000
to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, along with $562
to the local food pantry, $250 donations to other
organizations such as the Hudson Historical Society,
the Alvirne High School auto shop and the Londonderry
Police Explorers Program.
For more information on the East Coast Camaro
Club, visit eastcoastcamaroclub.com or visit Merrimack
Valley Hospice at www.HomeHealthFoundation.org.

Welcome back!
Rep. Bob Haefner Returns from Council
of State Governments Annual Meeting
State Representative and Ranking Member of the Committee on
Environment and Agriculture, Bob Haefner, attended the annual
meeting of the Council of State Governments, Eastern Regional
Conference in Maryland in early August. Representative Haefner
is a past Council of State Governments Executive Committee
Member and is currently appointed by the speaker to represent New
Hampshire on the Agriculture
Policy Committee of the Eastern
Regional Conference.
CSG is the only one of the
three major state legislative
organizations that has an
active agriculture policy
committee. We learn about
federal legislation and what
neighboring states are doing in
our policy area. This year we
attended workshops on Country
of Origin Labeling, Food Safety
Modernization Act Rules, Right
to Farm Legislation, research
on industrial hemp, Vermonts
Farm to Plate program, US /
Canada trade, and a professional
development seminar on the
Perception of Risk.
During the conference the
agriculture folks were able to
take a tour of
a horse farm,
where they
bred, raised
and started
the training of
Thoroughbreds
for the horse
racing industry.
We also visited
a diversied
farm that raised
pastured fed
beef cattle, a
few hogs and
free range
chickens as
well as a large
variety of fruits, vegetable and sweet corn, some of it organic and
others not.
CSG is broken into regional conferences, unlike the other
two national legislative organizations that are all 50 states. The
advantage to regional is that within a region, we have similar
problem to address. As an example, the agriculture concerns in the
11 northeastern states are similar. We have small family farms, rocky
elds that are naturally forested, a large demand for buying local and
few government subsidies. Unlike the Midwest where the issues are
ethanol, large operations, water shortages, soy bean production and
wild horses. The agriculture folks also have a national organization
that most of us belong to as well. We meet annually with a group
called State Agriculture and Rural Leaders that is made up of House
and Senate Agriculture chairs and their Ranking Minority Members
from all 50 states.
Meetings such as this give legislators an opportunity to meet
in groups to understand what our neighboring states are doing in
general and with specic issues in particular. It is not uncommon
for us to come away with ideas that we can use in our own states.
Six legislators attended from New Hampshire including one of our
senators. Between us we represent policy areas of agriculture and
rural issues, transportation, health care, nance, and energy.

submitted By Jordan Ulery
Representative Jordan Ulery, serving Pelham

important endorsements recently. Ulery was given
an A rating and endorsement from the NRA for
his stand supporting the Constitution of the United
States.
Since my youth I have been around rearms
and other weapons and was taught the safe use
of ries and hand guns. I am please to accept
the NRA endorsement reecting my commitment
to protecting our Constitutional and Natural
Rights, Ulery said. The NRA-ILA (The Institute
for Legislative Action) is the lobbying arm of the
NRA. Established in 1975, ILA is committed to
preserving the right of all law-abiding individuals
to purchase, possess and use rearms for
legitimate purposes as guaranteed by the Second
Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Ulery also received an endorsement from the
New Hampshire Liberty Alliance for his support
of the principles of liberty in the State House.
Included in those principles are a stand for the
freedom of religion and speech spelled out in the
First Amendment of the Bill of Rights said Ulery of
his endorsement. NHLA is a nonpartisan coalition
working to increase individual political freedom
in the Granite State.
Yet another endorsement was received by the
National Federation of Independent Business.
NFIB is Americas leading small business
association, promoting & protecting the right of
our members to own, operate and grow their
businesses. Ulery is himself a small business
operator running an investigative rm. NFIB is
a key resource for the small business operator hit
hard by the recent increase in fees, costly over
regulation and business taxes, said Ulery of his
endorsement. It is an honor to be recognized
for ghting for the backbone of New Hampshire
economy, the small business man.
Jordan Ulery is running for state representative
from Hillsborough District 37 comprising the

Te primary for state and federal of ces is soon upon
us. Tis years primary will be on Tuesday, September
9. I have met and spoken with several candidates and,
unlike previous years, have decided to endorse 3 people
who are seeking to be nominated as Republican State
Representative, State Senator and, US Senator.
I came to know State Representative Robert Bob
Haefner some nine years ago and shortly after I became
a member of the Hudson Board of Selectmen. Bob let
me know that he would always be there for council and
to provide his assistance on any matter which he could
infuence from his seat in the State House. Bob has
been true to his word and has served our community
tirelessly and without reservation. Further, Bob has
been a primary member of the House Agriculture
Committee and he has strongly advocated for the
preservation of farm lands in our State. Bobs record of
service to and for us in Concord is deserving of our vote
to return him to the State House.
I have met and spoken with the three candidates for
the position of Congress. Two of the candidates have
spent a lot of money tearing into each other and, so
much so, that it has caused a divide in the Republican
party. Tey have, by their actions and counter
accusations, shown what is wrong in Washington today.
We are faced with a House of Representatives who do
little but, when they do show up for work, spend all of
their time putting each other down. Is it any wonder
that the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S.
Senate are sharing their lowest approval ratings ever?
I have spoken with James Jim Lawrence who is a
resident of Hudson. He is a late entrant into that race
but, for me, a welcoming voice that needs to be heard.
I am convinced that our interest will be better served
by an individual like Jim who would be willing to work
both sides of the aisle in order to serve his state and his
country. Our national afairs are in disarray. Te last
thing we need is another representative who will do
nothing more than sit there and argue and do nothing
all day then take of for six to eight week vacations
rather than tend to the needs of our Country.
I wholeheartedly endorse U.S. Senatorial candidate
Scott Brown with the same fervor I endorse the two
previously mentioned candidates. I frst met Scott and
his wife Gail at a local Hudson Restaurant. We shared
our thoughts about serving our respective communities
as a member of a Board of Selectmen. Scotts frst
foray was as a selectman and we were able to make a
connection.
Since then, I have met Scott several times along the
campaign trail in Hudson. I was impressed with the
manner in which he conducted himself in the U.S.
Senate as he was one of the few who was willing to work
both sides of the aisles. Senator Scott Brown will work
feverishly for the beneft of our state and for our nation.
Please consider these three candidates when you go
to the polls on Primary day. Please exercise your right
to vote and assert your right to have a voice in this
election.
Roger E. Coutu, Hudson
Back Candidates who
Believe in Change
Te Litchfeld Republican Town Committee needs
you! Whether youre a Republican or a like-minded
Independent who believes that a change is needed, the
Litchfeld Republican Town Committee seeks your help
and participation. Tey need your support to ensure
the election of candidates who believe in the principles
of fscal restraint, freedom from burdensome regulations
and a government who works for us instead of against
us.
So, why not join a winning team? Dont sit
on the sidelines, now is the time for you to dig in
and participate! Te Litchfeld Republican Town
Committee has recently re-organized and is seeking
your participation to get this state and our nation
back on track. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of
each month at New England Small Tube. Come and
join us if your do not want six more years of the same
mediocrity and poor performance as we have now! For
more information, call 233-3276.
Joan Fulton, Litchfeld
It is Nice to Vote for a
True Non-politician
One of the challenges we often face during election
season is that we are forced to vote for the lesser of
two evils because no good candidates are willing to
put themselves and their families through the political
mudslinging of our times. Tat is why voting in this
upcoming primary will be such a pleasure. For once
there is a candidate that I am thrilled to vote for:
Walt Havenstein. How often do we get a true non-
politician with world class experience that is willing and
enthusiastic to take on the politics of our time and try
to lead our state to a better future? Walt has already
served his country in the United States Marine Corps
and has led multiple multi-billion dollar international
technology companies. He has been a leader in
bringing an excitement for science and technology
education throughout the world through his eforts with
FIRST Robotics, and has focused on charity work closer
to home also. I have had the pleasure to know Walt for
over a decade and can think of no one who can better
help us defne and achieve a better outcome for our
state, and especially our businesses and future business
leaders (our children).
I proudly served in the United States Navy and am
always disappointed when I hear that people did not
show up to exercise their right and privilege to vote. I
have often heard that this is because there are no good
candidates, only more of the same politicians. You do
not have that excuse this time. Please, no matter who
you support, vote in the Primary on September 9th and
in the General Election on November 4. Please join
me in voting for a candidate who deserves our support:
Walt Heavenstein for governor.
Clark Freise, Litchfeld
Dont Ignore the Signs
In case you havent noticed all the signs on the
roadside, its election time again.
Tere will be a State Primary on September 9 and a
State Election on November 4.
For the Primary, members of the Republican and
Democratic parties will be able to vote for their
candidates for state of ce to be placed on November 4
ballot. Tose voters who are undeclared (independent)
will be able to select one of the party ballots to vote
for their candidates. Please be aware that if you are
registered as a member of one of the parties, you may
not take a ballot for the other party.
Voting for the Town of Hudson will take place at the
Hudson Community Center on Lions Avenue from 7
a.m. to 8 p.m.
Te NH Voter ID law is still in place, so it will take
a few extra seconds for the clerks to verify the voter on
the checklist with their photo ID. Below is a list of the
kinds of ID that are acceptable in New Hampshire:
Drivers license issued by any state or federal
government. (Expired licenses are valid for
fve years. However, if you are 65 years or
older, expired licenses are valid beyond fve
years.);
ID card issued by NH DMV or motor
vehicle agency of another state;
A photo ID
card for voting
identifcation
only issued by
the NH DMV;
U.S. Armed
Services ID card;
U.S. Passport
or passcard (even
if expired);
Valid NH
student ID card;
Other photo ID deemed legitimate by the
supervisors of the checklist, the moderator, or
the Town Clerk; or
Verifcation of identity by a supervisor of the
checklist, the moderator or the clerk.
Any voter who does not have a valid photo ID will be
required to sign a Challenged Voter Af davit and give
an oath as to their identity and voter qualifcation. Te
Secretary of State and the Attorney Generals of ce will
be verifying these af davits following the election.
You may register to vote on Election Day. Please
see the Supervisors of the Checklist in the Community
Center. You will need to bring documentation for proof
of: citizenship, age, and residence.
As election of cials, we do our best to make the
voting process as ef cient and easy as possible. We
appreciate the voters patience at the check-in as we
follow the state required process. Please show your ID
and state your name clearly to the ballot clerks so they
can fnd it on the checklist and verify your ID, address,
and party af liation.
Paul Inderbitzen, Town Moderator, Hudson
Estevez not Afraid to
Tackle Tough Issues
I am happy to recommend Eric Estevez for your vote
in the upcoming September 9 primary election for state
representative in the towns of Pelham and Hudson.
Estevez is a very compassionate young man who will
represent you with honesty, integrity, and most of all,
watch out for you, the voter. I know Eric will do that
and more.
In my lifetime, I have never met a more caring and
compassionate person. On several occasions, he has
personally donated to several charities and helped
several people in need. For example, Eric recently
donated his time and money to a disabled veterans
organization in the state to honor his grandfather who
served in World War II and his brother who served in
Iraq and Afghanistan. He is a person who is not out
there for himself or his own selfsh interests. He cares
about you, the voter, and your family.
Although, I dont live in your area, I have many
friends who do and I felt it was important to let you
know that Eric Estevez is the best person for the job.
Many times, candidates will say they will represent you,
work for you, and make the best decisions for you and
then they do the complete opposite. Eric Estevez is a
man of his word. He will never betray us. He is a very
ambitious, smart, and articulate young man who is not
afraid to tackle the tough issues that face our state today.
His character, educational and professional credentials
make him the best candidate.
I know I am proud to endorse Eric Estevez. He
will work hard on a number of issues facing our state
today such as job creation and fghting taxes, and more.
Please consider giving Eric Estevez your vote for state
representative on September 9.

Michael Tranfaglia: Adhering
to Platform Principles
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce
myself and my intentions. My name is Michael
Tranfaglia and I am running for one of the seven
delegate positions to the State Convention from
Hudson.
Te delegate position plays a great part in setting
the stage for the men and women whom we intend to
represent us, and I want to do everything I can to ensure
the Republican party adheres to the platform principles.
I want those that would be our elected of cials to
know that raising and introducing additional taxes and
fees in New Hampshire is not an option. Te people of
New Hampshire should keep more of what they earn.
Our tax burdens should be reduced and our elected
of cials should discourage careless state and federal
spending.
I want increased opportunity in New Hampshire.
Our elected of cials should work to promote New
Hampshire business growth and not drive it out
with confning regulations, fees, and overreaching
government interference. I want the parents of New
Hampshire to have control of their childrens education
and our elected of cials to stand against the disaster that
is Common Core.
Our elected of cials must recognize their duty to
stand and protect our civil liberties. Our First, Second
and Fourth Amendment rights are being dismantled at
every turn. We should expect nothing less than for our
elected of cials to defend those individual rights.
Im running for a delegate position to help ensure
the Republican Party adheres to the positions described
above. I look forward to your vote on September 9 as a
delegate to the State Convention.
Michael Tranfaglia, Hudson
More Letters to our Editor
Continued from page 4
Many interesting statements are made by town
ofcials during meetings and other gatherings.
While most dont warrant enough for a full story
for our readers, some are great ideas, forward
thinking and others make you say what? Or just
shake your head. Our newspaper staff members
when out and about are often asked questions, as
if we should know more than the average citizen.
Sometimes we do, but many times we have to
make phone calls to nd out.
Take a moment to ponder these thought-
provoking happenings around Hudson and
Litcheld:
Good News for Taxpayers
The fox usually looks for an elected ofcial with
their foot, or in some cases, feet in their mouth.
However, at Mondays August 18 Hudson School
Board meeting, hidden under the limelight was a
statement from Karen Burnell and conrmed by
Bryan Lane that while the auditor had not nished
their review, indication is the expenditures were
below expectation and revenues exceeded
projection. If that is true, there will be funds to
support the approved warrant article for $50,000
in a special needs fund and then could still be an
excess which would be returned to the taxpayers.
Burnell could not release an amount until she
had advised the school board. But the good news
for taxpayers should be known during the school
board meeting next week.
No Shows at BOS Meeting
The public session of the Board of Selectmens
Monday night meeting was over by 7:30 p.m.
Sridevil Kancharta was appointed to the Benson
Park Committee. Meanwhile, the folks rumored
to speak in public input about parking tickets
handed out at the Hudson Speedway this
weekend were no-shows.
Not All is Well with Water
Even the selectmens remarks were
unremarkable except for Selectmen Maddox
mentioning to the board that they need to
manage the affairs of the town, primarily the
towns dependence on only one well for the
water system and while two attempts to site
another with divining rods had failed, we need to
continue to nd a back up. Maddox mentioned
that at the rate we are proceeding Selectmen
Nadeaus children would be in college before
something was done. Selectman Nadeau agreed
that there was a need and advised the board that
Logan was 5 and Brady was 3. When questioned,
Town Administrator Steve Malizia stated that
when we need to buy water from Pennichuck we
pay the retail rate of $2.09 per cubic foot, while,
currently, the towns production cost is pennies.
Maddox also mentioned the ongoing need for
a repair for the Lenny Smith Central Fire Station.
Both topics were scheduled to be reviewed at the
boards next workshop meeting.

Submarine Group 2 Public Affairs
Friends and family of USS New Hampshire
(SSN 778) were all smiles despite rainy
weather on August 13 as the Virginia-class
attack submarine arrived in Groton, Conn.,
completing a six-month overseas deployment.
New Hampshire departed Naval Submarine
Base New London, Conn., on February 11 to
conduct maritime operations in the U.S. 6th
Fleet area of responsibility and made port
visits in the United Kingdom and Norway.
New Hampshires superb mission
execution was vital to national strategic and
theater security objectives, said 6th Fleet
commander Vice Adm. Philip Davidson in a
message to the crew. As you return home
to family and friends, you can be very
proud of a job well done.
Friends and family gathered in a
local meeting hall on the eve of the
submarines return. Many expressed
excitement that the six-month wait was
over.
Retired Lt. Cmdr. Wendy Chiado said
she was looking forward to hugging the
best cook in the Navy. Her son,
Culinary Specialist 1st Class Seth
Chiado, 27, has been a member
of New Hampshires crew since
2010.
Petty Ofcer Chiados mom and
dad traveled from Colorado to
meet him on the pier alongside his
wife Sarah, two-year-old daughter,
and two aunts.
Sarah and Petty Ofcer Chiados
other two kids, ages 8 and 10,
were unable to greet dad because
they were at camp. But Sarah
said the kids closely tracked each
passing day of the deployment by
marking a calendar to signal one
step closer to the end.
For Sarah personally, the
end means the return of Petty
Ofcer Chiado and his help at home raising their three children, a
sentiment New Hampshires commanding ofcer understands.
I have to thank our families for the tremendous sacrice and
support they showed while we were away accomplishing our
mission, said Cmdr. Sean Fujimoto who assumed command in
2012.
USS New Hampshire is equipped to attack land targets with
highly accurate Tomahawk cruise missiles, conduct covert
surveillance and support special forces in addition to other warfare
missions.
We just completed a challenging deployment, demonstrating
an incredible level of endurance. It would not have been possible
without the ingenuity, hard work and selessness of the men I serve
with, said Fujimoto.
The crew of more than 130 sailors can operate the 377-foot-long
vessel at depths greater than 800 feet and speeds in excess of 25
knots when submerged.
The USS New Hampshire was commissioned in October 2008
and is the third Navy ship named for the nations ninth state.

Ninth Annual Kelly
Mann Memorial Run/
Walk Benefts Bridges
submitted by Pamela Auer
On Saturday September 27,the ninth annual Kelly Mann Memorial
5K Run and 3K Fun Walk will be held in Nashua. This event is part of
the Toyota of Nashua Gate City Series.
In July 2004, Kelly Mann was brutally murdered by her husband
in her Nashua home, while her three children listened in a nearby
room. On that day in July, Kellys three young daughters were forced
to experience a trauma that has changed their lives forever.
With loving support of their family and friends, Kellys daughters,
Ashley and Lauren Mann, approached Bridges: Domestic and Sexual
Violence Support with the idea of a fundraiser in memory of their
mother. Bridges was honored to participate in this important event.
This extraordinary fundraiser will provide funding for Bridges;
give awareness to the community; and allow the community to
show its support in ending domestic violence. Most importantly,
this fundraiser will help Kellys daughters to heal and allow them to
celebrate her memory with others.
The race will be held at Sunset Heights Elementary School, 15
Osgood Rd., Nashua. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.
This is a at, fast, certied 5K course with timing by Millennium
Running. Great rafe prizes, runner bags and more!
All proceeds will go to Bridges: Domestic and Sexual Violence
Support in their effort to eliminate domestic and sexual violence
and to provide a safe and empowering environment for victims and
survivors. To register go to www.bridgesnh.org.

GMS Buttery Garden Gets Beautifed
submitted by K. Sullivan
The buttery garden at Litchelds Grifn Memorial School got a beautiful face-lift last week. Families from the school
dug in and pulled weeds, trimmed bushes, and spruced up the school in preparation for the rst day. Organized by
the PTOs Liz MacDonald, this is an annual event encouraging students and their families to take pride in their school.
Special thanks to the Corbett, MacDonald, Barka, Richardson, and MacKinnon families for stopping by to make GMS

Making
dental care
enjoyable
and
comfort-
able at
home is
essential to
encourage
children to brush. Allowing
children more involvement
in choosing the kind of
toothpaste and toothbrush
is one step towards this
end. Another step would
involve enlistment of an
older sibling to serve as a
mentor for the younger child;
helping them brush and floss
as well as choosing proper
snack foods. Still another
step would involve weekly
"smile inspections" by the
parent(s). Monitoring oral
hygiene techniques is a
good idea with rewards for
extra effort providing the
incentive.
Children are our primary
targets towards better dental
care. Children with a good
attitude towards oral care
become an adult with a
commitment to oral health.

Hudson Fire Explorers Feel the Heat
Showtime Hosts Chamber Event
TX Governor Perry
Visits Granite State
by Len Lathrop
Explorer Post 551 of the
Hudson Fire Department and
their supervisors were in full
gear Tuesday evening when they
burned the accumulated bush
and tree tops the volunteers
piled as they cleared the eld for
construction at Zach Memorial
Field.
As nature would have it, the Explorers got a true
taste of what 451 degrees Fahrenheit felt like as the
temperature at the complex was just under 90 degrees.
Captain Morin supervised the burning and kept the
Scouts hydrated and rested.

submitted by Donna M.A. Collins, Harbor Homes, Inc.
Harbor Homes of Nashua, a non-prot organization providing
housing, healthcare and supportive services to those challenged with
homelessness and/or mental illness, was one of only four organizations
in New Hampshire to receive a generous grant from the Health
Resources and Services Administration, a branch of the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services.
Approximately $55 million, which will nance a total of 221 awards,
will be available through the scal year 2014 Affordable Care Act
Mental Health Service Expansion program. We are so grateful for this
grant. Integrating medical and behavioral services reduces the stigma
of receiving care for a mental illness, improves access to services,
and improves the efciency of the care, as it enables all providers and
patients to work together as a team, said Carol Furlong, vice president
of Operations at Harbor Homes.
The timing could not be better for this inltration of funds for Harbor
Homes. In October 2014, the agency will be opening its newly
rehabilitated, state-of-the-art Harbor Care Health and Wellness Center,
which will be expanding its services to meet the critical healthcare
needs of the individuals and families it serves: those who are homeless,
uninsured and/or low income. No one is turned away regardless of
their ability to pay for services. Thanks to the newly awarded HRSA
grant, the center will be able to signicantly expand its current,
crucially needed mental
and behavioral healthcare
services. In addition, the
center will offer expanded
primary and preventive health
care services, along with new
assistance such as dental
care, vision and audiology
services, respite care, and a
number of other benets for
its clients, including incentive
programs to promote better
health outcomes.

Thumbs down to the pie eating contest
for children at Old Homes Days. Children
should never be rewarded for eating junk or
over indulging. Imagine a child eating a pie
the fastest, winning a competition and seeing
his friends and family proud of him/her. What
happens next? They feel proud about how much
they can eat and then they over eat again and
again leading to obesity and all the problems
that go along with it. Food addiction is serious
business. Its difcult to
break. Lets not contribute
to it further. Lets give kids
a competition they can
really be proud of.
Thumbs up! Way up
to Papa aka John P L Jr. for
your perseverance and no
quit attitude! Even though
we cant remember the
last time you won against
my dad in bumper pool,
you keep wanting to play
each time we come over.
It cant be easy to lose the
way you do, but youve
taught me to always take
on the challenge and to
never give up (even if you
havent won since the
beginning of 2014). Best
of luck! Love, Trey
Thumbs up to all the
very talented singers at
Hudson Old Home Days!
There were so many great
singers who deserved to
make the nals. Thumbs
down to the judging of the
contest. This is a singing
contest, not a politically
correct contest. If you
are going to charge a
registration fee and have
people compete more than
one day, you need to judge
this as a real contest.
Thumbs down to town
government, how do they
get away with charging
auto regs. based on the
original list price of your
car? So if you bought a
car for $30,000 10 to 15
years ago and its worth
maybe $3,000 now, if
you want to renew it they
use the original list price,
whereas the State bases
their fee on gross vehicle
weight, which seems fair,
so with the towns logic
they should assess my
house taxes on my original
assessed value when I
bought it. Ya, right keep
dreaming.
Thumbs down to the
comment that having a
stay-at-home parent not
only hurts the children but
also their spouse by not
contributing to retirement.
First off, it is ignorant to
claim that families with a stay-at-home parent
hurt their children; there are many pros and cons
to both family situations. Secondly, as one of
those spouses being hurt, I for one am more
than happy that my spouse is home with our
child and happily contribute extra towards our
future retirement.
Thumbs down to the person that felt the
money they found in Hannafords was theirs to
keep. I called hoping someone brought it to
Customer Service. Please, if you have any heart
at all, return the $120.
Thumbs down to the condition of the
cemetery on Burnham Road. Is the lawn going to
be mowed? It looks very sad.
Thumbs down. Way down to the Litcheld
Youth Soccer Board. The blatant favoritism for
certain age groups and players is unforgivable.
Wake up this is youth sports! You have cut whole
rosters to satisfy the demands of the chosen few.
Not only did you kill the spirits of my child and
her teammates who has played for years, but a
whole new group of children I am hearing who
tried out for the rst time this year. Way to go!
Apparently if you dont know the President of the
board, or dont start playing when you are eight,
you are shut out of travel soccer forever. Why
have tryouts? Time to walk away and let others
who can work the rosters step in and not only
make the teams fair but keep all age level teams
for the boys and the girls.
Thumbs up to Jody F. and her Champion
Tracker Dalmatian, Nicky! Congratulations on
your huge achievement! We are so proud of
both of you!
Thumbs down to the large commercial paving
contractor and materials supplier on Barretts Hill
Road. Your business is located in a residential
neighborhood. Several times
this week Ive had to listen to
the beeping of your trucks and
smashing of rocks prior to 7 a.m.
Why are you not made to follow
the noise ordinance rules of the
town? Its rude and disrespectful
to the close by surrounding
community in which you do
business.
Thumbs down to
the person who hit
and killed the cat
the morning of the
21st on Riverside
Ave. Im pretty
sure I know who
you are and cant
believe you can be
so heartless as to
not stop. You know
what they say about
Karma? Please people, slow down
on this road, There are children
and pets out there and this is not
the rst time. Maybe the Hudson
Police should take a little time to
sit on this road and see how fast
people actually travel on it, 5 a.m.
to 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m. is not
safe.
Thumbs down to the
laundromat. Their large machines,
which are expensive, werent
working and not only did I lose my
money, I had to drag the clothes to
other machines
and pay again.
They said they
would meet me
and refund my
money. Well,
I never got my
money and Ive
left numerous
messages. They
just hang up
on me when I
call now. Great
way to run a
business!
Thumbs
down in Hudson/Litcheld. Tis
the season of change and the
sudden reality that those things are
now going to bite you where you
thought no one would nd them
and yes old dogs dont change
cause a pig is still a pig!
Thumbs down to Kelly Ayotte
for endorsing Scott Brown. Hes
getting mucho out of state money.
Massachusetts didnt want him.
New Hampshire doesnt want him
either. I guess shes just following
the money trail rather than thinking
of the people of NH. Shame on
her.
Thumbs up/Thumbs down.
Beware of Market Basket
competitors! Ground pork priced
at $2.99 a package rang up as
$4.99. Mangos at 69 cents each
rang up as 99 cents each. When I
went to the service desk, the clerk attempted to
give me less than what the store policy required.
So check, check, check your receipts!
Thumbs up/Thumbs down. Why did
Dick Cheney come out to criticize Obamas
efforts in Iraq? Was it to regenerate action to
keep American forces in Iraq? Or to support
his beloved Halliburton? Bush and Cheney
administration gave Halliburton a strong foothold
in this area. So why not keep the prot owing?
Could businesses like Halliburton secretly
support terrorists? After all, Bush is an oil man
from day one. Look for snakes.
Thumbs up/Thumbs down. Now we know
that the anointed one, Obama, had a choice:
To rescue the NH reporter or take care of his
legacy. He chose the latter, and so Foley was
moved to another site and then killed. I nd that,
at the least, grounds for impeachment among
many other disgusting actions and scandals on
Obamas head. Lies, lies, lies galore!
Thumbs up to the U4 Hudson-Litcheld
Bears football players and coaches! Thank you
for taking a knee at the halftime of your Pelham
game on Saturday night and watching our
cheerleaders routine. It was refreshing to watch
and hear the coaches recognize how the girls
are there to cheer the boys on at their games and
be paid the same respect. Class act and much
appreciated!
Thumbs up/Thumbs down. Well now a nice
thumbs up to the social networks out there, it is
just so easy and quick to spread things around
with pictures on the internet and remove them
after they have been viewed but it is also sad that
everyone seems to have those they work with
wanting a good laugh about sele left too long.
Thumbs up to remembering to get your Blue
Bin for Recycling out the night before!
Thumbs down to the increase in trafc we
will see next week when school starts. Hey
Moms! We have buses in town. Put your kids on
them!
Thumbs down to kids forgetting their lunch,
instrument, or project! (I bet they dont forget
their phone, do they?) Heres an idea Moms
and Dads the next time your child forgets
something, take their phone for a day. Betcha
they remember better next time!
Thumbs up to saving Hudson $$$s by
recycling!

Challenger Sports soccer camp came back to Litcheld last week.
Almost 40 campers came to play and learn soccer skills with three
coaches from England.
Half-day and full-day camp options were available. Campers
were split into two groups by
age in the morning and then
again into different countries
to vie for World Cup status.
The coaches chose countries
to represent where the
coaches and kids were from
(England and the U.S.) and
then other countries not so
commonly thought of for
the World Cup to help them
learn about other parts of the
world, too.
In the afternoon, the
full-day campers would
scrimmage and play more
soccer games. Each day, the
campers could earn points for their country
through scrimmages or daily challenges. Some
challenges included bringing in ve facts about
your country, making a really sweet or gross treat for the coach to
taste, and making a ag for your country (extra points were given for
smallest, largest, most unique, tastiest, etc.).
At the end of the week, all points were tallied and the winners were
announced.
For the 8 and under group, Austria came out on top by defeating
New Zealand, Canada, China, Denmark and Iceland. For the 9 and
over group, the USA was the winner after earning more points than
Peru, England and Bosnia.
Most importantly, the kids all had a blast.
Special thanks to coaches Andy Harrison (Manchester), Kieran
Sanderson (Leeds) and Bevan Gateeld (Ipswich) for giving the kids a
great week of fun and soccer.

Reach Top Mileage on Your Car With it Still Going Strong
Many drivers may nd the idea of keeping a vehicle that has sur-
passed the 100,000-mile mark preposterous. However, perhaps due
to the rising cost of new vehicles, many drivers now recognize the
benets of keeping their vehicles for the long haul.
According to Polk research, many of todays drivers are keeping
their cars for longer periods of time, with the average age of all cars
on the road being 11 years. In October of 2011,
Joe LoCicero saw his 1990 Honda Accord crack
the one million mile mark, a feat for which Honda
awarded him a new Accord and a parade in his
hometown.
There are many benets to keeping a car longer,
including the nancial impact of such a decision.
In a recent survey and study from Consumer Re-
ports, the savings of keeping a vehicle for 225,000
miles over 15 years versus purchasing and nanc-
ing an identical model every ve years equated to
a savings of more than the original purchase price
of the car. A person can potentially save $20,000
or more on a properly maintained older car.
Keeping a car running beyond
200,000 miles was once pure
luck. Cars made 10 to 20 years
ago might not have been up
to the task. But improvements
in rust prevention, lubricants and engine technology have made it
easier for todays vehicles to last longer. But as durable and reliable
as todays cars may be, AAA notes the importance of regular mainte-
nance.
Knowing your car is one of the rst ways to make sure it gets the
service it needs. Over time, many drivers start to identify warning
signs, such as abnormal noises or if the vehicle simply feels off when
out on the road.
Finding a mechanic that can be trusted is an important step for
drivers who want to keep their vehicles going strong for years to
come. A driver is more likely to bring the car in for service if the
price is right and he or she does not feel like any costly and unnec-
essary repairs are being recommended. Building a good relationship
with a mechanic can keep a car working longer. Newer model year
cars can be taken to dealership mechanics, who may have a better
working knowledge of newer electronics and the subtleties of spe-
cic models of cars.
The owners manual should not be something that simply takes up
space inside the glove compartment. It is worthy of a read. Under-
standing the recommended maintenance schedule and what other
steps can be taken to prolong the life of the car can keep it on the
road longer. Keeping the tires inated to the proper pressure and us-
ing the right type of gasoline are
the types of information that can
be found in the manual. Driv-
ers can save a lot of money on
unnecessary repairs if they follow
these guidelines.
Many people are keeping their
vehicles longer, reaching mile
marks that were once unheard of.
Investing in a car that has a good
track record of longevity and then
properly maintaining the vehicle
are necessary to getting the most
out of your vehicle investment.

Sagamore Bridge Accident
Results in DWI Arrest
submitted by Hudson Police Department
On Sunday, August 10, at 11:44 a.m., members
of the Hudson Police and Fire departments
responded to the intersection of the Sagamore
Bridge (inbound lanes of travel) at Lowell
Road for a report of a collision involving two
motor vehicles. Upon arrival, members of the
Hudson Police Department Patrol Division
determined a white 2014 Dodge Ram pick-up
truck, being operated by Shelley Maynard, 29, of
Tyngsborough, Mass., had collided with a silver
2005 Nissan Sentra occupied by a male and
female passenger.
A preliminary investigation indicated the 2014
Dodge Ram pick-up truck being operated by
Maynard collided with the right rear corner and
right side of the 2005 Nissan
Sentra, which was stopped in
trafc. Ultimately, Maynard
was arrested for Aggravated
DWI (blood alcohol content
over .16) and Open Container.
Maynards bail was set at $140
cash only bail. As of this
writing, it is unknown as to
whether or not Maynard will be
able to produce the monetary
amount necessary for bail.
All parties involved in the collision were
evaluated by members of the Hudson Fire
Department; however, they were not transported
to a medical facility via ambulance.

Joey Pole Scores First ACT Win of Year in Can-Am 200
submitted by Jimy Weaver
With two points races left in the American
Canadian Tour season Joey Polewarczyk (Pole),
Jr. and the number 97NH Poles Automotive team
went into Riverside Speedway, the eighth race of
the nine race season, up 58 points over second-
place driver Jimmy Hebert. This 200-lap race on
the 7/8 mile track would prove tough on both
man and machine as 33 starting cars would be
dwindled down to 16 by lap 200.
Joey would start the 200-lap main event from
the fourth position as a result of a plus-two from
his qualifying heat race while Series ACT regular
and multiple-time Riverside Speedway winner
Alex Labbe would start from the pole position. I
had a different feeling going
into the race. I was extremely
comfortable in the car just
rolling out onto the track, said
Joey. Joey would run in the
top ve all evening battling
front runners Alex Labbe,
Jean-Francois Dery, Wayne
Helliwell, Jr., and Jonathan
Bouvrette.
The nal restart of the night
would be on lap 175. Joey
would line up on the outside of
the front row of two-time and
defending ACT champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. When the green ag
ew for the nal time Helliwell would jump out in front while Joey
held steady in second. Lap 178 would change the outcome of the
race drastically for the top-two contenders. Helliwell would suffer
a mechanical failure in the steering of his number 27NH, which
would hand the lead to Joey in the Poles Automotive/Dojo Sante
Ford Fusion. Pole would lead the nal 22 circuits en route to his rst
win of the 2014 ACT season.
We were going to nish second to Wayne. I caught him a little
bit then we evened out. He had his mechanical issue and we were
in a position to take advantage of it. That has been our philosophy
this year. Be there at the end of these things and sometimes you can
steal one, said the smiling Pole. Second-place
points driver Jimmy Hebert would have issues as
well nishing in 24th position moving Ray Parent
into the second-place points position.
On September 27 the ACT tour with roll into
Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY, for the
nal points-paying event of the 2014 season. Joey will go into the
race with a commanding 112-point lead in the drivers points over
the 17RI Ray Parent, and Joe Pole, Sr. will go in with a 54-point lead
in the owners standings over Bruce Bernhardt, owner of the 27NH
driven by Wayne Helliwell, Jr. and Larry Gelinas.
Joeys next race will be September 13-14 for PASS 400 weekend
at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. For more
information, visit www.JoeyPole.com @JoeyPoleRacing on Twitter
and www.facebook.com/JoeyPolewarczykJr on Facebook.

Campbell Teams Prepare for 2014 Season
by Marc Ayotte
Another fall sports season has descended
upon Cougar Country, and with it, a pair of
coaching changes on the soccer sidelines has
occurred, altering the landscape just a bit.
Long-time girls soccer Coach Bob Gannon
remains in the CHS coaching ranks, but this
year will be heading up the boys program.
Filling his shoes in the role of Lady Cougars
soccer coach will be Gary Karibian who
guided the St. Thomas Aquinas girls program
to a state title in 2010.
Elsewhere, Greg Gush enters his second
season at the helm of a talented and
promising football team; Kelly Fraser will be back for his
fourth season as boys and girls cross country coach;
Colin Walker returns for his fth season as the girls varsity
volleyball coach; and golf Coach Jeff ODonnell will guide
the Cougars down the fairways for his second season.
Football
Last year, head football Coach Greg Gush was a later-
comer onto the Campbell scene, having been hired only in
June of that year. Nonetheless, the energetic and tactical
rst-year coach led his Cougars to a 5-3 record, and just
missed out on post season play. This year, with a full
year under his belt, along with the addition of some key
coaches to his staff, Gush is looking towards an even more
productive season.
With egos aside, Gush and his staff stand among the
few that will coach based on the talent his players possess
and not implement a particular system just because thats
what the coach has always done in the past. You have to
gure out who you are then do what ts, noted Gush regarding the
recognition of individual players talents. Specically addressing
the offense, Gush added, We have to tailor our offense around the
talent we have. Here are our strengths how can we take advantage
of that?
Some of that talent comes in the form of 10 returning starters;
among them, senior offensive threats QB Kyle Manning, WR Kevin
Moreau, and RB Christian Kamacho. We played 25-26 kids in
every varsity game last year, noted Gush. Our goal is to have as
many one-way starters as we can. As far as offensive Xs and Os
are concerned, Gush hopes to be a little more balanced this year:
Last year we were pass heavy. Regarding the other side of the
line of scrimmage, Gush said, I dont think we were very good
last season. This year we are committed to being a better defensive
football team.
Overall, Gush and company have every intention of making
the post season this fall. With the last regular season game slated
for Halloween night (October 31), Gush offered, Our goal is to
be competitive every week and wed like to be playing sometime
in November. We have some speed and kids who can catch the
football; I think thats a good combination to have. And in the
intangible department for his winning formula, Gush boasted of
the efforts of one David Mailhiot, We unequivocally have the best
manager in any sport in New Hampshire.
Boys Soccer
After ve seasons patrolling the girls soccer sidelines, a tenure
that featured ve nal-four appearances as well as an undefeated
season and state title in 2009, Head Coach Bob Gannon will be
employing his winning ways with the boys team this fall. Key
returners for Gannons crew come in the form of his three senior
captains: Connor Cote, Nicholas Covert and Jake Guarino. Other
key personnel include Tim Furlong and Hayeden Stagnone. Battling
for the keeper position, which is still up in the air, is a trio of players:
Dan Wallace, Matt Gagne and Sean French. Matt and Sean both
are basketball players, which I like they have good hands and
reexes, expressed Gannon.
In getting away from last years style of play
which involved a kick and run approach,
Gannons objective this season will be to
utilize a strategy which paid dividends for
the Lady Cougars. Our goal this year is
to play a more controlled, on-the-ground,
game, explained Gannon. Ive never been a
proponent of kick and run. Id rather involve
the whole team and keep the ball on the
ground.
Offensively, the Cougars dont have the
conventional go-to guy that many teams
feature, although Gannon did praise the
talents of Nicholas Covert; he is fast as lightning and really
skilled with the ball. In a philosophy that reects a more
balanced attack, the head coach noted, If everyone is willing
to give, everyone eventually will get. Everyone has potential
to be that leading goal scorer.
With the pre-season coming to a close, Gannon said of his
personnel thus far; I think I have a ton of talent. The biggest
obstacle is getting them to play together. Campbell opens up
the regular season on September 2 when they host Sanborn.
Girls Soccer
Meanwhile, the mini-dynasty that Bob built is being taken
over by a coach with plenty of experience. In addition to
Marching his Saints to the promise land in 2009, Karibian
has coached the NH Phantoms and Nashua World Cup team
as well as having stints at Alvirne and Trinity. Additionally,
Karibian has also coached many of the current players in a
girls summer league. He will be joined on the sidelines by
Assistant Coach Alison Lajoie, who graduated from CHS in
2009 and played collegiately at St. Michaels.
Karibian is fortunate to have a talented core of returning players
for his inaugural season at Campbell. Included in the group are
Captain Hannah Neild, Olivia Crema, Nikki Golden, Savannah
Reinitzer, Emily Moreau and Kali Trunca. A pair of juniors, Jaime
Jutras and Jess Manning, is competing for a chance to protect the
goal as the Lady Cougar keep. But as Karibian indicated, its not a
winner-take-all scenario; both players have expressed interest in
(also) playing on the eld.
In general terms, Karibian admitted that this team will have a
different look, style, feel. Specically, he mentioned his approach
will focus on defense while having a balanced attack on offense.
Were going to have a good run this season and compete for a state
championship; thats my goal, conveyed Karibian, whose squad
opens up with a home game on Friday, August 29 versus Pelham.
Cross Country
With 24 incoming freshmen joining this years cross country team,
Head Coach Kelly Fraser said, I have a good mix of veterans and
young kids. Fraser remembers having 17 members on the team
when he started four years ago and notes that this year the team will
have a total of approximately 60 runners representing the combined
teams. With both the boys and girls teams having nished in the
top third of all the D-III teams last season, Fraser offered; I think
well be competitive; Im looking for a high nish this year.
Leading the Cougars on the various X-C courses this fall will be
Sean Munnelly. He nished 15th at the states last year, noted
Fraser of the seniors 2013 achievement, adding, and we expect
big things from him again this year. Munnelly will be gunning
for the CHS record books again this season. He has the fourth
fastest time in the 5,000 meter race, in school history, trailing only
Shane Whalen, who posted three faster times while running for the
Cougars some ten years ago.
Also expected to do well for the boys team are
Mike Gray (junior) and Sam Munnelly; Im looking
forward to him stepping up big this year as well,
offered Fraser of the other half of the Munnelly
tandem.
On the girls side, Jamie Minervini, who was the
top nisher at the states last year as a sophomore,
Sammy Molinari, who also had a strong showing at
the Derryeld course, along with fourth year runner
and Captain Kaliegh Whitnell are expected to lead
the Lady Cougars this season.
Volleyball
Although the Cougars lost star players Brianna
Hardy and Alex Trevains as well as a key role player
in Rebecca Landreau to graduation this past June,
coach Colin Walker has the rest of his team pretty
much intact for what he hopes will be another
strong run at the D-III title. We have a good core
of girls that have been together for a while, said
Walker. Over the past two seasons, Walkers teams
have posted a combined 31-4 record, and he has
the talent again this season to add to that stellar
mark.
Olivia Martinage will be an impact player for the
Lady Cougars this year as she moves over to the
outside hitter position. A welcomed addition to the
Cougar attack will be freshman Gabby Sott, of who
Walker says, is an outside player that can hit from
the middle as well as weak side. Also joining the
team, and playing the middle, will be senior transfer
Meredith Marr, who makes her way to Cougar
Country after playing for the Cardinals of Bishop
Guertin. Marr, according to Walker, will help ll in
the loss of Hannah Saviano transferring to Trinity.
So far this pre-season, Walker has intentionally
scheduled D-I and D-II schools, which are noted for
their quicker pace and more aggressive style of play,
and he is very pleased with the teams performance.
Earning specic kudos from their coach as the
regular season approaches are Val Boucher and
Taysia Boyson. Theyve been playing great for us,
indicated Walker.
Golf
Senior Austin Baker has the stronghold on the
number-one slot this season as the Cougars hit their
home fairways at Passaconaway CC in Litcheld.
Coach Jeff ODonnells golfers posted an impressive
17-5 record last year in D-3 action and nished fth
at the state tournament. We look to do better than
that, offered the second-year coach, who added,
We (also) look to defend our title at the Inter-Lakes
Golf Tournament, a tune-up tournament one
week before the states.
Adding to Campbells returning lineup will be
Tyler Butler, Ryan Glendye, Justin DiBenidetto,
Jeremy Wirbal, Trevor Roche and Cole Ryan. A pair
of freshman upstarts hopes to swing their way into
the top-ve scorers as Colin Tanguay and James
Cardello tee-it-up for the rst time at the varsity
level.
